Since things had come to this point, Su Xiao didn't stand on ceremony and nodded in agreement, "Then I'll thank you both for your hospitality."
She was really hungry.
One should not speak while eating or sleeping, especially since the group was not familiar with each other to begin with. For a while, the only sounds at the table were the clinking of bowls and chopsticks.
Su Xiao ate quite well; the meal she shamelessly mooched was actually quite delicious.
After lunch, the group went to the main room, where Gu Yi served them tea.
It's not good to leave right after you've eaten; you should always take a break.
Grandpa Gu chatted with Gu Tingjiang, saying a few words here and there.
Su Xiao listened openly and honestly.
"That woman has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. When you see her later, be careful not to fall for her tricks again."
Gu Tingjiang seemed to have been hit where it hurt, and nodded in understanding, "I know."
"I must find out from her where she sent the child back then. Sigh..." Thinking of his poor granddaughter, Grandpa Gu's expression fell a little.
"I will." Gu Tingjiang narrowed his eyes, concealing the turbulent emotions within them. He would not let her go, Qin Huifang!
"Let's go." Thinking about all this, Gu Tingjiang couldn't sit still for a moment longer and got up to settle accounts with that woman.
Su Xiao immediately stood up and followed closely behind.
After getting into the black sedan, Su Xiao gave the address, and the car set off smoothly.
The car arrived quickly.
Su Xiao got out of the car and pointed to the yard behind, "That's the house, you can go there yourself."
Following her finger, Gu Tingjiang successfully spotted the courtyard. Without bothering with pleasantries, he strode towards it.
Su Xiao was also quite curious and wanted to know what was happening inside.
Hearing the knock on the door, Jin Ling put down her chopsticks and ran towards the door.
She opened the door, only to find a strange man standing there. She panicked slightly. "Who are you?"
"I'm looking for Qin Huifang. Is she home?" Gu Tingjiang asked, barely suppressing his temper, when he saw that it was a young maid who opened the door.
"Qin Huifang? I don't know her." Jin Ling really didn't know that was her mother's name.
Gu Tingjiang was speechless, frowning as he called out into the courtyard, "Qin Huifang, come out here, quickly."
Gu Tingjiang's tone was unfriendly, which frightened Jin Ling so much that she almost burst into tears.
He called out once, but there was no response in the courtyard. Just as he was about to call out again, Su Xiao stopped him.
She was about to go home when that shout brought her back. It wasn't good for him to disturb the neighbors like that in the middle of the day.
"Lingling, let him in. This is the person your mother asked me to find, to help you find your brother."
Su Xiao's words still had an effect on Jin Ling.
She believed in Su Xiao.
Jin Ling stepped aside, "Then come in."
Su Xiao thought for a moment, then went in anyway, dutifully leading the person to the bedroom door. "You can go in now, she's inside."
Gu Tingjiang's face darkened upon seeing this, and he said unhappily, "Let her out. What kind of talk is it for a man and a woman to be alone in a room together?"
He said these words through gritted teeth; if he hadn't retained a shred of reason, he would have cursed them out.
Su Xiao was taken aback for a moment, then frowned and said, "How about I go in with you? It's impossible for her to come out; she's disabled in both legs and can't walk."
Upon hearing this, Gu Tingjiang's eyes flashed with surprise, followed by indifference. "Then you can come in with me."
Anyway, he learned from his mistakes and wanted to protect his reputation, but that woman had no shame.
When Gu Tingjiang saw her again, he was also taken aback. The room was filled with the smell of Chinese medicine, and the woman, who was leaning against the headboard, looked unwell.
"Tingjiang, you've come." Qin Huifang stared at him intently. "You haven't changed a bit."
