Anle suddenly sat up with a start, pulled back the curtains and looked outside, patting her chest with a pounding heart.
"Seriously? This rain is that dramatic? It's terrifying!"
The next day, the sky did not clear up, and the torrential rain continued to fall. There were not many customers in the shop. Because of the rain, Anle and her siblings did not go to school and played cards in the shop out of boredom.
Anning: "A!"
An Ding: "Pass!"
Anle: "I can't afford it!"
An Yi: "Go for it, the royal flush!"
An Ning curled her lip, glanced at the two little devils that An Yi had thrown out, and said with a sour taste in her mouth, "A pair of lazy hands, yet you have such good luck."
An Yi glared at An Ning with deep resentment in her eyes.
"Hey, how can you talk like that?"
That's not fair! How come you can always twist everything you do to criticize me?
The perfume thing has been completely forgotten!
I got a real lecture from Mom when I got home last night, are you ever going to stop?
"Hmph, this isn't over until you get my perfume back."
"I've already given it away, where am I supposed to get it back for you? I can't very well ask for it back, can I? If I really ask someone for it, what will I do with my reputation?"
An Ning spat.
"Pah, you've always been shameless."
Anle looked at An Yi with a forced smile and said, "Hey, Third Brother, who did you give that perfume to?"
That was something I planned to use to open a shop and do business in the future, and you just gave it away to me so easily.
You think it's worthless?
An Yi's eyes darted around, looking here and there, his words hesitant and avoiding direct eye contact with An Le's radar-like eyes.
"You...you don't care who I give it to, it's a gift anyway."
An Ning glanced at An Yi out of the corner of her eye, her tone neither warm nor cold.
"And who was that little girl you sent flowers to yesterday? Tsk tsk tsk, she's so pretty, those big, bright eyes are so captivating."
An Yi was taken aback. "Huh? No way? You don't even know who that little girl is?"
That's the most famous beauty in our town, the second young lady of the He family, He Yuxin, He Yusheng's younger sister.
Anle paused, her hand on the potato chips stiffening slightly.
"Third Brother, what did you say? That little girl is He Yusheng's sister?"
So... the woman who brought He Yusheng's sister to her door yesterday to discuss the sale of prescriptions, could she be a member of the He family?
An Ning gasped in surprise.
"If she's Miss He, why isn't she in school? I've never seen her there."
An Yi snorted.
"Do you think everyone is like you? Hanging out with young masters and not taking it seriously?"
Although they didn't go to school to study with us, they still hired a tutor to teach them at home.
They claimed it was because this woman shouldn't be in the public eye.
An Ning rolled her eyes.
"Pretending, if that's really the case, then why did she come into our shop yesterday? There are quite a few people coming and going from our shop."
“Our shop is in such a new location, and we’re the only one in the whole town. Of course she’d be curious and come to take a look.”
"Only a scoundrel like you, Third Brother, would know whose young master is handsome and whose young lady is pretty."
An Yi, with his neck stiff, retorted to An Ning.
"Who said that? An Shoushan knows."
Anle watched the noisy twins, a boy and a girl, speechless. Uh... they were making so much noise that she couldn't get any peace and quiet.
Time passed amidst the noise and commotion. Anle had planned to tell He Yusheng about the He family's sale of prescriptions when he came over, and ask him if he knew anything about it.
The torrential rain continued for three days without stopping. Due to the uncooperative weather, her Paradise Dessert Shop was deserted with no customers, and He Yusheng was nowhere to be seen.
I haven't had the chance to tell him about this yet.
Liu Xiaoqiao looked out the window at the torrential rain pouring down on the glass and sighed with relief.
"Fortunately, we managed to harvest the crops before the rains this year, otherwise all the crops would have been ruined."
Anle blinked. "Auntie, does this kind of torrential rain happen here every year during the harvest season?"
"It's certain that there will be a lot of rain this season. In previous years, we had to rush to harvest the crops before the rainy days."
They hurriedly dried the wheat and stored it in the granary.
Otherwise, once the rain starts, all the wheat growing in the fields and the wheat drying in the threshing ground will be ruined.
"But there's never been this much rain in previous years. This year's rain is just too heavy."
The scholar who entered through the back door had a worried expression on his face and was muttering to himself.
"The rain is so heavy and shows no signs of stopping. If it continues like this, the mud houses in the villages and towns will probably all be washed away in less than three days."
Anle turned around at the sound and saw the scholar had closed his umbrella, his clothes damp with moisture, and his blue long robe clung to his body, making him look even thinner and more frail.
"Oh, it's Teacher Zhen! What brings you to the front of the room, Teacher Zhen?" The scholar, true to his name, remained silent.
Aside from teaching her older sister to play the piano, she usually stays in her room and rarely interacts with others.
Rather than being dull, her personality was more like timid. She seemed quiet and reserved, but she could tell that the child was definitely socially anxious and afraid of interacting and talking with people.
Zhen Buyan moved his lips somewhat awkwardly and gave An Le a slight smile.
"When it's time for piano lessons, people who can't find their students come to check."
An Jing bowed to Zhen Buyan with an apologetic and embarrassed expression.
"Teacher, I was playing and forgot the time. I even had to call you to come and find me. I'm so sorry."
Zhen chuckled softly.
"Don't worry about it."
Anle waved her hand, "Oh, what's the big deal? It's just a good way to relax and have some fun in this rainy weather."
Teacher Zhen, why don't you come along and relax too!
What's the point of staying cooped up inside all day? Come on over, have some food and drinks with us, and enjoy life to the fullest.
An Ning, with her keen sense of observation, ran up and shoved Zhen Buyan, who was clearly becoming increasingly uneasy in the half-hall, and pushed him towards her.
"Fourth Miss, no, I'm damp and my shoes are all wet. The floor is so clean, it will make the floor dirty."
"It's okay, it's okay, come and play with me. My little sister has lots of fun things and games here."
Play with my little sister, Teacher Baozhen, you won't be bored all day.
"Come, come, Teacher Zhen, you're not much older than us, so don't be so reserved. Let me teach you how to play Monopoly."
An Yi smiled and put his arm around Zhen Buyan's neck, but An Ning glared at him fiercely and slapped him away.
"What are you doing, Third Brother? Don't be so disrespectful. In the words of the Master, this is called rude behavior and disrespect for elders."
