Their equally cold gazes met, but Qi's eyes were a few degrees more intense than hers.
You Shuyao froze, first puzzled, then shocked to discover that a subtle undercurrent of emotion was surging in his flickering eyes. She gasped, then suddenly realized…
How could this be? I simply can't believe it. Qi's feelings for her... how could this be?
He stared intently into her eyes, taking in all the astonishment, shock, panic, and helplessness on her face. But there was no shame in her eyes; instead, she stared at him as if she had seen a ghost.
It would be a lie to say he wasn't disappointed; his eyes darkened. But it didn't matter; feelings could be cultivated slowly, so there was plenty of time and no need to rush.
Before she could struggle violently, he released her, not giving her a chance to push him away first. Before leaving, he left her with a warning.
"Stay in the house and don't have any improper thoughts, and don't force me to use extreme measures to trap you."
*** ***
The next few days felt like an eternity.
You Shuyao was locked inside the room, unable to move an inch, and was also strictly guarded outside.
She was constantly thinking about Huo Jingsha, wondering how he was doing and how the organization would deal with him. The last time she saw him, he was covered in bruises and welts. She didn't know what they were trying to extract from him, but she knew Huo Jingsha's temperament well. No matter how severely he was tortured, he would never utter a word if he didn't want to talk.
Thinking about it this way, will I be tortured to death by them?
But that didn't make sense! She guessed that Qi had captured him but didn't kill him immediately, probably because he had other plans. Having figured this out, she tried to escape, but all her attempts failed. She couldn't save Huo Jingsha, nor could she save herself, leaving her so dejected that she spent every night crying.
Therefore, she was restless during the day and suffered from severe insomnia at night. Even when she fell asleep from exhaustion, she was plagued by nightmares. She dreamt that Huo Jingsha once again looked at her with those chilling eyes and said to her, "Traitor, die!" Then he raised the large knife in his hand and chopped off her neck, making her head roll several times on the ground.
Shu Yao suddenly sat up in shock from her dream, her forehead and body covered in cold sweat. She then spent the rest of the night without sleep, only able to sit on the bed, silently staring blankly. The heartbreaking feeling from her dream lingered for a long time, almost suffocating her.
Even if Huo Jingsha were still alive, she would probably be living a life worse than death. Thinking of this, she wept uncontrollably in the dark, lightless night.
On this dark night, the door was quietly pushed open, and a figure silently appeared in front of You Shuyao, his eyes, which gleamed in the night, staring straight at her.
The man stared at her tear-streaked face, her swollen eyes, and her red nose. Even in her sleep, her brows were furrowed with anxiety, and her curled-up body looked like an abandoned little animal, so pitiful.
The shadowy figure remained silent for a moment, then finally sighed, stretched out a large hand, and gently wiped away her undried tears with its fingertips.
The movement seemed to wake her up. You Shuyao suddenly opened her misty eyes and saw a figure squatting in front of the bed. She was immediately frightened and shrank back. But after gradually seeing the person's face clearly, she was stunned.
The man standing in front of the bed was Huo Jingsha. He slowly bent down and placed his hands on either side of her head, like a beast closing in, trapping its prey firmly in a cage. His gaze was aggressive and gleaming with cold light.
His dark eyes scrutinized her face, sharper and more piercing than usual. His approaching aura carried a strong stench of blood, as if he had just returned from a brutal battle.
Huo Jingsha curled a finger, wiped away the tears from the corner of her eye, moved it to her lips, and licked them with her tongue...
Salty and bitter, these really are tears, her tears!
"Why are you crying?" His voice was hoarse, sounding particularly alluring in the darkness.
You Shuyao stared at him blankly, as if trying to see into his soul. She could hardly believe her eyes and was unable to come back to her senses for a long time.
He was clearly imprisoned in that secret room, his limbs chained, yet he suddenly appeared out of nowhere before her. She had just been having nightmares about him; could it be… that the nightmare was about to come true? She was starting to lose track of reality. Looking down, she realized he wasn't carrying the large knife that had severed her head.
"Speak." He commanded, each word distinct, as if his patience had run out, or perhaps he was deeply dissatisfied with her silence.
Are you real... or are you dreaming?
Huo Jingsheng was taken aback for a moment, then grinned wickedly. "Why don't you just touch it yourself and see? Or do you want me to bite you?"
"I'll choose the former," she thought, her hand trembling as she reached out and carefully touched his face.
Hmm! The skin is warm, and the stubble on my chin feels prickly... It feels so real, not like a dream at all.
"The adult escaped?" She opened her mouth wide in surprise. How could this be? How did he do it?
"What? Do you really want me dead?" His eyes were threatening, and his voice was as cold as a vengeful ghost.
Her answer... was two large tears, which then fell one after another, pattering down her face. She just stared at him with her eyes open, crying like an innocent child.
She didn't defend herself, nor could she defend herself. If he wanted to kill her, then she would accept it!
Huo Jingsha was furious. He had imagined how she might react when they met, whether it would be a confrontation or a fierce glare. But he never expected her to stare at him blankly and shed tears, without uttering a single word of protest or explanation.
Her appearance inexplicably vented his anger that had been building up for days, while the seemingly endless tears softened his heart.
