Anle blinked, paused for a moment, and spoke in a calm and ordinary tone.
"I heard that this is the young master of the He family in town. He helped me bring some goods back and then brought me back."
My father was right behind me; he'd bought an ox and was leading it home. He'd given me permission to ride in his carriage back.
Qiao Qiuniang stared at Anle with a surprised look and asked a question.
Why did they bring you back?
Anle shrugged matter-of-factly.
"Of course it's because of business!"
I was just trying to sell him something interesting, so he was naturally happy to send me back.
"Since I've got nothing better to do anyway, it wouldn't hurt to take me back to my village, would it?"
He Yusheng scurried over, nodded and smiled at Qiao Qiuniang as a greeting, then his fawning gaze shifted to Anle, and he asked obsequiously.
Where do I put all these things?
Anle smiled and pointed to the outer room, "Just put it next to the stove in that outer room."
He Yusheng waved to the servant, "Hurry up, to that room."
With his eyes narrowed in a smile, He Yusheng chuckled, looking rather silly. "Look, I've come all this way. Can you let me take a look at that nice thing you mentioned?"
Anle resolutely refused.
"That won't do. The product isn't finished yet. Many parts haven't been installed. If you see it now, there won't be any surprises later."
He Yusheng's face fell in a miserable expression.
"Are you just going to let me go back like this? At least let me have a look."
Anle's eyes darted around, and the corners of her mouth turned up.
"I can't satisfy your visual cravings, but I can satisfy your verbal cravings."
He Yusheng raised an eyebrow.
"What?!"
Anle's lips curled into a smile.
"Let me ask you, do young masters like you have eaten all kinds of pastries?"
"Are all young ladies and gentlemen from wealthy and powerful families particularly picky about food?"
He Yusheng was taken aback. "Uh... more or less. I've eaten quite a few, but I don't usually like pastries. I'm not into them. Why are you asking about this?"
Anle blinked and smiled at Qiao Qiuniang.
"Mom, do we still have half a basket of sweet potatoes left?"
She had seen the food that was always piled up in the corner of the outer room, next to the cornmeal.
Qiao Qiuniang was taken aback by the question.
"There's still half a basket left, Lewa, what are you going to do with it?"
Anle clapped her little hands and grinned at Qiao Qiuniang.
"Mom, can you steam the remaining half basket of sweet potatoes?"
I was thinking of selling pastries in the future, so I just wanted to give it a try first.
"Make it and let this young master try it. If he likes it, then we'll definitely sell well."
Qiao Qiuniang shook her head.
"You silly girl, you're being reckless again. Sweet potatoes are a good thing here, but what good are they in a rich family's house?"
"They're wealthy families; every household has sweet potatoes. What's so special about that?"
How could a young master from a wealthy family possibly like to eat sweet potatoes?
"Oh dear, Mom, you don't trust me anyway, so just go and steam it. It's nothing expensive anyway. Once it's steamed, do as I say, and I guarantee he'll like it."
He Yusheng, standing to the side, twitched his lips. What the heck?
"Satisfying one's cravings" means letting him eat sweet potatoes?
"Um... well, I really don't care for sweet potatoes. You should keep them for yourself. I'll be going now."
Anle grabbed He Yusheng, "Hey, hey, don't go! You haven't even eaten any, how do you know my cooking isn't good?"
Just you wait, I guarantee you'll be craving more today, and you'll want to eat it all again and again.
He Yusheng's expression stiffened slightly. He really wasn't interested in sweet potatoes; if he liked them, he would just go home and eat them himself.
Anle looked at He Yusheng, who was pleading for mercy with a pitiful expression, and said, "I won't listen."
"Stop looking at me like that, begging me to let you go. My sweet potatoes are different from other people's. I guarantee you'll get to eat something fresh in a bit."
"Hmph, you won't be like this after you've tasted it."
He Yusheng's eyebrows twitched.
Why are your sweet potatoes different from other people's?
"Your sweet potatoes weren't a gift from the gods, were they?"
Anle paused for a moment, then a sly and mysterious smile flashed in her eyes.
"Hey, you're half right. Although my sweet potatoes weren't a gift from the gods, there's one thing that was!"
He Yusheng became interested upon hearing this, his eyes filled with curiosity.
"What?"
Anle kept everyone in suspense, her smile once again tinged with feigned mystery.
You'll find out in a moment.
Qiao Qiuniang listened, completely stunned.
"What? The gods have given you something again? What have they given you this time?"
Anle shoved Qiao Qiuniang towards the outer room, "Oh, Mother, don't ask anymore, hurry up and steam the sweet potatoes, I need them urgently."
Qiao Qiuniang suppressed her curiosity and reluctantly washed the remaining half basket of sweet potatoes and put them in the pot.
Anle made an excuse to go to the outhouse, then quickly slipped into the system space and planted the necessary ingredients.
Emerging from the outhouse, one sees a bored He Yusheng, who, with nothing to do, squats beside her rabbit hutch, holding a cabbage leaf in her hand, playing with the rabbit alongside An Kang.
Anle squatted down next to He Yusheng and patted him with a smile.
"Let me tell you, you didn't come all this way for nothing. I'll make sure you get to eat something delicious, and I won't let you help out here for nothing by letting you taste the food."
"Hmm? Not for nothing? Is there some benefit in it?"
"Yes, yes, once my pastry shop opens, I'll give you a 50% discount whenever you come."
He Yusheng stared at An Le with a completely bewildered expression.
"50% off?"
"Ah, it means I'll give you a 50% discount, I'll sell everything to you at half price."
He Yusheng stared at An Le scrutinizingly for three seconds, then a smirk appeared on his lips.
"Hey, if any other little girl said something like that, I definitely wouldn't believe it, but since it's you, I'll believe it to some extent."
Anle pouted.
"Hmph? Half-believing? Am I only worth half-believing?"
"I believe in half of it, but I still have to leave it to fate—" He Yusheng paused mid-sentence, his expression hardening, and stopped abruptly.
Anle glanced sideways at He Yusheng, who stopped halfway through his sentence.
"What are you looking at?"
He Yusheng shook his head.
"nothing."
Tch, don't think she doesn't know. She's only doing this because of the gods. It seems she'll really have to use the gods' name to get things done in the future.
“Since you’re just killing time anyway, I’ll teach you something fun to play.” Anle magically produced a deck of cards from his hand.
He Yusheng found it fascinating.
"What's this?"
"This is a fun and educational toy. Let's go inside and play."
