Chapter 182, in comparison
Grandma Hua watched as the snakeskin bag was dragged back and forth, and her lips twitched several times involuntarily.
He secretly thought to himself, "If the old man knew that the hard work he cherished all his life was being treated like this by his apprentice, he'd probably be furious."
Su Xiao was just putting on an act; she had already moved the entire cabinet of books into her spatial storage.
With Grandpa Hua's connection, Grandma Hua's attitude towards Su Xiao changed again, and she became even closer to him.
Grandma Hua tried to give the bracelet to Su Xiao again, but Su Xiao refused again.
"Grandma, I'll keep my master's book for Xiaoming to get married."
"Shouldn't you call me 'Master's Wife'? The hierarchy can't be messed up," Grandma Hua suddenly said.
"Uh...yes, Master's wife." Su Xiao looked at the old lady with gray hair in front of her, touched her nose, and felt as if she had suddenly been promoted in seniority.
Seeing that Su Xiaozhen was unwilling to accept it, Grandma Hua had no choice but to give up.
Now that the relationship was clear, Su Xiao stopped hiding anything and filled the Hua family's kitchen within a few days, cooking and eating all three meals a day at the Hua family's house.
Grandma Hua only injured her ankle. Su Xiao bought her a pair of crutches, and with some care, she was able to go out and walk around and get some sun.
Sitting on the steps, looking at the bustling courtyard, a smile appeared on her face, which had been filled with worry for many years.
Su Xiao knew that she had hope.
Whenever she had free time, she would pull Su Xiao aside to tell her stories about going to the countryside, actually just wanting to find out more about Grandpa Hua.
The lively atmosphere at the Hua family's house left the two elderly members of the Su family next door feeling quite uneasy.
When Grandma Hua came back that day, Grandpa Su also saw it. He was very surprised to see his granddaughter bringing the other party back.
After a moment's thought, an uncertain idea formed in her mind: was she busy every day taking care of someone else's old lady?
Grandpa Su sat in the courtyard, smoking his pipe, his brow furrowed and his face full of worry.
When Su Xiao came in carrying the snakeskin bag, he couldn't help but ask, "Xiao Xiao, have you been taking care of the old woman next door these past few days?"
Su Xiaowei paused for a moment, then nodded. "Yes."
"Do you know that her family has a problematic social class background? How can you associate with her family?" Grandpa Su stood up agitatedly, shouting in a low voice, afraid that others would hear, yet unable to contain his emotions.
Looking at the elderly woman who was trembling with excitement, Su Xiao comforted her, "Don't worry, everything will be alright. We've been neighbors for over ten years. Although something happened to her family, it didn't affect them. We usually lend a hand to our neighbors when they're in trouble. It's nothing serious."
"What do you mean it's no big deal? What if something happens? You're not allowed to go again, don't drag your family down with you." Grandpa Su was unusually stern, giving his order in a firm tone.
"Grandpa, you're overthinking it." Su Xiao simply replied to his stubbornness, picked up the bag, and went back to her room.
"You." Grandpa Su was somewhat incredulous at Su Xiao's actions.
After that, Su Xiao went back and forth several more times, treating Grandpa Su as if he were invisible.
She knew she couldn't reason with Grandpa Su, so there was no point in wasting her breath.
Finally, Su Xiao simply cooked and ate at the Hua family's house.
Grandpa Su, hunched over, stood in the courtyard, looking in the direction of the Hua family's house, sighing heavily.
"Old man, don't worry about her." Grandma Su was also somewhat disheartened and tried to persuade Grandpa Su.
Grandpa Su thought to himself, "How could he possibly manage this? He's just worrying for nothing."
The elderly couple could only sigh.
