Shang Hanwen looked at the complete set of review practice papers in his hand and almost dropped his jaw in astonishment.
He was truly grateful to whoever sent him the gift and the exam papers.
"Third Aunt, you've really gone to a lot of trouble." Shang Ganwen's smile was rather stiff.
Su Xiao's eyes brightened slightly, and she said seriously, "Yes, it did take some effort. I searched several libraries before finding suitable practice sheets. You can do these for now, and I'll buy you more next time if you need them."
"Hahaha..." Liu Yun and Cui Hui burst into laughter, which was quite unkind of them.
Upon seeing it, Shang Huaiguo's eyes lit up slightly, full of praise. "Xiaoxiao, not bad. You chose a very good gift; it shows thoughtfulness. Very nice."
"Xiaoxiao, you're so thoughtful." Shan Zhishu's eyes shone with joy; this little daughter-in-law had won her heart.
"Hanwen, Ganwen, hurry up and thank your third aunt."
"Thank you, Auntie." The two children spoke with difficulty, their voices low.
"You're welcome. Also, just call me Aunt Su." Su Xiao felt that the titles of Third Aunt and Third Sister-in-law were not appropriate to use right now.
The two children and the elders in the living room exchanged glances and readily said, "Thank you, Aunt Su."
Su Xiao nodded in satisfaction, then pushed the last two gifts to her two sisters-in-law. "These are for my eldest and second brothers. My eldest brother works in an office job and sits at his desk a lot, which makes him prone to cervical spondylosis. This is a plaster I made myself; it works very well. My second brother is in the military and is prone to bumps and bruises, so this is a medicinal wine specifically for treating sprains and bruises. It's better to have it on hand."
Liu Yun and Cui Hui exchanged a glance, both of them somewhat surprised.
On the surface, however, she calmly thanked Su Xiao on behalf of her man.
Shang Ziming read it from beginning to end, and he really didn't know that this was the gift Su Xiao had prepared.
Apart from those two sets of test papers, all the others were made by Su Xiao himself, showing his sincerity.
Shan Zhishu and the others all knew that Su Xiao had studied medicine under Hua Shancheng. They had heard of her medical skills and knew that she had obtained her medical license at a young age, which meant that her expertise in traditional Chinese medicine was well-deserved.
Therefore, he cherished everything she gave him, knowing they were all good things.
"I won't say thank you too much. I'll go to the kitchen and cook some more hearty dishes to treat you well." Liu Yun happily left with the gifts she and her husband had brought.
Cui Hui followed suit, not to be outdone, "Xiaoxiao, please sit down. The food will be ready soon."
"Come, come, Xiaoxiao, sit down, let's have a good talk." Shan Zhishu pulled Su Xiao's hand and held it tightly, as if she loved it dearly.
Watching her two sisters-in-law leave, Su Xiao said somewhat embarrassedly, "I'll go help out in the kitchen; I'm a very good cook too."
"Really? Your auntie really wants to try your cooking. But let's skip it today. How can you cook on your first visit? If word gets out, people will gossip about you." Shan Zhishu patted Su Xiao's hand, full of anticipation. "Xiao Xiao, you know about Xiao Mu's situation. In the future, if he does anything wrong, just come to our house and complain. We'll help you deal with him."
Su Xiao looked up at Shang Ziming's direction.
Shang Ziming leaned back lazily on the sofa, looking at her with a relaxed smile. When she looked over, he said innocently, "Why are you looking at me? Ever since you came into the family, Mom and Dad only have eyes for you and no one else. Listen to what they say, how could I dare to treat you badly?"
Su Xiao raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? You dare to treat me badly without your uncle and aunt watching over you?"
Shang Ziming's brow twitched, realizing something was wrong. He quickly denied it and tried to appease her, saying, "What are you talking about? My heart for you is as clear as day and night. Don't misunderstand me."
Su Xiao pouted and said arrogantly, "I'll see how you perform. If you don't perform well, don't blame me for giving you a red card and kicking you out."
"Wife, please have mercy." Upon hearing this, Shang Ziming immediately sat up straight, clasped his hands in a fist and begged for mercy.
Su Xiao arrogantly tossed her head, only to meet Shan Zhishu's overly bright gaze. She lowered her eyes in embarrassment.
The back-and-forth between the two made Shan Zhishu's eyes sparkle with curiosity.
Wow, this is so sweet...
Su Xiao had gotten used to arguing with him lately, and now she just blurted things out without thinking. Now she's made a fool of herself.
There's no going back in life; what needs to be faced must be faced.
"Oh, don't be shy, we're all family, please do as you please, just pretend we don't exist." Shan Zhishu's words were so obviously trying to hide something, making Su Xiao's face even hotter.
The atmosphere in the living room was just right when suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Everyone's eyes turned to the gate.
Shang Ziming stood up on his own initiative. "I'll go see who's here."
When Shang Ziming went outside, he saw an older woman standing with a little girl outside the courtyard gate.
Upon seeing Shang Zimu come out, the aunt's eyes lit up, and she called out, "Shang Zimu, the third son, open the door quickly."
Shang Ziming raised an eyebrow. He knew this person; the old lady next door, the political commissar, was particularly fond of matchmaking. Her character was a mixed bag, depending on how she viewed people and situations.
"Auntie, what's wrong?" Shang Ziming stepped forward, approached the courtyard gate, but did not open it. Instead, he stood at the gate and asked what was going on.
When the political commissar's wife saw that he had no intention of opening the door, she became unhappy. "Hey, why don't you open the door quickly? Are you not welcome in your house? Is your mother home? Let her come and see me."
Shang Zimu frowned. He could easily control the enemies on the battlefield and his soldiers, but he was helpless against unreasonable women.
Seeing Shang Ziming remain silent, the political commissar's effeminate nature came out, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Shang Ziming, are you there? Shang Ziming."
In the living room, Shan Zhishu frowned slightly upon hearing the voice, then smiled at Su Xiao, "They called me, they probably have something to say, I'll go out and see."
“Okay, Auntie, go ahead.” Su Xiao smiled.
Hearing the shouts outside, Shan Zhishu quickened his pace and went out. When he saw the political commissar's wife and the girl beside her, his head throbbed with fear. He knew something bad was about to happen, so he quickly put on a smiling face. "Sister Zhang, it's you. I'm sorry, we have guests at home and can't entertain you. Let's reschedule for another day."
As Shan Zhishu spoke, he opened the courtyard gate but didn't let the other person in. He went out himself and gestured for Shang Ziming to close the gate, indicating that these two couldn't be allowed in today.
The political commissar's wife looked at her suspiciously, "Who is she? Such a grand entrance, why aren't you entertaining other guests?"
Shan Zhishu looked at her with some embarrassment and apologized, "It's not convenient to talk about things at home right now. How about we go to Manfulou for tea another day and chat at our leisure?"
The political commissar's wife looked at the shop's door again, but couldn't figure it out. She reluctantly agreed, "Alright then, tomorrow it is. It's not easy for my niece to come all this way."
Shan Zhishu glanced at the girl next to the political commissar's wife, smiled apologetically, and said, "Okay, then tomorrow."
