Jin Yan had known for a long time that he was not a child of the Jin family. After all, he had been beaten by his stepfather since he was a child, and his stepfather would not hide it from him.
He disliked the name Gu Zhiguo and preferred to be Jin Yan.
Knowing faults? Ha... whose faults are we really knowing?
He didn't understand why his mother had given him this name. She protested repeatedly, telling him not to call him Zhiguo, that his name was Jinyan, and that he would only be Jinyan.
"It's good that you're back." Su Xiao didn't show any other expression after hearing what he had to say, which made Jin Yan take a few more glances at her.
Su Xiao smiled slightly, "Your mother went to a lot of trouble for you, it's good that you came back safely."
"Is that so?" Jin Yan looked at Qin Huifang's room, his eyes unfathomable.
He finally saw his biological father today, and also went to the Gu family home to see his grandfather.
His grandfather wanted him to join the army, but he was still considering it. What would happen to his younger sister and mother if he left? But if he didn't go, he really couldn't bear to give up this opportunity. He was already seventeen; he knew what was good for him.
"My mom said you have a way to cure her leg?" Jin Yan looked at him expectantly.
Su Xiao was surprised and raised an eyebrow, saying, "You overestimate me. I'm not good enough. You can take her to a proper hospital for a checkup."
Jin Yan seemed surprised by her blunt denial and remained silent for a moment.
Upon seeing this, Su Xiao quickly said goodbye and went home.
The next day, a car stopped in front of the Jin family's house. Su Xiao saw Gu Tingjiang get out of the car and enter the Jin family's courtyard as she went out.
Huang Feiyan brought gossip as soon as she got home after a busy day.
"Small news, big news! Jinling's brother has left to join the army." Huang Feiyan had a look on her face that said, "You should ask me now."
"What's going on?" Su Xiao readily complied.
Huang Feiyan glanced at the courtyard gate to make sure no one was there before saying, "You know, right? Jin Ling and her brother are half-brothers, sharing the same mother but different fathers."
"Yes, I know that." Su Xiao nodded.
"Today, Jin Yan's biological father came. He had quite the airs, and he looked very refined. However, he was very fierce towards Jin Yan." Huang Feiyan vividly recounted the tense scene when the two met.
“His own father said there’s only one chance.” Huang Feiyan still shudders when she recalls the man’s cold look.
"Jin Yan went?" Su Xiao guessed.
"Hmm." Huang Feiyan continued, "Jin Yan was initially resistant, but in the end, his mother spoke up and told him to go, or she would disown him as her son. Tsk tsk..."
"Hmm." Su Xiao nodded, just as she had predicted. Jin Yan hadn't received a proper education, so finding a job was difficult, especially since there were far more job openings than available positions.
"Joining the army is indeed a good way out for him," Su Xiao said frankly, then, thinking of Qin Huifang, asked, "And what about his mother? What were the arrangements?"
"Jin Ling said the Gu family hired a part-time housekeeper, but I don't know if she can take good care of Jin Ling's mother," Huang Feiyan said with some concern. "Jin Yan's father looks like someone you don't want to mess with. How could Jin Yan's mother have fallen for him? And why did she remarry?"
Huang Feiyan, her gossipy nature aroused and finding no one to ask, couldn't help but let her imagination run wild and started making things up: "Could it be that the man cheated on me? Is there a third party involved?"
"Don't guess wildly." Su Xiao stopped her wild imagination. Actually, she wanted to tell her that she was almost right, but she had guessed the wrong person.
