Chapter 40 Meat Buns

Hey, look like the extra three coins are for her to buy sugar figurines. Is it a reward for her earning money for the family today?

However, she is not a real child.

"Boss, give me two meat buns."

"Alright, little one, you and your daughter must have made quite a bit of money today. I doubt any of the street vendors in this whole town have earned as much as you two." The shopkeeper's words had a hint of sarcasm in them.

Anle's eyes flickered, and she spoke with a smile.

“But the little money we earn isn’t enough to build a house. My family doesn’t even have a house. We live in other people’s houses. My dad was kicked out of the house by my grandparents with nothing. My family needs to earn some money to build a house.”

Upon hearing this, the shop owner was taken aback, and the sour look on his face vanished instantly. He looked at An Le with a hint of sympathy and said, "Sigh, every family has its own troubles!"

"Yes, yes, although life is tough, we still have to live it. This is the first time I've ever eaten a meat bun in my life."

Anle smiled and said pitiful things, but she wasn't lying. The original owner really hadn't tasted the meat bun before.

After all, he was a pitiful person who couldn't even afford to eat eggs!

Upon hearing Anle's words, the boss was stunned again, only sighing and adding a touch of sympathy to his eyes.

Anle ran back to Anmancang with two meat buns wrapped in oil paper. Without caring about getting dirty, she grabbed one with her hands and ate it, then handed the other to Anmancang, saying, "Dad, I bought two. You can have some too."

An Mancang stared at the meat bun for a moment, then his eyes turned red.

His son, Le, is really sensible. He even thinks of his father when there's food. He took the meat bun from Anle's hand, wrapped up the part he hadn't eaten, and stuffed it into the clothes where he kept his money. "Didn't I tell you to go buy a sugar figurine?"

"I don't like sugar figurines," Anle said with a smile, reaching out to take out a meat bun instead.

"Dad, eat some too. Eat it while it's hot, it won't taste good when it's cold."

“Father doesn’t eat, Father isn’t hungry. Take it back for Kangwa to eat.”

"We'll buy it when we get home, so everyone can have some."

"Nonsense, these meat buns are too expensive. Our family can't afford them."

“I can afford it, I can afford it. If I say I can afford it, then I can afford it.” Anle gave the little boy who was fiddling with a Rubik’s Cube a meaningful look.

She realized that this kid wasn't after money at all; he had taken a liking to playing with Rubik's Cubes.

This kid has a lot of fun to do; there's a chance to make money off him.

Thinking this through, Anle smiled and whispered something in Anmancang's ear.

"Father, I can find other ways to earn you even more money tomorrow."

An Mancang's eyes widened instantly, staring intently at An Le. It seemed that his little girl had developed a whole set of ways to make money ever since she started worshipping the gods.

What new way have you come up with to make money?

"Dad, we made some money today, so let's have a good meal and buy some meat buns to take home."

Let's buy some more eggs to cook for my younger brother. We'll have some work to do when we get back tonight.

I'll tell you how to make money when I get back. Our whole family has to work, so we need to make sure we eat well.

An Mancang nodded with some doubt.

With so much money earned, it's certainly possible to afford to treat the children to a good meal.

Seeing An Mancang nod, An Le chuckled. Her cheap father was quite sensible.

She needs to subtly change this family's lifestyle from now on, so they never have to live such a poor life again.

Qiao Qiuniang was getting anxious as the sky was darkening and all her siblings had returned, except for An Mancang and An Le, who were still nowhere to be seen.

"Where did Mancang take Lewazi? They've been playing for so long, it's time for them to come back."

"Mother, don't worry. Little sister must be having fun and doesn't want to come back yet. Father knows what's going on. I'll definitely bring her back before dark."

Just as An Ding finished speaking, An Mancang returned with An Le in his arms, carrying clothes in his arms.

"Why have you been playing outside for so long? We need to go and wait for Uncle Xu soon, we can't keep him waiting." Qiao Qiuniang gave An Mancang, who was leading Anle over, a reproachful look.

Anle smiled and looked at Qiao Qiuniang, who had packed up her stall, and casually asked, "Mother, how did your embroidered handkerchiefs sell?"

Qiao Qiuniang sighed, "Only three were sold, and it was the fourth brother who sold them."

Anle laughed heartily.

"Then let's go home and come back tomorrow."

Qiao Qiuniang shook her head.

"The round-trip fare is too expensive, I won't come tomorrow."

An Mancang rarely agreed with An Le's opinion, saying, "I'll come again tomorrow. I'll bring Lewazi with me tomorrow."

The young master who played with the Rubik's Cube today insisted on buying it from his father and daughter. It was because he kept playing with it so much that they came back so late.

However, Lewazi had already promised him that he would go there again tomorrow. Since there was money to be made, he naturally had to go.

This was the first time he had ever seen money so easily; in just one day, he had probably earned an ounce or two of silver.

Qiao Qiuniang glanced at An Mancang in surprise, opened her mouth, but seeing her husband's determined expression, she swallowed her words. She only glanced at An Le and sighed inwardly.

I wonder what her little daughter did to persuade him this time.

Let's ask each other when we get home.

"Dad, what are you holding in your arms? Why do I smell a meaty aroma?" An Yi, with sharp eyes, glanced at the clothes An Mancang was holding and sniffed them.

Anle grinned, "Dad bought meat buns, one for each of you, everyone gets a share, I'll share them with you when we get home."

An Yi stared wide-eyed in disbelief.

"What?! Meat buns?!" When has his family ever eaten meat buns? This is the first time this young lady has ever had them!

"Dad, how could you bear to buy meat buns? These meat buns are expensive!" An Ning shrieked and grabbed at An Mancang's clothes.

Upon opening it, the strong aroma of meat wafting from the oil paper package was unmistakably that of a meat bun!

"Dad, this really is a meat bun!"

An Ding stared at An Mancang in astonishment.

"Dad, why did you buy meat buns? Where did we get the money to buy meat buns?"

Qiao Qiuniang was also staring blankly at the oil paper package wrapped in the clothes.

"Mancang, you—"

Anle frowned impatiently. "Hey, what are you all doing? Honestly, the way you're questioning me, aren't you just easy targets?"

"You've made some money, can't you even buy some meat buns? If you're so capable, then don't eat any when you get home."
