In Chen Xu's ward in the hospital, Dong Siqing was still holding onto Mrs. Dong's hand and chattering non-stop. They looked even more intimate than before she was injured, but the woman didn't think there was anything unusual and just thought it was just a way of acting coquettishly after surviving a disaster.
"Madam, the doctor wants to take the young master for a physical examination." The bodyguard knocked on the door politely and respectfully asked Madam Dong for instructions.
Glancing at the still unconscious Chen Xu, Dong Siqing tugged at the woman's clothes and said pitifully, "Mom, I want to be with my brother. After all, it was because of protecting me that he got such a serious head injury."
The girl was not wrong. When the rocks rolled down, Chen Xu subconsciously rushed towards Dong Siqing. However, due to the restraint of the safety belt, the girl was not actually protected. But these were not that important.
Mrs. Dong looked at Dong Siqing with tears in her eyes and said nothing; she just raised her hand and gently touched the girl's head, which was a great comfort to her.
"Mrs. Dong, we're going to take the patient for a checkup first. Do you want to come with us?"
The doctor's question interrupted the mother and daughter who were still communicating with each other. Mrs. Dong heard the sound and looked over, then asked the bodyguard to push the wheelchair and take the girl along.
Dong Siqing stared at the man on the hospital bed without saying a word, but her absent-minded eyes showed that he must have other thoughts at the moment; it was not until she was stopped outside the examination room that she came back to her senses.
The heavy iron door of the examination room was closed, completely blocking everyone's sight; Jiang Linghao, Jiang Shuyan and Axing came out from a small door and looked at Chen Xu on the bed with mixed feelings.
Ah Xing used acupuncture to wake up the sleeping man as he did several times before. As his eyes slowly opened, Chen Xu slowly turned his head towards the three people with different expressions. When he saw the notebook in Jiang Linghao's hand, he instantly understood why he didn't see Jiang Luoning this time.
"What do you want to ask?"
Chen Xu's face was calm, but he was actually tormented. The notebook Jiang Linghao was holding was the one he had given to Jiang Luoning and Fu Linxiao in the cafe. It contained detailed records of his fragmented memories of his past life.
"I want to hear you say it."
Jiang Linghao was not as angry as Chen Xu had imagined, and his tone was very calm, which was something Chen Xu had not expected.
"I know you don't believe me. But I really just want to make up for the mistakes I made in my previous life. That notebook only wrote down the things I remembered before. After I came back, I remembered many things I haven't told them yet. The kidnapping when I was twelve was not done by me. I just happened to discover Helian Rui's existence in secret and caught him poisoning my adoptive father. It was because of this that I caused the adoptive father who truly cared about me and loved me to be bedridden from now on. I was also implicated and became his tool for revenge. I say this not to deny everything I have done. Helian Rui is also an enemy to me, an enemy who took away my freedom, life, and even my soul."
After Chen Xu said the last sentence, he closed his eyes resignedly as if waiting for the verdict of several people. He understood the importance of Jiang Luoning to the three of them. It was natural for him to be cut into pieces for the harm he had caused to the little girl or the Jiang family in his previous life.
"Chen Xu, the reason we hate you now is because of Ningning, and the reason we accept you is also because of Ningning. Since she can let go of the past and choose to trust you, we are willing to believe her too. However, if you really do something to betray her in the future, I don't mind settling the score with you in this and past lives."
Jiang Linghao's words were sonorous and powerful, not in a negotiating tone at all. They sounded like an order or a notice, but in the final analysis, they were warning the man.
At this moment, everyone was very calm, without any emotions. Because they were afraid that if it lasted too long, the Dong family mother and daughter outside would become suspicious, this seemingly questioning conversation ended hastily.
What no one expected was that when they pushed the unconscious Chen Xu back to the ward, Helian Rui, who had not been seen for a long time, was sitting calmly on the sofa. The sudden visit made Mrs. Dong tighten her hands as she pushed the wheelchair, but Dong Siqing did not notice it. Looking at the strange man on the sofa, she was very confused.
"Mom, is this your friend?" Dong Siqing smiled and showed a harmless expression.
Helian Rui looked up at the girl, his eyes expressing deep love.
"Siqing, I am your mother's adoptive father, you can just call me grandpa!" Before Mrs. Dong could explain, Helian Rui strode behind the girl, took over the armrest of the wheelchair, and slowly pushed it forward. The tenderness between his eyebrows was very obvious. Even Dong Siqing noticed the special doting in the man's words towards her.
Mrs. Dong was still stunned. Dong Siqing saw that her mother didn't respond. For a moment, she didn't dare to confirm the identity of this strange man. She waited until the doctors and nurses had completely settled Chen Xu and everyone had left before she cautiously asked, "Mom, can I call him Grandpa?"
Meeting Dong Siqing's meaningful gaze, Mrs. Dong showed a gratified expression and nodded slightly, accepting the title. But what the girl didn't know was that at this moment her mother's mind was filled with voices speaking up for Chen Xu. Mrs. Dong never understood why Helian Rui treated Chen Zirong's children so differently. In his eyes, Chen Xu was always a tool for revenge over the years, and even though he had never met Dong Siqing, she was always on his mind.
After getting her mother's permission, Dong Siqing's eyes flashed with a strange light. She raised her head and sweetly called out "Grandpa" to the man pushing the wheelchair.
Helian Rui was completely comforted by this address. He gently touched the top of the girl's head, with an expression as if he was looking through her at some heirloom treasure, which was both burning and greedy. This made Mrs. Dong and Dong Siqing feel a little confused for a moment.
"Siqing, your mother and I have something to discuss. Can you just wait here for grandpa?"
The expression was still loving, without any concealment, and the tone was as gentle as coaxing a child. Although it was not very comfortable, Dong Siqing still wanted to maintain her current well-behaved personality and nodded in agreement.
