Chapter 156 The Madwoman
Wang was stunned by the kick. By the time she came to her senses, she was already high above Xiao Yuxuan, while Xiao Yuxuan was lying on the ground in a sorry state.
She looked up in surprise at the little maid who had just kicked her and uttered those arrogant words. She was a stranger to the Xiao family and had never seen her before.
In an instant, Wang was filled with shame, anger, and rage, so much so that she wanted to beat this arrogant little hussy to death right then and there!
However, before Lady Wang could speak, Xiao Yuxuan, dressed in the magnificent robes of a princess, with bright eyes and white teeth, revealed a kind and gentle smile:
"Qin Yuan, you've got it wrong. This is my aunt—the matriarch of the Lin family."
Qin Yuan suddenly realized, "Oh dear, I deserve to die, I actually kicked my maternal uncle, maternal uncle, please forgive me."
Xiao Yuxuan shook her head:
"Alright, considering you haven't been with me for long, it's normal that you don't know the Xiao family's relatives by marriage. I think your aunt won't hold it against you."
The master and servant acted as if nothing had happened, apologizing to Wang, who was still lying on the ground, while their faces remained unmoved.
Upon hearing the words "Princess's Residence," Wang's anger momentarily subsided.
Just as she was about to get up herself, she heard Xiao Yuxuan speak in an arrogant tone, as if she were a fox borrowing the tiger's power:
"How can the servants of the Lin family be so ignorant of etiquette? The mistress is kneeling and no one comes to help her up? Does this princess have to help her up herself?!"
Several servants, as if waking from a dream, rushed forward and helped Wang Shi up.
However, the servants were already terrified by this sudden scene, and Madam Wang was both shocked and angry. In her panic, she almost dropped Madam Wang again.
"Useless thing! Get out of here!"
After finally managing to stand still, Wang impatiently shook off the few maids from the Lin family standing beside her.
She adjusted her front, then raised her chin, her plump face full of criticism as she looked at Xiao Yuxuan, thinking that she looked very imposing.
"You still know I'm your aunt? This maid actually expects me to bow to you? How ridiculous! Do you have no respect for hierarchy or etiquette? I'm an elder, why should I bow to a junior like you?"
"If you don't punish this wretched hussy and give me an explanation today, this matter is not over."
She spoke too loudly, and Xiao Yuxuan frowned and took two steps back, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes.
She glanced at Qin Yuan, looking troubled:
"Aunt, what are you saying? Qin Yuan is a servant in the Princess's residence. Whether to punish or discipline her is up to my godmother. How could I make that decision?"
“Aunt, please calm down. If you get angry so easily, you’ll probably get even more wrinkles on your face. It breaks my heart to see you like this.”
"you!"
How dare you humiliate me like this?
Qin Yuan's expression suddenly turned cold as she stood beside Xiao Yuxuan:
“The princess was just telling the truth. How could it be considered an insult? To be honest, since the maternal uncle’s wife has no official title, it is only her duty to pay respects to the princess.”
"The princess is kind-hearted. Because she wanted to be close to you, she didn't force you to bow. Now, however, you see her as a pushover and dare to throw any kind of dirty water on her."
The words were spoken quickly and urgently. Wang Shi hadn't even vented her anger when she was scolded so harshly that her face turned a deep purplish-red.
Her eyes widened in anger, and she pointed a finger at Xiao Yuxuan, trembling with rage.
"You, Xiao Yuxuan, have forgotten your roots now that you've climbed the social ladder! No wonder you didn't go to the Xiao family mansion, but instead came to my house to cause trouble and make a scene, thinking that I'm just your aunt and can't be taught a lesson, huh!"
"What are you saying, you wicked woman?!"
A loud, angry shout suddenly erupted behind her, startling her so much that she trembled and turned around abruptly.
Lin Kuangzheng arrived late, having come to change his clothes.
The white hair at his temples was much more than when Xiao Yuxuan first met him, suggesting that he hadn't been doing well lately.
His refined and easygoing demeanor remained unaffected, but when he looked at Wang Shi, his former patience had been completely exhausted by the unreasonable behavior of the past twenty years, leaving only endless annoyance and indifference.
"Who let Madam out? Send her back at once!"
As the head of the family, Lin Kuangzheng's words carried more weight than anyone else's. Even though the servants were terrified and unwilling to risk trouble at this moment, they still immediately stepped forward to try and restrain Wang Shi.
But Wang was already on the verge of exploding. She had just been humiliated by Xiao Yuxuan and her maid, and now Lin Kuangzheng was about to kick her out without saying a word.
On what grounds?!
One of them, surnamed Xiao, and the other, surnamed Lin, wanted to team up and bully her, a woman confined to the inner quarters? No way!
"Let me go! I am the matriarch of the Lin family! How dare you treat me like this? Lin Kuangzheng, you heartless bastard! I have borne children and managed affairs for your Lin family for so many years. Even if I have no merit, I have worked hard. Your niece is clearly bullying me, and you still speak up for her! Is there no justice in this world?!"
She didn't know where she got the strength, but she flung aside the two servants on either side of her, and they all knelt on the ground as if they had been deflated, completely losing their composure.
"What are you doing? Why are you acting crazy in front of Princess Chang Le?!"
Lin Kuangzheng had been terrified of Wang Shi these past few days. Seeing her start crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide without any regard for the consequences, he felt even more troubled and ashamed.
The headache was that the Lin family had never taken a concubine or divorced a wife before. Apart from restricting Wang's activities and frequently advising her, he could not actually divorce her.
The shame stemmed from the fact that Xiao Yuxuan was still standing there with Qing Lingling. As his uncle and the Chancellor of the Imperial Academy, he should have set an example in governing the country, managing his family, and bringing peace to the world. Now that his family was in such a mess, how could he have the face to continue holding the position of Chancellor?
"What a load of rubbish Princess Chang Le! She got her title by currying favor with others. If I were twenty years younger and had that ambition, I could have done it too!"
Wang was so angry that she lost her mind and uttered a series of slanderous and defamatory remarks with a sharp and sarcastic expression.
Xiao Yuxuan remained expressionless despite her reckless words, but Lin Kuangzheng and Qin Yuan were quite angry.
Qin Yuan didn't say anything, after all, they were also considered masters. Without Xiao Yuxuan's permission, she couldn't speak rashly. She could only grit her teeth and glare back fiercely.
However, Lin Kuangzheng is different. No matter how willful and capricious Wang Shi was before, she was still in the Lin family. Now she is in front of Xiao Yuxuan. How can people think of her saying such things?
"Crazy woman! Gag her and send her back to her yard. She's not allowed to step out of the house without my permission!"
He regarded the teachings of sages as his guiding principle, cherished integrity and virtue for most of his life, and never quarreled with anyone. Now, when facing the Wang family, even if he was furious, he could only say that they were confined to their homes.
But how can that be enough?
Xiao Yuxuan placed her hand on Lin Kuangzheng's arm, looking troubled:
“Uncle, don’t argue with Aunt because of me. Besides, what Aunt said is right. Over the years, Aunt has worked hard in the Lin family, even if she hasn’t done anything particularly meritorious. It doesn’t matter if I get scolded a few times. We’ll see each other again in the future. Do you expect Aunt to be locked up every time? I’m really uneasy about it.”
