Chapter 220 Digging Bamboo Shoots After the Rain
Su Xiao was very fortunate that Zhao Xi was a decent person. Although he had some ulterior motives, he ultimately prioritized the overall situation and knew right from wrong.
Once outside the Zhao family's house, Su Xiao finally breathed a sigh of relief, and her steps became lighter as she walked home.
After Su Xiao left, Zhao Xi immediately sent his son to run errands and call several village officials to a meeting that very night.
The next morning, before starting work, Zhao Xi held up a loudspeaker and began a political education meeting.
At this point, the gossip in the village was put to rest, and at least no one dared to speak ill of Huang Feiyan anymore. However, perhaps it was also because she was now spending all her time with Su Xiao and didn't have many opportunities to be alone with the villagers.
Huang Feiyan is a lively and straightforward person, and she is also Su Xiao's best friend. She used to often come to the farm with Su Xiao. Old Man Hua and Sweetie were quite happy to have her come to the farm. As for Tian Sheng, his opinion was not important.
After Old Man Gong and the others left, Tian Sheng became increasingly silent, working quietly all day long.
As spring arrives and flowers bloom, wild vegetables on the mountain begin to sprout.
Especially after two consecutive days of rain, today the sky is clear and the air is crisp.
"Sweetie, Little one, hurry up." Huang Feiyan had completely regained her usual optimism and cheerfulness.
"Here comes Sister Yanzi." Sweetie followed behind her, carrying a basket on her back and a small hoe in her hand, hopping and skipping.
Su Xiao smiled as she watched the two figures walking away happily.
She also carried a basket on her back and held a wood-chopping knife in her hand to bring up the rear.
"Be careful and come back soon," the old man reminded him again, still worried.
"Understood, Master. We won't go deep into the mountains, don't worry." Su Xiao waved to him. Today they wouldn't go deep into the mountains, but only to dig bamboo shoots in the bamboo forest at the foot of the mountain.
After the spring rains, bamboo shoots sprout, and now is the perfect time to dig them up.
Because it had rained the night before, some of the mountain paths were still muddy. Su Xiao walked along, worried about the two people in front of her. "Yanzi, Tianniu, watch your step and walk slowly."
"Understood," they both said in unison.
Soon we reached the foot of the mountain, where there was a small bamboo grove. Now the grove was densely covered with tiny bamboo shoots, which looked very pleasing.
"Hurry up and dig, someone might be coming soon."
At Su Xiao's command, the three immediately began to fight.
There is a small bamboo grove at the foot of the mountain, which is no secret in Xiaheshan Village. In previous years, the women of the village would come together to dig bamboo.
Sure enough, just as they were digging with great enthusiasm, they heard a group of women chattering over.
"Oh, I thought we were already early, but I didn't expect there were others who were even earlier than us." Several aunties and grandmas laughed as they entered the small bamboo grove, making it even more crowded and lively.
"Auntie, there are plenty of bamboo shoots this year. Hurry up and dig them up; they'll make a nice side dish when we get home," Su Xiao greeted them with a smile.
“Yes, that’s right,” the old woman chuckled in agreement.
With so many people arriving all at once, everyone's hands moved a little faster, since there were only so many bamboo shoots available.
Su Xiao and her friends arrived early, and soon their baskets were full. They decided to go straight home.
I originally wanted to come a second time, but seeing the attitude of that group of old ladies, I decided to give up.
The bamboo shoots in the three baskets had been peeled and shrunk by more than half.
Su Xiao kept some fresh ones to stir-fry for lunch, and rinsed the rest, then laid them out on a bamboo mat to dry, to eat slowly later.
Looking into the distance, more and more people were coming to dig bamboo shoots, and Su Xiao secretly decided to go a little earlier tomorrow.
