Chapter 296 The White Fox That Has Become a Spirit

After returning home, Qian Bolun, guided by the servant, went to find Qi Lan's maternal grandmother.

The girl stood against the corner of the wall, lost in thought as she watched the servant and Qian Bolun leave.

That familiar, eerie feeling again...

The servants walked very lightly, almost silently. There were two main reasons for this. First, to avoid disturbing the masters, they couldn't make a loud noise while walking. Second, most rooms in the manor were covered with thick cashmere carpets, so if they walked slowly and wore shoes with low friction, they wouldn't make much noise.

What Wu Yue found strange was that the maid's gait didn't seem like walking, but rather had a floating quality. However, she didn't sense any eerie energy, thus ruling out the possibility that she was a ghost.

-

The last time Qian Bolun visited this estate was five years ago. To his shame, he was closer to his father's relatives. His mother had never been very close to his maternal grandmother. Even when Qian Bolun asked to visit his grandmother when he was a child, his mother would always make various excuses to postpone it, and she never went the last time.

When his mother suddenly told him that his grandmother had called and invited him to visit the countryside, Qian Bolun was taken aback. He initially wanted to refuse, but then thought it would be a chance to relax and strengthen his bond with his grandmother, so he decided to go.

Unfortunately, Grandma wasn't as enthusiastic as I'd imagined.

Qian Bolun waited in the reception room for a long time, but Qi Lan still hadn't appeared. He asked the servants to urge her twice, only to be told to wait a little longer, and she would be here soon.

“Bolun…”

It sounded like my grandmother's voice.

Qian Bolun turned his head away, but before he could even smile, everything went black and he fainted.

"You're capable of harming even your own grandson. You're truly something else."

"I have no affection for my daughters, let alone my grandsons." This statement was cold and devoid of any emotion. It was as light as brushing dust off a trouser leg.

Another voice said hesitantly, "Among the group he brought, there are two who are very special. You should be careful."

"Um."

Qi Lan nodded. "If possible, the Mingshan Sacrifice to the Lord Formation needs more people, preferably those born during the Yin hour."

"I--"

The man abruptly stopped speaking.

"What's wrong?"

Qi Lan glanced at the other person with suspicion, then quickly realized something was wrong. She followed the maid's gaze.

Behind them, at the main entrance, stood young boys and girls.

"How did you get in!" Qi Lan asked in shock. "The door was clearly locked from the inside."

Yan Chiyu twirled a splinter between his fingers and said in a cold tone, "So it was you who set up the formation in the capital."

He was quite polite, using honorifics.

Instantly, anger rose from Qi Lan's abdomen and shot straight to his head. His aged face wrinkled into rippling water, looking strangely eerie: "Too much! Too much! I finally got that lord to agree to help me activate the Mingshan Sacrifice Formation, and you've ruined all the preparations! Aruo, grab them! Throw them into the furnace along with Qian Bolun."

"...Huh?"

The girl blinked, clearly surprised: "Are you really Qian Bolun's grandmother? Are you that ruthless?"

Qi Lan did not respond to Wu Yue's question, but Aruo, the maid who had been flitting about in the manor, had already taken action.

Aruo swept across the ground, his hand covered in sharp nails grabbing Wuyue's ankle. His head was tilted back, his face contorted in a ferocious expression, making him look like some kind of animal.

weasel?

arctic fox?

Wu Yue couldn't see it clearly.

Yan Chiyu swiftly threw out a talisman, and Wu Yue stepped back, nestling against the boy's chest.

"What is this?" Wu Yue asked curiously.

The boy coldly swept his gaze over Aruo, whose hands and feet were flat on the ground. "A white fox spirit, it looks like it's two hundred years old."

If she hadn't just revealed her true form, even though it was a fleeting moment, it would have been enough for Yan Chiyu to catch her outward aura.
