Chapter 3 Young Master Gu proposes to Wen Yi

Wen Yi and her mother returned to their seats and sat down obediently.

Wen Ge defended Wen Yi by explaining, "Young Master Gu, I'm sorry. My sister doesn't go out much, so she was a bit impolite. Please don't mind."

“We’ve always known that Young Master Gu is very particular about etiquette, and my eldest daughter is rather clumsy, so we’re worried that she might make him uncomfortable,” the mother added.

Every word her mother said to Wen Ge revealed her lack of refinement and sophistication.

Wen Yi remained silent and sat obediently.

Gu Huaixu returned quickly.

He sat next to Gu Zeyu, and Wen Yi didn't dare to look at him.

Gu Zeyu said, "Now that everyone is here, let's get down to business."

Wen Ge lowered her head shyly, then nervously stole glances at Gu Zeyu, looking exactly like a bride-to-be.

"I am 28 years old this year, which is the age for marriage. The Gu family and the Wen family are on good terms. The two young ladies of the Wen family are my age match. A few days ago, I also tried to date the second young lady of the Wen family."

When Gu Zeyu finished speaking, Wen Ge became even more shy. She grabbed Wen Yi's hand, bravely raised her eyes, and looked at Gu Zeyu expectantly with her face flushed with embarrassment, waiting for Gu Zeyu to say the crucial words.

He said...

“During several dates, I discovered that my personality and Miss Wen's personality…” Gu Zeyu paused for a few seconds, “…were not compatible.”

Wen Ge's shy expression froze.

Gu Zeyu shifted his gaze to Wen Yi, "On the contrary, the seemingly reserved and taciturn Miss Wen is more in line with my expectations for a wife, so I have come here today to propose to Miss Wen."

Gu Zeyu's warm and mature voice echoed throughout the Wen family's living room.

His words stunned everyone in the Wen family, and the room fell silent for a moment.

The first to come to her senses was Wen's mother, "Young Master Gu, is there...is there a mistake?"

"I request to marry Miss Wen Yi," Gu Zeyu stated earnestly.

“Wen Yi is no match for Wen Ge…” Wen’s mother blurted out, “She is not good enough for you.”

Gu Zeyu frowned slightly, "I quite like Miss Wen Yi's non-competitive and unassuming nature."

"Can……"

"Mom!" Wen Ge hurriedly grabbed her mother's hand and forced a strong smile, "My sister is quiet and gentle, and she is indeed worthy of Young Master Gu's affection. Although I am fond of Young Master Gu, I will respect his feelings for my sister."

She said generously, taking Wen Yi's hand, "Sister, you must be happy after you marry into the Gu family. Forget the hurt that man caused you, okay?"

Wen Ge held Wen Yi's hand, smiling through her tears.

Wen Yi was struck by Wen Ge's words, which touched a raw nerve in her heart, and her body froze.

Wen Ge said to Gu Zeyu, "The reason why my sister is quiet and doesn't like to talk is because she experienced something bad in high school, so she has a psychological shadow. Please be more understanding of her when the time comes."

"Shadow?" Gu Zeyu frowned.

Wen Ge wiped away her tears and hugged Wen Yi, "Sister, the hurt caused by that man will pass. Don't let it become a shadow over your happiness."

Wen Yi's body was trembling.

The image flashed through my mind: the alleyway from high school, the scene of that filthy, smelly middle-aged man reaching his hand inside her clothes…

Startled, Wen Yi pushed Wen Ge away, causing Wen Ge to fall to the ground and break a teacup.

The mother hurriedly helped Wen Ge up, angrily scolding, "Wen Yi, what are you doing!"

Wen Yi trembled all over, staring at Wen Ge, wanting to speak but unable to utter a word.

Wen Ge held her mother's hand and said, "Mom, don't be like this, I'm fine."

"My sister must be so happy. Sister, Young Master Gu, I wish you both all the best." Wen Ge offered her blessings with a strong smile.

Wen Yi was completely stunned.

It wasn't until the cold, wet tissue touched the back of her hand that Wen Yi realized what was happening and looked at Gu Huaixu, who was squatting down in front of her.

"Sister's hand is burned red, be careful."

After he finished speaking, he got up and returned to his seat.

Seeing this, Gu Zeyu maturely realized that he shouldn't ask any more questions.

He stood up and said, "It's rather abrupt to propose marriage. Miss Wen, please consider it carefully before giving me your answer. I'll take my leave now."

"Young Master Gu, let me take you. My sister is a bit emotionally unstable right now." Wen Ge stood up.

Gu Zeyu glanced at Wen Yi, who was still in a daze, and did not refuse.

After the Gu family left, Wen Yi only came to her senses after being slapped by her father.

"When did you go and seduce Young Master Gu, trying to steal your sister's marriage?" the father questioned.

Her mother's voice was shrill, "Wen Yi, how could you be so vicious? Just because we made you marry in place of us yesterday, you went to seduce Young Master Gu and ruin your sister's marriage?"

As Wen Yi watched her parents scold and berate her, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

"Why are you crying? You seduced your future brother-in-law and stole your sister's marriage. What are you crying about?"

"Wen Yi, I really wish I could kill you!"

Wen lowered her head, hugged herself weakly, and instead of responding to her parents, she ran from the living room to her room upstairs as if fleeing.

She rushed to the walk-in closet, shrank back into the small wardrobe, and trembled like a leaf.

She wraps herself tightly in countless clothes just to gain a little bit of security.

But she could never forget that abyss-like alley, that filthy man, and the image of him leering and reaching out to her!

That year, she was only a sophomore in high school.

Wen Ge called her that day and asked her to pick her up. She insisted on taking the back road, and Wen Yi went along with it. That's how that man rushed out!

Wen Ge ran away in fright, while Wen Yi was cornered.

Although a passing security guard intervened and prevented the tragedy from happening, it became a shadow over Wen Yi's life.

The security guard was passing by because he heard that there were molesters on this section of the road, and that some students at the school were playing dares and being reckless, so he came to walk this road.
