Chapter 45: I don't know what's going on.

Wen Yi took a car back to his hometown.

Her hometown is Changyin Town, which is not far from the center of Haicheng City, about an hour's drive away.

Halfway through the journey, Gu Zeyu called Wen Yi.

When Wen Yi saw the caller ID, she wasn't particularly keen to answer and just stared blankly. Gu Zeyu hung up because no one answered for a long time.

Wen Yi was thinking of sending a message to Gu Zeyu after arriving in Changyin Town to ask about the matter and let it go, but just as she came up with an excuse, Gu Zeyu called again.

Wen sighed, knowing he couldn't avoid it, and answered the call.

"Wen Yi, where are you now?" Gu Zeyu asked.

"I..." Wen Yi looked out the window, "outside."

Where exactly is it?

Wen Yi tried to gloss over the matter, but Gu Zeyu pressed on, demanding the specific location.

"My hometown," Wen Yi replied.

"Are you already at your hometown, or on your way back? Are you going back for a short visit and coming back immediately, or are you planning to stay overnight at your hometown and return the next day?"

Gu Zeyu pressed on with his questions, asking very detailed inquiries, and his tone was quite forceful, leaving Wen Yi with no room for ambiguity, which made her feel uncomfortable.

I feel that Gu Zeyu's image has been somewhat subverted in Wen Yi's mind these past two days.

After hesitating for a moment, Wen Yi finally explained, "I'm going back to my hometown now, and I might stay at my grandmother's for a few days."

"I understand," Gu Zeyu replied. "You go ahead with your work."

Wen Yi was about to respond when the other party hung up the phone.

Wen Yi was puzzled, but staring at the call history with Gu Zeyu on the phone, she began to hesitate again.

Even if she proves that she is better than Wen Ge, her parents still insist that she marry in place of Wen Ge.

Yesterday's events made Wen Yi realize that the real reason her parents insisted on her marrying in their place wasn't because either of the two sisters was more outstanding, but simply because her parents loved Wen Ge and couldn't bear to see her suffer. They wanted to push Wen Ge into the position they desired—glamorous, radiant, and dazzling.

As for Wen Yi, he was merely a stepping stone to pave the way for Wen Yi.

So no matter how terrifying the Second Master of the Imperial Garden is, as long as it's not Wen Ge, it's no big deal.

Therefore, Wen Yi's desire to escape this substitute marriage is not simply to prove her ability, but to follow Wen Ge's path, marry into the Gu family, and marry Gu Zeyu.

Wen Yi silently gripped her phone tightly.

Marrying Gu Zeyu was the path Wen Yi had chosen from the very beginning when she refused to be forced into a marriage in place of another. However, now that she had made the decision again, Wen Yi was not as resolute as she had been at the start.

She looked at the passing scenery outside the window, but suddenly remembered that she hadn't taken A-Xu back to her hometown yet, so that A-Xu could see where she grew up and see her grandparents.

Thinking of this, Wen Yi looked away, trying to stop herself from thinking about Gu Huaixu.

She thought that her relationship with Gu Huaixu was at most a fleeting affair, not a deep love. Drawing a line would be painful for a while, but the feelings would fade over time.

After all, this world never dies just because someone loses someone else.

The car arrived at Changyin Town.

Wen Yi first went to sweep the graves of her grandparents, and then went back to her maternal grandparents' house.

I called you on the way, and when the old man heard that his granddaughter was coming home, he was so happy that he shouted to kill chickens and ducks.

When Wen arrived at her grandmother's house, she saw the old man squatting at the door, scalding the duck feathers with hot water and quickly plucking them.

Wen instantly felt like she was back in her childhood, rushing over, "Grandpa!"

Grandpa looked up and saw Wen Yi, then immediately smiled. "Weren't you going to your grandparents' graves? So soon... Hey, don't move, you're filthy. Come inside. Your grandma made some big meat buns!"

