Wen Ge walked up to Wen Yi and took her hand.
"Sister, let's leave this at that. Please stop making a scene."
Wen Yi coldly stared at Wen Ge.
Wen Ge reminded her, "I know you're very upset about your grandparents' deaths, but it was just an accident, it was unavoidable, it was their fate. I didn't tell you because I was afraid you wouldn't be able to handle it and something like this would happen."
Wen Ge's words carried a hint of reproach, and Wen Yi naturally understood the implication.
Wen Ge meant that her grandparents were old and their death was in accordance with fate. The two elderly people were fine, but Wen Yi insisted on making such a scene, disturbing their peace.
"Sister, it's very wrong to use filial piety as an excuse to disturb the deceased," Wen Ge reminded her. "Don't keep causing trouble. If the coffin is opened in the end, do you think the old man will be happy? Do you think that's respect for the deceased?"
Wen Yi felt a pang in her heart when Wen Ge said her last words.
She could have taken her grandparents away and held a proper funeral to send them off on their final journey.
Both elderly people preferred peace and quiet and disliked making a big fuss. They also disliked the way Wen's parents acted. Even if they were to pass away, they would do so quietly.
When Wen Yi visited the two elders before, they mentioned that after they passed away, they would prefer to stay in the ancestral hall in their hometown until the time of burial, without the need for gongs and drums, or for any performances, such as the troublesome and boring rituals of filial sons kowtowing.
They just wanted to let Wen Yi, who was in the most pain, pass away peacefully for a while.
Wen Yi's current actions are somewhat contrary to the wishes of the two elderly people.
Wen Yi couldn't help but turn around and take a look.
Will her maternal grandparents blame her for this behavior?
Ben had already been in a car accident and was having a hard time getting out of the morgue. He could finally go back to his hometown in peace and be there quietly, but Wen Yi had to drag him here and make such a scene in front of so many people.
Seeing the emotion in Wen Yi's eyes, Wen Ge knew that her words had stung Wen Yi.
That woman was right after all. What a powerful older sister she is, who has never fought for or competed for any title for her all these years. She's just a fool, a self-righteous saint with a heart of gold.
It's most satisfying to poke at the moral vulnerabilities of these kinds of people.
Wen Ge pressed her advantage, "Sister, you take Grandpa and Grandma to their car first, then Mom and Dad will finish the banquet here and we'll go back to our hometown to send them off on their final journey, so that the two old folks can leave in peace."
Wen Ge squeezed Wen Yi's hand and sighed softly, "Grandpa and Grandma have suffered too."
Wen stood frozen in place, her eyes stinging with pain, her heart aching as if it were being torn apart.
Her most important family member.
Her most important family members were in the coffin, but she made the two elderly people suffer in order to take revenge on Wen's parents.
Regardless of the circumstances, we should let the two elderly people pass away peacefully. As for their reputation, or who is right and who is wrong, that is no longer important.
In this life, the dead are the greatest.
Wen Yi closed her eyes.
Wen Ge smiled slightly, turned around and looked at the guests who were still watching the show. "I'm sorry, my sister is a very straightforward person, so she does some things. But it's all over now. Let's end the banquet here. I'll see you all out."
Wen Ge gave her parents a reassuring look, then began to see the guests off.
Wen Yi, who had been keeping his eyes closed, suddenly opened them and stared intently at Wen Ge.
