Chapter 16: First Business

Xie Yunjiao went with other villagers. If they walked to the town, which was almost 20 miles away, it would take at least an hour.

So they all went to the market together in the village Uncle Niu's ox cart. Each person just had to give some money. The others also went to the market, some to sell things.

The others were curious when they saw Xie Yunjiao carrying something. Hadn't they just split up? Was she already selling something? You really can't judge a person by appearance.

However, Xie Yunjiao covered it with something, so they couldn't see what was inside. Although they were very curious, they didn't dare to ask.

It’s faster to take a bullock cart to get to the market.

Xie Yunjiao picked a good time. Today was market day, so the town was very lively with people coming and going on the streets. Similarly, there were many vendors setting up stalls to sell things.

Everyone is going to this market.

After Xie Yunjiao arrived here, she saw that all the good spots were taken, so she quickly found an empty space and then took out the things she wanted to sell and laid them out, including the small things Gu Huai had hunted and sugar-roasted chestnuts.

Because Xie Yunjiao wrapped it very well, the chestnuts were still a little hot. After opening them, a refreshing fragrance came to my nose.

After arranging the items, Xie Yunjiao discovered a problem. Her location was a bit remote and there were very few people around. People who passed by took a look and then walked away. Some people didn't even look at her.

Xie Yunjiao was a little anxious, especially when she saw that others were selling land very actively not far away, but her place was deserted.

But this is no wonder, I have never been involved in such business before.

She saw that the vendor who had many people buying things took out some of the food for people to try, and only bought it after they had tasted it.

Moreover, the vendor was very enthusiastic and kept shouting.

It wasn't long before the man sold out and left.

Seeing this, Xie Yunjiao was very happy and immediately moved her things to that person's place. She finally got a good spot.

So she followed her example and took out some chestnuts for everyone to try. After all, she had never eaten this before and didn't know what it tasted like.

After she arranged the items, she also started to shout, "Come and have a look, these delicious chestnuts are soft and sticky, and very tasty."

Xie Yunjiao couldn't care less now. She might have been a little hesitant before, but now that she saw that it couldn't be sold at all, she became anxious. If it continued like this until dark, she wouldn't want to take it back.

This is her first time doing business, and she must succeed.

After she called out a few times, some curious people came over, looked at the chestnuts, and asked doubtfully, "Is this really delicious?"

"You can try it!" Although the cost is a bit high, Xie Yunjiao still knows that you can't catch a wolf without sacrificing the child.

If word spreads after people eat it, then the market will be opened up.

Although Xie Yunjiao felt distressed because some people just came to eat for free and had no intention of buying anything, she endured it in order to gain some popularity.

The man took one and tried it, and Xie Yunjiao's heart suddenly rose to her throat.

"How much is it?" After eating it, the man's eyes lit up, obviously it suited his appetite.

Asking the price meant there was something fishy going on. Xie Yunjiao happily replied, "Twenty cents a pack."

The man frowned and said, "It's too expensive."

Xie Yunjiao felt a little anxious when she heard this, and then she explained, "These chestnuts are good things and can be eaten as a staple food. Besides, I fried them with sugar, so the cost is relatively high."

Sugar was a good thing in ancient times, and it was very expensive.

Several people tried it, but when they heard the price, they lost interest.

Xie Yunjiao quickly said, "How about this, since you're here, we're destined to meet. Fifteen yuan a pack, you can buy one and take it home to try. I guarantee you'll become more and more addicted the more you eat it."

The man ate one and still tasted the delicious flavor, so he paid for a pack.

Seeing this, others also bought it.

Seeing that she had sold several bags, Xie Yunjiao felt better when she saw the heavy silver in her pocket.

The game was also bought by the servants of a wealthy family.

Seeing that there were only a few packets left, Xie Yunjiao finally breathed a sigh of relief. If these packets could not be sold, she would take them back and eat them herself.

It seems that there are still many rich people in the town. This makes things easy. She has a lot of new things, right?

Xie Yunjiao suddenly found her confidence.

At this moment, a man in a dark brocade robe came over. He looked to be in his forties. Judging from his attire, one could tell that he was a wealthy man. He was probably the manager or shopkeeper of some wealthy family.

The man walked over, picked up a chestnut, slowly opened it, and put it in his mouth to chew.

"Brother, these chestnuts are delicious. You can buy some and try them. I'm not lying to you."

The man looked at her, then pointed at the remaining bags of chestnuts and said, "They taste good. Pack the rest for me."

Xie Yunjiao's eyes lit up. This guy was obviously going to do something bold. She nodded quickly and said, "Okay, big brother."

Xie Yunjiao quickly packed up and gave it to the other party, as if she was afraid that the other party would go back on his word.

The man paid the money and left.

Xie Yunjiao looked at the empty basket and stood there in a daze for a while. She didn't expect that it would be so smooth and she bought everything in one go.

She looked at the sky and saw that it was not yet noon, so she packed up her things and went to the grocery store with an empty basket. She wanted to buy a lot of things for her family.

And with this successful experience, Xie Yunjiao wanted to let go and make sugar-roasted chestnuts, so the first thing she needed was white sugar.

In ancient times, sugar was very rare and cost twenty cents per pound.

She roughly calculated the chestnuts currently at home, as well as the chestnuts she would pick up from the mountains. She estimated that several kilograms of sugar would be needed.

She felt her pocket, then made up her mind and bought five kilograms at once.

Now she is determined to do her best and there is no turning back.

After buying the candy, Xie Yunjiao went to the meat stall again. She had made some money today and planned to buy some delicious food for Doudou to nourish his body.

"Boss, I want two pounds of lean meat and three pounds of pork belly." Xie Yunjiao said proudly.

As soon as the boss saw her, money flashed in his eyes, and he chopped the meat for her skillfully.

Suddenly, Xie Yunjiao's eyes were drawn to something under the table. She pointed and asked, "Why is this thing sold?"

The meat stall owner saw that Xie Yunjiao was talking about pig offal.

In fact, they don't eat this stuff because the smell of pig offal is too strong and difficult to remove. Basically, they just throw it away and don't spend money on it. Now, hearing Xie Yujiao's question, the stall owner is doing a favor and said, "You bought so much meat, so I'll give you this pig offal!"