The old man was thin and dark-skinned, but he looked particularly happy with Wen Yixiao.

At the same time, the old lady's voice came from the inner room, "Is that my Yi Yi? Yi Yi, it's been so long since you've come home!"

My maternal grandmother was a chubby little old lady with a kind and gentle smile and a cheerful voice.

She was still wearing an apron and smelled of cooking oil from the kitchen, but when Wenyi was held by her grandmother, the smell made her feel especially at ease.

"Grandma, I miss you so much," Wen Yi said, sounding aggrieved.

The elderly couple hadn't seen their granddaughter in so long, and when Wen Yi said that, both of them had tears in their eyes.

The old man suddenly didn't want to pluck the hair anymore, so he turned around and sat down to smoke.

Grandma patted the old man, "What are you smoking for? Hurry up and get it done. It's rare for Yi Yi to come back from our family. I want to stew duck for Wen Yi and give Yi Yi a big chicken leg."

The usually quiet Wen Yi rarely acted coquettishly, "That's right, Grandpa, hurry up and make it, I'll help you. I want to eat a big duck leg, I won't give it to you."

"I don't care to eat it." Grandpa scolded, "You little brat, you make this old man busy with this and that as soon as you come back, and you're so picky about food."

Grandpa had already thrown away his cigarette and got back to work.

"Come on, Grandma's meat buns are fresh out of the steamer, come in and eat first." The little old lady kept pulling Wen Yi with her wrinkled hand.

However, just as Grandma was about to take Wenyi into the inner room, the sound of a car engine suddenly came from outside the yard, followed by shouts from the neighbor's house.

"Grandma Wen, your wealthy daughter and son-in-law are back again. This car is really nice."

The neighbor lady brought out her dinner to watch the play.

Wen frowned and looked over, and saw a black Cayenne parked outside the yard, looking particularly conspicuous. Gu Zeyu was the first to get out of the car.

Gu Zeyu glanced at Wen Yi in the courtyard, walked to the back seat of the car, opened the car door, and Wen Yi saw Wen Ge, whose face was pale, being brought out.

Xia Xiaomeng followed behind.

"Xiaomeng, why are you back?" Xia Xiaomeng's mother was the one who brought dinner to watch the commotion.

"I'm bringing Wen Ge back with me," Xia Xiaomeng said loudly, glancing at Gu Zeyu. "It was Young Master Gu who specifically wanted to bring Wen Ge back."

"Young Master Gu?" Aunt Xia's eyes lit up immediately.

Even though they originally lived in a rural town, everyone in the Gu family knew about them, especially the eldest son of the Gu family, who was considered a golden man. Whoever married him would rise to a higher social status.

Aunt Xia curiously stepped forward.

Gu Zeyu, with a calm expression, earnestly helped Wen Ge walk towards the courtyard of their home.

"elder sister……"

When Wen Ge walked over, her eyes were already red, and she was pale and unsteady on her feet, looking as weak as if she were seriously ill.

Wen instinctively stepped back, her face expressionless, but she was inwardly displeased.

She should have been stubborn and refused to tell Gu Zeyu where she was, so that they wouldn't have disturbed her reunion with her grandparents.

"Since you're all back, let's have dinner together," Grandpa said at that moment.

Grandma nodded, "Oh, right, let's eat together."

"Sister, can you come home with me after dinner?" Wen Ge asked Wen Yi with tears in her eyes. "Mom and Dad are very worried about you because you threw a tantrum like that. Can we go home tonight?"

Because of the luxury car, the neighbors all came over to see what was going on. Wen Ge started by speaking to them with tears in her eyes, which immediately aroused curiosity and discussion.

"Why did Wen Yi run away from home?"

"You don't know, Wen Yi grew up in the countryside, so he probably can't stand the life of a wealthy family in the city."

"Wen Yi is nowhere near as elegant as Wen Ge. I bet she's up to some trouble again. If you ask me, her parents should just be content with their lives. I don't know what they're up to."
