Chapter 189, /.

Su Xiao walked home with light steps, humming a little tune, bathed in the afterglow of the setting sun, and suddenly felt a sense of peace and tranquility.

"Are you having a great time today?" Shang Ziming sensed her joy and couldn't help but smile.

"Hmm." Su Xiao nodded, shook their clasped hands, and asked suspiciously, "Are you unhappy?"

"Of course I'm very happy too," Shang Ziming blurted out, afraid that if he was a little slow, she would overthink it.

"That's more like it," Su Xiao said reproachfully, then, remembering that he had disappeared for more than half a year, she couldn't help but ask, "How long will you be staying this time?"

Shang Ziming was slightly taken aback, a hint of apology flashing in his eyes. He said cautiously, "I'm back to report on my work. My schedule afterward depends on the organization's arrangements. I'm sorry I can't spend more time with you."

Su Xiao couldn't quite describe her feelings after hearing this; she was somewhat disappointed, but ultimately she let it go.

Since she chose him in the first place, she was prepared for a long-distance relationship.

Besides, she wasn't a parasitic plant that needed to cling to a man to survive.

She's very busy herself, so that's good.

A few thoughts flashed through her mind in an instant, and Su Xiao smiled and said, "You don't need to apologize. I knew this day would come the day I agreed to your request, and I was prepared for it long ago."

Hearing the little girl's words, Shang Ziming felt a pang of sadness in his heart. "I'm sorry."

Even with a thousand words to say, in the end, they can only be expressed in this soft sigh.

As a soldier, he engraved his responsibilities in his heart from the day he enlisted. Along the way, he believed he had lived up to the uniform he wore. He believed that the country comes before the family, and he would always keep his mission in mind and never slacken.

However, he still felt guilty towards her, and secretly vowed in his heart to do his best to give her the best.

Before they knew it, the two had arrived home.

Su Xiao stopped and let go of his hand.

Shang Ziming, however, held her hand tightly, refusing to let go.

"I'm home." Seeing that he wouldn't let go, Su Xiao hesitated and said, "Would you like to come in and sit for a while?"

Although Shang Ziming really wanted to, he had other things to do and could only say regretfully, "Not today, tomorrow..."

He paused slightly, unsure if he'd be free tomorrow, and after considering it carefully, said, "...I'll come see you as soon as I have some free time."

Su Xiao wasn't disappointed this time, because she had expected it.

"Okay, I'll wait for you." Su Xiao waved her hand again, indicating that he could let go. "Go back now."

The large hand released its grip, and Su Xiao's small hand hung down as if it were soft and boneless.

Shang Ziming's brow twitched, and he pulled her hand up again. He didn't like the feeling he had just experienced, as if letting go of her hand meant losing everything.

"Alright, stop being so affectionate, let's go." Su Xiao thought he was reluctant to leave, so she quickly withdrew her hand and pushed him.

Shang Zimu sighed, thinking, "This girl, really, doesn't she miss him at all?"

"Okay, I'm leaving then. You go in first." Shang Ziming stopped being so affectionate and gestured for her to go in first.

Seeing his posture, Su Xiao knew he was stubborn, so she didn't argue. She waved her hand, turned around and went in, closing the door in one smooth motion.

Shang Ziming watched her actions, chuckled, and then turned and left.

However, after taking only a few steps, she heard the creaking sound of a door opening behind her. Turning around, she saw a small head peeking out from the crack in the door. The little girl turned her big, dark eyes, revealing shallow dimples, and said, "I'll just take a look. You can go now."

Before he could answer, she shrank back into her little head.
