Chapter 8: A Hidden Accomplice

The servants, including Granny Wang, spent a lot of time with Shu Yao and knew she wasn't someone to be trifled with. Otherwise, the lecherous Steward Sun wouldn't have always been unable to handle her, ultimately suffering broken limbs and being thrown into the dungeon, losing his future and possibly even his life. In her opinion, Shu Yao seemed destined for good fortune; judging from the master's attentive care, he must have feelings for her.

You Shuyao suddenly realized... Yes! Huo Jingsha is a person who rewards and punishes fairly. She saved him, and even if she was disrespectful in many ways, he would not punish her at this time. Otherwise, wouldn't he be slapping himself in the face in front of everyone?

So that's how it is... After figuring it out, You Shuyao breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed back onto the soft bed. Then, remembering that she was only wearing a bodice, she asked Granny Wang if she had any clothes.

Granny Wang brought her a fine silk undergarment, which she immediately put on before finally lying down to rest.

Different choices and different actions indeed led to different destinies. You Shuyao gained more confidence and became even more determined to please Huo Jingsha. Past painful lessons had shown her that being his enemy would bring no benefit; only by gaining his favor could she escape alive.

She remained in a daze throughout the day, resting peacefully in her room to recover from her injuries. It was a rare treat to have a few days of leisure. In fact, it was quite comfortable not having to serve others. It also gave her some time to think about what path to take in the future.

She slept too much during the day, so naturally she couldn't sleep at night; she lay on the bed like a pancake. Sigh… lying down for too long really did cause back and waist pain. She decided to get up and sit up on the bed, thinking… why not meditate and practice internal energy? It might help her body recover faster.

But he had only been sitting cross-legged and holding his breath for a short while when he immediately sensed something was wrong around him and was startled.

Besides her, there was another person's presence in the room.

When You Shuyao opened her eyes, she saw a man dressed in black and with his face covered standing in front of her bed. She froze instantly and could only stare at him warily.

“Watching the sea and the clouds fall.” As soon as the masked man spoke, You Shuyao immediately understood.

"The mountains are verdant, reflecting the sky." She gazed at him, calmly continuing with the next line.

These two sentences are a secret code, hinting at the organization's geographical location, which only comrades can know.

"The leader is asking how the task he asked you to do is progressing?"

“A few days ago, another assassin appeared in the manor and was brutally killed by Huo Jingsha. He is very vigilant now, and I have no chance to make a move.”

She had already come up with this plausible excuse. It was true that there was an assassin, and anyone in the manor could find out by asking them. Fortunately, Cuiwei came out to carry out the assassination, which not only bought time for the organization but also avoided Huo Jingsha's suspicion.

There were no lamps in the room, only the dim moonlight. Apart from his eyes, half of the face of the person a few steps away was hidden behind a black cloth. You Shuyao could not see his appearance at all, but she could vaguely see that his eyes were unusually sharp and bright, like a hungry wolf lurking in the dark.

I understand now. This man is the second assassin sent by the organization to assist her in completing her mission, and also to monitor her. She has been infiltrating the Huo family for half a year, and this man has only shown himself now. He's very well hidden and very composed. I just wonder... does he know that she saved Huo Jingsha during the day?

Why save him?

Thump—You Shuyao felt as if she had been hit by a heavy hammer. He really knew!

Instead of answering, she asked, "Did you put the poisonous scorpion there?"

The other party remained silent, clearly acknowledging her statement. She then understood the situation and deliberately feigned anger as she questioned them…

“I don’t object to you poisoning him, but why not do it when he’s alone? With me there, if he gets stung by a scorpion, he’ll definitely suspect me first. Knowing Huo Jingsha as I do, he’s the kind of person who would rather kill a thousand innocent people than let one guilty person go free. Are you trying to kill me? If I hadn’t reacted quickly, I would be the one pinned to the wall by the hidden weapon he shot.”

The masked man scoffed disdainfully, "If he is stung, the poison will take effect in no time, and I will come out to fight him. You only need to leave. How can you say he will kill you?"

You Shuyao had a look of sudden realization, but her tone was even angrier than before: "Did I know you were lying in ambush nearby? I didn't even know I had any companions in the manor. If you had informed me beforehand, why would I have gone to all this trouble and just helped you kill him?"

Her anger stemmed from deep regret over the missed opportunity; she seemed to blame herself as well as him, for such a golden chance had slipped through her fingers. There was also a profound sense of regret, as if the fault lay more with him. Had he informed her beforehand, the plan would surely have succeeded.

The masked man stared at her, taking in her frustrated expression and pale, weak face. After a moment of silence, he said with a sigh, "Never mind, there will be other opportunities." He then took something from his waist and offered it to her. "Eat it!"

You Shuyao looked at the black sphere in his palm and asked in surprise...

"What is that?"

"The scorpions were raised on Miao poison; this is the antidote."

You Shuyao's eyes lit up again. Although Huo Jingsha had used his internal energy to expel the poison from her, it would be best for her to take the antidote if she wanted to recover as soon as possible. This would ensure that nothing went wrong and prevent any lingering health problems, since the power of Miao poison was no small matter.

Without hesitation, she reached for the pill, swallowed it easily, and soon felt a warm sensation rolling around in her abdomen. In no time, she felt her meridians open up, and she felt extremely relaxed and comfortable.

You Shuyao looked up at him and asked, "What is your name?"

“契, the 契 of contract.”

"Hmph! It's definitely fake," she thought to herself, but didn't pursue the matter further.

"How can I contact you if I need you in the future?"

"During the day, you can hang a lantern on the far corner of the corridor, and at night, you can light a candle on the west windowsill. When I see it, I will naturally come to find you."

"Hmm! The meaning is clear: he won't reveal where he's hiding in the mansion, but he will remain hidden there. Alright!" You Shuyao pursed her lips and said calmly, "I understand."

The masked man nodded and didn't linger any longer. With a flash, he disappeared into the darkness, appearing and disappearing without a trace, like a gust of wind. You Shuyao sighed inwardly, "His lightness skill is truly remarkable!"

Relieved, he slumped down, but then felt uneasy. He got out of bed and went to the window to examine it carefully. Only after confirming that there were no footprints on the window frame did he feel completely at ease. He then returned to the bedside and lay down to ponder deeply...

She anticipated everything step by step; the organization really did send people to monitor her. In other words, she had to be extremely careful with every move she made from now on.

Alas! We're truly caught between a rock and a hard place. Not only do we have to deal with Huo Jingsha, but now we also have to be wary of someone surnamed Qi!
