Chapter 48 Entering the Mountains

After entering the house in the evening, the things were taken out and divided. An Dalin looked at the small jar of wine on the kang table with a complicated expression.

He secretly turned his back, away from the whole family, wiped his eyes with his sleeve, picked up Anle, put her on the kang (a heated brick bed), poured himself a cup, and drank it.

"Granddaughter, this is the first time in my life that I've ever drunk wine bought by my granddaughter."

Old Man Lao took a big gulp, hugged Anle tightly, and rubbed her fluffy little head. "An Laosan said you're a troublesome girl, but if you ask me, you're the most considerate girl."

When An Le heard An Dalin mention that old scoundrel An Daliang, he curled his lip.

Anning clutched the chicken feather hair clip that Anle had bought for her with great delight, grinning happily and saying, "Grandpa is right, my little sister is the most caring, she's such a sweet little angel."

"This is exactly the same as the one that Li Dapang bought."

An Yi excitedly hugged the books An Le had bought for him, carefully flipping through them again and again. He touched this inkstone and that Xuan paper, not knowing where to put his eyes and hands.

An Ding looked at the books and pen that were still for him, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up. He hadn't expected that there would be a copy for him too.

Qiao Qiuniang was both happy and worried. She glanced at An Mancang with a reproachful look, "You're wasting money on her again. I only paid for Yiwazi's tuition. Isn't this extra book a waste?"

An Mancang shook his head.

“I gave her twenty coins and told her to go to the temple to burn incense. All the money I earned today is here.”

Qiao Qiuniang was stunned. She hadn't paid?

That--

"Le Wa Zi, where did you get the money to buy these things?"

Anle smiled and winked.

"I earned it myself." With that, he poured the remaining half of the silver coins out of the basket.

"Second brother, don't worry. I'll earn back your share of the money for school tomorrow, and I'll also earn back the shares for eldest sister and fourth sister."

I've spent half of it, and I have 250 cash left. I'll divide it into five portions of 50 cash each, for everyone to use as pocket money. My younger brother's portion will be given to Mother for safekeeping.

Qiao Qiuniang stared blankly at the copper coin that Anle had given her legs with just a few words, and opened her mouth.

"Lewa, you can't spend this money recklessly. You should save it if you can. What kind of child has so much money in his hands? You can't just play around with money like this."

But how did he earn this money?

How come her little girl earns money like it's nothing?

Anle looked unconvinced, "It's not much. Buying some paper and pens and such is all that money goes into it."

After that, when my older sister and brother went to school, they had to have some pocket money to buy writing brushes, ink, and Xuan paper, right?

Shouldn't you buy some hair accessories or something?

Shouldn't we buy some snacks or something?

There are so many other things to do with money, this little bit is nowhere near enough!

Anle, like a spendthrift woman, waved her hand at her older siblings, who were all wealthy, with her little paws.

"Come and count yourselves, fifty coins each."

An Ding and the others stared at the pile of copper coins on the kang (a heated brick bed), but none of them dared to touch it.

In this village, the only one who would share so much money with her older siblings like pebbles is this little sister, whose mind seems to be different from other children.

However, this young lady is truly amazing and admirable.

Anjing pursed her lips, glanced at Qiao Qiuniang, and then looked at Anle.

"Little sister, are you going to share all the money with us?"

Anle smiled and nodded, "I won't go to town with Dad tomorrow. I'll take my second and third brothers to the mountains."

An Ding was taken aback. "Going into the mountains? You're coming with me? What are you going into the mountains for?"

Anle tossed her little head and replied in a matter-of-fact tone, "I'll take you guys to get rich and make a fortune!"

"..." Everyone was dumbfounded.

Anle crossed his arms smugly and raised an eyebrow, "I'll show you my money-making skills tomorrow. I went to the temple today and got another treasure from the gods. If I can use it tomorrow, I'll make a fortune. You must take me with you tomorrow."

An Ding shook his head and refused.

"That won't work."

Upon hearing the word "treasure," An Yi's eyes lit up. "Little sister, what kind of treasure is it this time?"

Anle blinked, ignoring An Yi, and stared at An Ding, asking, "Why?"

An Ding sighed, "Now that spring has arrived, the wild animals in the mountains are all out hunting for food, which is the most dangerous time."

I don't even dare go into the mountains to chop firewood anymore, for fear of encountering wild animals. I just scavenge for firewood on the outskirts. Taking you there would be even more impossible.

Anle's eyes lit up. "Yes, yes, yes, it's the perfect time! This is the perfect time to go!"

"I'll take you hunting. This time we'll go big, hunt a few wild boars, and sell them in town for a good price."

Anning let out a sharp cry.

"What? You want to go hunt wild boar? Little sister, are you out of your mind? You think you can fight wild boar? You'd be more likely to get gored by it. No way, absolutely not."

An Dalin lightly slapped An Le on the back, also disapproving, "I think you're just being reckless. You absolutely can't go into the mountains. You should go to town with your father."

Anle's eyes flickered, and she turned her head to look at An Dalin, who was holding her.

"Grandpa, why don't you take the Rubik's Cube to town and set up a stall tomorrow, and have Dad take me into the mountains? If I go into the mountains with Dad, everyone will feel at ease, right?"

An Dalin's old eyes widened in surprise, "I'll go?"

Anle smiled and massaged An Dalin's arm, acting coquettishly.

"Ah, you go ahead. Let your father tell you where that place is. You can keep watch for a day, and whatever money you earn is yours to keep. Earn some money to buy yourself some wine."

An Mancang was stunned. This blockhead could reliably earn one or two taels of silver a day, which was more than An Mancang earned in a month.

You can't earn this much by going into the mountains!

"Le Wa Zi, this—"

Anle chuckled.

"Dad, Grandpa is so bored at home. Why don't we let him go out for a walk? He can earn money that way. It's not tiring work; he just sits and collects the money. Dad, just consider it a small token of respect for Grandpa, okay?"

Having said all that, An Mancang licked his dry lips and nodded.

"Dad, you go tomorrow. I'll take Lewazi into the mountains to hunt some wild rabbits or something. We can bring them back for a treat, and they'll be perfect for you to have with your drinks. Third brother, you can come with me."

Upon hearing that he could enter the town, An Yi slapped his thigh and readily agreed, "Okay!"

The joy of entering the town instantly overshadowed my curiosity about the baby.

Anyway, he'll see the treasure his little sister asked for sooner or later.

The next morning, Anle happily followed An Mancang and his son An Ding into the mountains, after Qiao Qiuniang's repeated instructions.
