Wen Yi stared at the information interfaces of Gu Huaixu and Gu Zeyu for nearly a minute before making a decision.
She replied to each of their messages, then went to take a shower and change her clothes.
Thirty minutes later, Wen Yi left home.
Just as he stepped out of his house, a black Rolls-Royce slowly pulled up in front of Wen Yi.
The car window opened, and Gu Zeyu, dressed in a simple white shirt, operated the steering wheel with one hand. The car was stable. Gu Zeyu got out of the car and walked to Wen Yi, opening the passenger door for her.
"I'm sorry, it was a bit impolite to invite you at the last minute. I'll make sure to invite you in advance next time," Gu Zeyu said with gentlemanly manners.
Wen Yi nodded with a light smile, said nothing, and got into the car.
She subconsciously reached for her seatbelt and buckled it, but when she looked up, she saw Gu Zeyu bending over.
Wen Yi asked, somewhat puzzled, "What's wrong with Young Master Gu?"
Gu Zeyu glanced at Wen Yi's fastened seatbelt and shook his head slightly, "It's nothing."
He returned to the driver's seat and started the car.
Wen Yi sat in the passenger seat, clutching the seatbelt, unsure of what to say, appearing somewhat reserved.
Gu Zeyu was driving, glancing at Wen Yi every now and then.
Wen Yi was already a little uneasy, and when she sensed Gu Zeyu looking in her direction, she became inexplicably nervous.
The two of them sat there without anything to talk about, which was very awkward.
He wanted Wen to start by saying something, but he really didn't know what to say.
If it were Ah Xu now, she would probably be lecturing her on endless, flowery language.
Thinking of Gu Huaixu, Wen Yi felt uneasy.
She unconsciously took out her phone, and the chat interface with Gu Huaixu was stuck on the last three sentences.
Wen Yi: I'm having dinner with Young Master Gu tonight, is it okay next time?
Gu Huaixu: Hmm.
Wen Yi: Okay, I'll go with you next time.
Gu Huaixu did not reply to Wen Yi again.
Wen Yi gripped her phone, feeling increasingly distressed. She mustered her courage and tried sending Gu Huaixu an emoji.
But the news went unanswered.
"Wen Yi?"
"Wen Yi, are you listening?"
Gu Zeyu's voice suddenly rang out, startling Wen Yi. She quickly turned off her phone screen and looked at Gu Zeyu with an overly nervous expression.
"Young Master Gu, I didn't hear what you just said. Could you repeat it?"
Gu Zeyu glanced at Wen Yi's tightly clenched phone without changing his expression and said, "I'm asking you, after we left, did your parents make things difficult for you?"
"No," Wen Yi replied.
Gu Zeyu looked at Wen Yi and opened his mouth, but didn't say anything, and continued driving.
The atmosphere inside the car fell silent and awkward once again.
"I booked a Japanese restaurant. Do you like it?" Gu Zeyu asked, adding, "That Japanese restaurant is quite famous in Haicheng. I went there once when I was doing business before and it was pretty good. I wanted to take you to try it."
"I'm fine," Wen Yi replied with a smile.
She looked out the window, her expression somewhat grave.
The car had arrived at the Japanese restaurant. After getting out of the car, Gu Zeyu deliberately walked around to open the car door for Wen Yi, and then tossed the keys to the waiter at the door.
The manager personally came up to greet us.
Wen Yi was walking quietly behind Gu Zeyu when she suddenly felt her phone vibrate. Wen instinctively thought it was Gu Huaixu replying to her.
She stopped and looked down at her phone.
The advertisement is not related to Gu Huaixu.
"Miss Assistant, I need you to discuss with Young Master Gu who he's meeting this time." The manager blocked Wen Yi's path.
Wen Yi was slightly taken aback, "I'm not..."
“She’s not my assistant, she’s my girlfriend,” Gu Zeyu said in the private room.
Gu Zeyu's words caused the manager and the other waiters to show surprise, and they all stared at Wen Yi at the same time.
Incredulity filled their eyes, followed by incomprehension.
It's obvious that they can't accept that the eldest son of the Gu family, a favored son of heaven, has such an ordinary and even unremarkable girlfriend as Wen Yi.
"I'm so sorry, miss, it was my fault for being so negligent."
The manager hurriedly apologized and respectfully invited Wen Yi into the restaurant, letting her sit opposite Gu Zeyu.
They then apologized repeatedly until Gu Zeyu sent someone to prepare the food, at which point the manager and waiters finally left.
Gu Zeyu poured tea for Wen Yi, "Don't mind, I often meet with business partners here. This restaurant communicates with my assistant to understand their preferences."
Wen shook her head; she didn't mind too much.
What I mind is...
"What you just said about me..." Wen Yi pursed her lips, looked up at Gu Zeyu, and didn't know how to express the rest of her words.
Gu Zeyu laughed, "You're saying you're my girlfriend?"
Wen nodded.
Gu Zeyu laughed even harder, "I could have said you were a guest, but I deliberately said you were my girlfriend to see their shocked expressions."
He spoke in a joking tone, implying that his earlier mention of a 'girlfriend' was also a joke.
Wen Yi felt a sense of relief.
But then she felt that Gu Zeyu's denial meant that, although he had previously expressed his desire to marry her, as Gu Huaixu had said, Gu Zeyu had not truly decided who to choose between Wen Ge and her.
Wen Yi put her phone down under the table.
The chat window with Gu Huaixu was still displayed on the screen, but Gu Huaixu had not replied.
Wen Yi couldn't help but send another message: Ah Xu, what are you doing?
The message was sent, but Gu Huaixu did not reply until the waiter brought the food.
He was angry.
"Do you prefer your wasabi a bit stronger or a bit milder?" Gu Zeyu asked Wen Yi as he prepared the sauce.
"Make it lighter," Wen Yi said.
Gu Zeyu personally prepared the dish for Wen Yi, then served it to her, adding salmon and tuna to her plate.
“Give it a try,” he said.
Wen Yi stared at the two slices of sashimi in front of her, her expression somewhat serious.
She took a deep breath, then picked up her chopsticks, added a piece of salmon, dipped it in wasabi, and put it in her mouth.
A pungent smell of wasabi hit Wen Yi's nostrils, along with the raw and fishy smell of salmon, making Wen Yi feel terrible.
I feel like throwing up.
But Gu Zeyu looked up at him expectantly, "How is it?"
Wen Yi swallowed it whole, enduring the discomfort, and said, "Not bad."
Gu Zeyu looked satisfied. "I knew Wen Yi would like what I like the most."
He happily placed a few more slices on Wen Yi's plate.
Wen smiled and lowered her head, then ate another piece of food in front of her. She then pretended to receive a message on her phone and replied to it.
It was actually a message sent to Gu Huaixu.
Wenyi: Ah Xu, do you like sashimi? I can't stand raw food like that, and I feel a bit nauseous right now.
Wen Yi: Ah Xu, how about we have hot pot together next time?
The message still went unanswered.
Wen Yi's sense of loss grew stronger and stronger.
It wasn't just a sense of loss; I felt an emptiness inside.
My mind is filled with thoughts of what Gu Huaixu is doing right now.
Is she ignoring me because she's angry?
Will he be waiting for me at Golden Deer Gate, or playing games alone at home, or at a bar?
Will he feel that her actions today are an act of abandoning him?
