Chapter 109 109 Nancheng Xiaoxiao

"Nancheng, Su Xiaoxiao?" Old Man Hua's clear eyes suddenly became cloudy, his thoughts raced, his heart beat faster, and his hands and feet trembled slightly.

Su Xiao nodded. "Yes, Grandpa, do you know Nancheng? It's right next door, quite close."

"South City? Haha, I know, I know, I even went there when I was young." Old Man Gong noticed Old Man Hua's emotional fluctuation and quickly half-blocked him, laughing loudly to change the subject.

Su Xiao didn't notice anything and just smiled.

"How old is Xiaoxiao? You look about the same age as Tianniu. Why did you go to the countryside?"

The group put down their baskets and went to rest. Old Man Gong casually inquired about Su Xiaoxiao's situation.

"I just look young because of my face, but I'm not actually that young. I'm four years older than Tianniu, and I'll be graduating from high school this June."

Su Xiaoxiao helped Granny Cai sort through the pig feed they brought back while answering Old Man Gong's questions, treating it as casual conversation.

Old Man Hua had calmed down and said somewhat casually, "You haven't even graduated high school yet? Why are you going to the countryside now?"

Su Xiao smiled and said, "Something came up at home, so I went to the countryside ahead of schedule."

When Old Man Hua heard that there was a problem at home, he hesitated again. Could it be just a case of the same name? He knew that the Su couple were both working, so how could they let their youngest daughter go to the countryside?

He wanted to ask her for her specific home address, but he was afraid of being too abrupt, so he was a little absent-minded for a moment.

Old Man Gong frowned slightly, sighing inwardly, and quickly continued to inquire, "Then what about your studies if you come to the countryside?"

"I have already communicated with the school leaders. I will go back in June to take the exam. If I pass, they will issue me my graduation certificate."

"Oh, that's good. Your school is quite humane."

Old Gong and Old Cai had already started chopping pig feed, and a rhythmic thumping sound came from the yard.

"Xiaoxiao, where in the south of the city do you live?" Old Man Hua thought for a moment, he was so eager to know about his family that he couldn't care less about anything else and asked anyway.

Fearing it might seem too abrupt, he added, "I have a friend in the south of the city whom I haven't been in touch with for many years. If you live nearby, I'd like you to pass on a message to me when you go back."

“Sure.” Su Xiao didn’t think too much about it. She knew about history and felt great sympathy for these elderly people. With the attitude of helping whenever possible, she readily agreed. “My home is at No. 26, Da’an Hutong, Xuanwu Road, Nancheng. Grandpa, even though it’s far away, I can still bring it to you. Don’t worry, I promise I’ll get it.”

When Su Xiao revealed his home address, not only Old Man Hua, but also Old Man Gong and Old Man Cai became excited.

They often listened to Old Man Hua's ramblings and had long since memorized that address.

Old Gong looked at his legs and then looked at Old Hua with guilt, realizing how difficult it had been for him all these years.

"Okay, thank you." Old Man Hua lowered his head, tears welling up in his eyes. Unable to hold back, he turned and left.

Su Xiao finally noticed that Old Man Hua's mood was off, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She secretly guessed that the friend he was talking about was probably a relative.

"Then I'll go take care of things over there first, gentlemen, Grandpa Cai. I'll come back when I'm done." Su Xiao sensed that the atmosphere was a bit awkward and, to avoid making the other party feel uncomfortable, she decided to leave first and give them some space to talk.

"Okay, okay, come and sit down when you're free." Grandma Cai nodded in agreement, then called to Tian Niu, "Tian Niu, you don't need to do anything here, go and help your little sister."

"OK."
