Shan Zhishu reflected on her own actions because of a single sentence from Shang Ziming, which stemmed from her birth.
She was born in the Republic of China era, into a scholarly family. However, after decades of changes, the Shan family had long since declined, her parents had passed away, and her relatives had scattered.
If Shan Zhishu and Shan Danqing hadn't married into the Shang and Qin families, they probably wouldn't have escaped their fate either.
Especially in the past few years, they lived in constant fear and trepidation.
The situation looks better now, but things can change rapidly, and policies can be changed overnight; no one can say for sure.
Therefore, we still cannot let our guard down.
After hanging up the phone, Shang Ziming reflected on his actions. After a while, he rubbed his temples and decided to have a good talk with his mother when he got home today.
As soon as Yang Degong returned home, he smelled the familiar aroma of food.
"Haha, it has to be a little girl. This braised pork with preserved mustard greens smells so good, I could eat ten bowls of rice with it." Yang Degong smelled the aroma of the food on the table and felt like he hadn't eaten for days.
"Grandpa Yang, please have a seat," Su Xiao said while serving rice. "I steamed five bowls today, that's plenty. If you like it, I'll make more for you next time."
"Haha, okay, then you'll have to come often." Yang Degong took the rice bowl, and the three of them had already sat down. Without further ado, he said, "Let's eat."
Eating is the most important thing right now.
After lunch, Tianniu suggested that she wanted to go to Su Xiao's house to play.
Yang Degong naturally agreed, only telling her to be careful and that he would pick her up that evening.
"Grandpa Yang, don't worry, I'll bring her back safely later." Su Xiao immediately assured him. She was also worried about letting Tian Niu come back alone, but it wasn't practical for Grandpa Yang to pick her up. He was quite busy every day, so it would be more convenient for her to bring her.
Yang Degong trusted Su Xiao completely and readily agreed.
In the afternoon, Yang Degong still had to go to work, so he didn't delay any longer. "Come on, I'll take you back. It'll also be a good opportunity for you to get acquainted with the place."
So, Su Xiao and Tian Niu got a ride and went straight back to their rented courtyard.
"Grandpa Yang, would you like to come in and have a seat?" Su Xiao asked as she got out of the car.
Yang Degong glanced at the time. "Next time, we're a bit pressed for time today."
"Alright, Grandpa Yang, you're welcome to visit again next time." Su Xiao waved goodbye to him.
After seeing Yang Degong off, Su Xiao took Tian Niu home.
"Yanzi, look who I brought back!" Su Xiao looked for Huang Feiyan as soon as she entered the courtyard.
Huang Feiyan and Jin Ling were in the kitchen when they heard the noise and came out.
"Oh my, Sweetie's here! Welcome, welcome!" Huang Feiyan was overjoyed to see a familiar face.
“Sister Yanzi.” Tianniu was even happier. She was originally introverted and hadn’t made any good friends since coming to Kyoto. Now, seeing every familiar face made her feel very, very warm.
"Come on, this is Jin Ling. You two should be about the same age, right? You can become friends." Su Xiao pulled them together and introduced them, "Lingling, this is Tian Tian, nicknamed Tian Niu."
"I'm thirteen this year," Jin Ling said, looking at Tian Niu with curiosity.
Sweetie blushed slightly, "I'm fourteen."
"Then I'll call you Sister Sweetie."
"Okay, Ling-mei."
The little girls formed a friendship in this way. They were both kind-hearted children, and naturally they were attracted to each other.
In the afternoon, Tianniu helped Huang Feiyan with chores while chatting and laughing, and time flew by.
Before sunset, Su Xiao and Huang Feiyan escorted Tian Niu home in the afterglow of the setting sun.
"Sister, today has been the happiest day of my trip to Kyoto," Sweetie exclaimed.
