Chapter 54 My Butt Is Spread Out of Shape (Seeking Monthly Tickets)
The group went to the woods in a grand procession. Song Wei and Zhou Tianyu were still tied to the tree. One of them fainted from crying, and the other was so scared that he wet his pants.
Afterwards, Wang Xiaohu was severely beaten, his buttocks were bruised and battered.
He lay on the bed groaning, and Wang Shun placed two steamed buns by his bedside before leaving as usual.
Wang Xiaohu struggled to sit up, but the wound on his buttocks reopened as soon as he moved, causing him great pain. However, he didn't intend to stay at home; he was going to get the rabbit.
Xu Qingmo brought the rabbit over directly; it was lively and bouncy, and was placed on Wang Xiaohu's bed.
“I’ve given you what I promised. Have you figured out how to explain the origin of this rabbit?” Xu Qingmo asked, standing not far away.
Xu Qingmo wasn't afraid of Wang Shuncai finding out the truth; she just didn't want to cause trouble for her family.
Wang Xiaohu chuckled, "I've already thought it through, I won't betray you."
"That would be best." Xu Qingmo turned to leave, but Wang Xiaohu called her back.
"Call me again next time something like this happens."
"You should take care of your ass first."
Yesterday's beating was done in front of everyone in the family compound; he was giving Zhang Cui and Liu Guiying's family an explanation.
After beating Wang Xiaohu, Wang Xiaohu took responsibility upon himself, saying that Song Wei and Zhou Tianyu could ask him for anything they needed.
Wang Shuncai would never refuse to do anything within his power.
This finally calmed Liu Guiying and Zhang Cui down.
Wang Xiaohu felt that getting a whole rabbit for just a beating was an incredibly good deal.
"Don't worry, my butt will heal quickly." Wang Xiaohu could still manage a smile.
Xu Qingmo thought he was a madman who would do anything for a bite to eat.
People in the Mingming family compound don't have a problem getting food. They can go to the canteen when they don't want to cook, and they can cook at home when they don't want to eat at the canteen.
The army distributes food every now and then, so why does Wang Xiaohu's eyes light up when he sees meat?
Xu Qingmo didn't answer him and turned to leave.
Wang Jing and Shen Jiang were still at home, and Lu Ting had gone to school. Xu Qingmo didn't go back to bother them and went to play by the river alone.
Several families were washing clothes by the river when they saw Xu Qingmo walking towards the river. They couldn't help but remind her, "The river is quite deep here, you'd better not go near the water."
"Okay," Xu Qingmo replied.
Xu Qingmo continued walking forward, and suddenly she noticed some crayfish on the shore. These crayfish were not small, and she immediately became interested.
She couldn't resist bending down to pick them up, but her hands were too small; she could only hold one in each hand and couldn't get a second one.
"Auntie, could you lend me one of your basins? I want to go pick crayfish." Xu Qingmo asked the nearest person to borrow a basin.
The other person had already washed the clothes. She brought two basins, picked up one of them and washed it several times in the water before handing the basin to Xu Qingmo.
The man didn't leave; instead, he put the washed clothes aside and followed Xu Qingmo.
“I’ll lend you the basin, but I’m going to come with you. You’re too young to walk by the river alone. Where are your family?” Zhou Haihong asked.
"Auntie, I'm fine. My parents are relieved that I came. You can come with me if you want. I'll share some of the crayfish and fish I catch with you later," Xu Qingmo replied, her eyes fixed on the water.
Zhou Haihong smiled and said, "I don't want yours. You're so young, and you already know how to come out and find things to take home. You're a good child, but you're too young. It's still not safe by the water. If you don't have an adult with you in the future, it's best if you don't come here anymore."
Xu Qingmo simply smiled and did not answer.
Xu Qingmo found that the crayfish here were easy to catch, and she caught half a basin of them in no time.
Suddenly, she saw a carp weighing about four or five pounds swimming over.
Xu Qingmo picked up a stone from the ground and smashed it hard against the carp's head.
"No, no, no... that was a guide fish, you... killed it?" Zhou Haihong was shocked.
I once heard from the old folks in the village that the guide fish are controlled by water ghosts, which lure people to catch them and then drag them down to deep water to become substitutes for the water ghosts.
Zhou Haihong had seen this kind of fish a few times, but she always kept her distance.
She had intended to warn Xu Qingmo, but to her surprise, the girl picked up a stone and smashed the guide fish to death almost without hesitation.
"No matter what kind of fish it is, any fish that can be eaten is a good fish." The dead carp floated to the surface.
Xu Qingmo used a stick to push the fish to the riverbank, bent down, picked it up, and put it in a basin. "Auntie, this fish is for you, and the crayfish is mine. Consider it a thank you for lending me the basin."
Zhou Haihong was utterly shocked. "You really want to give me such a big fish?"
"Of course."
"No, no, this is something you worked so hard to get, I can't take it from you."
"Since I got it, I can give it to whomever I want."
Zhou Haihong still felt it was inappropriate; she had only lent a basin and hadn't been able to help in any way.
"Whose child are you? It's getting late, let me take you home," Zhou Haihong asked.
Xu Qingmo estimated that by this time, Wang Jing and Shen Jiang had already gotten up.
Zhou Haihong was very welcoming, and she didn't refuse, saying, "My home is over there."
Xu Qingmo pointed in a direction that Zhou Haihong found very familiar. She picked up the basin of clothes, but struggled to hold the basin of fish and shrimp in her other hand.
The people who came along to do laundry were incredibly envious when they saw the huge carp and many crayfish in Zhou Haihong's basin.
"Zhou Haihong, you caught such a big fish all by yourself?"
“I didn’t catch it, that little girl over there caught it, and she even said she would give it to me,” Zhou Haihong said with a smile.
"A five-year-old girl catching a fish as long as herself? You must be joking."
"Are you saying this on purpose because you're afraid we'll come to your house to beg for a bowl of fish soup?"
“Zhou Haihong is definitely not a stingy person. If you go to her house and ask for a bowl of fish soup, she will give you two bowls.”
The group chattered amongst themselves, clearly not believing that Xu Qingmo had caught a fish.
After all, the two of them had just walked quite far away, and the rest of them were engrossed in chatting, so they didn't notice that Xu Qingmo had smashed the carp to death.
Zhou Haihong said helplessly, "If you come to my house this time to ask for fish soup, I really can't get any, since the fish isn't mine."
"We're not asking you for it, and you shouldn't hide it from us. We're all friends who came out to do laundry together, there's no need to play games with us." Someone's tone already showed dissatisfaction.
Zhou Haihong stopped explaining and started thinking about how to carry the clothes basin and the fish and shrimp basin at the same time.
Xu Qingmo walked over from the sidelines, carrying a four- or five-pound carp in her arms. The carp was still alive and was thrashing about in her arms.
Everyone present, except for Zhou Haihong, looked surprised.
