Both sides had their own reasons, leaving Anle stunned.
Wow, wow, these two old women are really something! They're like those sulking roosters!
She finally saw what a shrew from the streets really looked like!
These two old women are something else! They're like the legendary fighter jets among roosters!
Just as the two old women's argument reached its climax, the owner of the grain shop ran out, "Mother, why are you still sitting on the ground? The ground is cold, please get up!"
Upon seeing her son help her in-laws up from the ground, Hong Lanzhi jumped up and down, howling in her hoarse voice.
"You unfilial son! Do you even respect your mother? I raised a son only to have him become someone else's son! My life is so miserable!"
After saying that, the man pounced on his son and started hitting and beating him.
"Mother, what are you yelling about in the street?" Wu Liangdong grabbed Hong Lanzhi's old arm and pulled her into the alley. He whispered something to her, and Hong Lanzhi's irritable temper was immediately calmed down. She glanced at the An family couple and turned away into the alley without saying a word.
Wu Liangdong breathed a sigh of relief and came over to help the two elders of the An family onto the oxcart. He then gave An Mancang a seemingly apologetic look.
"Second brother, that's just how my mother is. Don't be shy. Go back and comfort our parents."
"Oh, it's not on my mind. It's just that I'll have to trouble my brother-in-law and sister to take care of Manyi. I originally wanted to bring Manyi back with me this time, but she went to the new house with my sister, and I—"
"Don't worry, Second Brother, with your sister-in-law here. After a few more days of playing, I'll find some time to personally take her back."
"Alright, then I'll have to trouble you, brother-in-law. You're the only one in the shop, so please go back to the shop and get busy."
"Okay." Wu Liangdong glanced at An Ding and An Le and smiled, "Once the new house is ready, An Ding and An Le can come over and play there together. Your aunt will cook you something delicious. She's been so busy at the new house these past few days that she hasn't had time for this place. So, we won't keep you here for dinner today."
An Ding grinned at Wu Liangdong and said, "Uncle, go inside and get busy. We're leaving now." He spoke as if they had invited them to stay for a meal.
His aunt had always looked down on his family, so when had she ever invited them to eat? He knew that his uncle was just being polite to them.
The two elderly people seemed to be in a bad mood throughout the journey, both of them with long faces.
An Mancang drove the oxcart, glancing back at his parents several times, hesitant to speak, not daring to bring up the matter of getting Anle medical treatment while the two elders were still angry.
Seeing that they were about to pass by the clinic, An Ding gritted her teeth and opened her mouth.
"Grandpa and Grandma, there's something I need to tell you."
"What's up?"
Hearing An Ding's voice sound like he was spitting out words, An Daliang, puffing on his cigarette, lifted his eyelids and glanced at him.
An Ding coughed and mumbled something.
"Grandpa, my little sister fell from a tree in the mountains a while ago and hit her head. She doesn't remember anything anymore."
"Father... he figured he'd take advantage of the time he was picking you and Grandma up to go to the clinic with my little sister and have the doctor examine her head."
Before An Daliang could speak, He Sanfeng, who was sitting cross-legged on the oxcart with a droopy face, started howling loudly.
"What? A medical clinic? What kind of family do we have? A medical clinic?"
Is that clinic a place we can go to? Going to a clinic costs money, doesn't it?
"I knew this troublesome little thing was coming! Why is it sitting here so quietly now? Did it hurt its head?"
He Sanfeng, in a fit of anger, grabbed Anle's ear and twisted it. The habitual and practiced action showed that she had often pulled the original owner's ears.
"Why are you running up the mountain? Are you tired of living? Why can't you give your parents a break?"
"Giving birth to you is truly a waste of money! Can't you just behave yourself every day? I'd rather beat you to death, you good-for-nothing! You're such a handful!"
Anle grimaced in pain as she pried at He Sanfeng. Damn, how come this old woman has such a strong grip?
Why did things escalate from mere conversation to physical violence?
Just as He Sanfeng was about to strike with her "tiger's claws," Anle pushed He Sanfeng away and glared at her.
"Try touching me again? If you do, I'll push you down, you old hag."
Since everyone says the original owner wasn't a peaceful person, she wasn't afraid to reveal her true nature here. At most, she was just being herself!
Startled by Anle's sharp, cold glare, the old woman was clearly taken aback for a moment, and then her fiery temper flared up the next instant.
"Hey, you unruly brat! You've hit your head and you still dare to talk back to me like that? I'm going to break your legs today! I'll teach you to run up the mountain again, and I'll teach you to talk back to me again!"
Anle, expressionless, gave He Sanfeng a shove, using every ounce of her strength to push He Sanfeng off the oxcart. Her move was ruthless and decisive, sending He Sanfeng sprawling to the ground.
"Ouch, that nearly killed my old bones!" He Sanfeng was startled and groaned as she fell to the ground, crying out in pain.
An Daliang was stunned, never expecting that An Le would actually dare to be so disrespectful and resort to violence.
An Ding exclaimed in surprise, "Milk—"
An Mancang's face darkened, and he abandoned the cart, quickly jumping off and helping He Sanfeng up in a few strides.
"Mother! Mother! How are you? Are you alright?"
