As Zhu Jin spoke, she glanced at the driver, then, as if remembering something, she raised her voice slightly, "Sir, you should take Mr. Cheng there first. Any further delay will make things worse. I'll stay here and handle things."
Despite his discomfort, he glanced at the female corpse on the ground.
The driver's teeth chattered. Hearing Zhu Jin say this, he realized it coincided with his own thoughts; he also wanted to leave as soon as possible. He nodded, walked around the front of the car, got into the driver's seat, and fastened his seatbelt before calming his still-shaken nerves.
"Wait a moment."
Cheng Pingxi was reluctant to leave. He had a premonition that encountering such a bizarre event might allow him to see someone he wanted to see. Even if he had nothing to do with the female corpse, he should still go to the police station to make a statement since he happened to be there.
"What?" The driver turned his head, looking bewildered. Mr. Cheng is a popular celebrity; is it really a good idea for him to stay here?
The boy forced a polite smile. "Sir, please wait a moment. As a citizen, I have an obligation to provide information to the police."
The driver had no reason to refuse; he was hired to drive. But inwardly, he couldn't help but criticize Cheng Pingxi—was he principled, or just meddling?
Zhu Jin, standing outside the car door, naturally heard their conversation. He picked up one of his fingers above the car door, as if to speak, but Cheng Pingxi stopped him immediately: "Brother Jin, please tell Director Bai about this."
Meeting the unwavering gaze of the young man, Zhu Jin clicked his tongue, wondering what Cheng Pingxi was up to. He could only reluctantly nod and walk aside to call Bai Xuwei to apologize.
Fifteen minutes later, police cars arrived with sirens blaring.
A tall, slender man stepped out of the car, a cola-flavored lollipop dangling from his mouth. His crisp police uniform accentuated his upright posture, handsome face, and energetic demeanor.
Through the half-open car door, Cheng Pingxi saw an acquaintance.
It's Chu Xiao.
He was the most strikingly handsome and flamboyant-looking guy in the police station.
The man's gaze was cold and serious.
"Seal off the scene—"
"Plan an alternative route to allow traffic to pass."
"Has the forensic doctor arrived? Let's do a preliminary examination."
"We'll take these people in the car back for questioning later."
"Yes, Captain Chu!"
Cheng Pingxi leaned against the car and raised his hand to greet him warmly, "Hi, Mr. Chu. Oh no, I should say, Uncle Policeman."
Besides knowing that Cheng Pingxi is Wu Yue's brother, Chu Xiao is also a modern young man who keeps up with the times and often surfs the internet. He naturally knows how popular this young man is, not to mention his recent recovery and comeback, which has garnered even more attention.
To avoid interfering with official business, Chu Xiao pushed the people inside and shouted behind him, "Old Yang, you take them back to the police station and wait for me. You take this car."
Upon receiving the order, Yang Lianhai quickly got into the car, closed the door, and then silently took out a small notebook containing case details. He turned to a blank page, smiled slightly, and said, "It's fate that we met. Mr. Cheng, my daughter is a fan of yours. Could you please sign an autograph for her?"
Having been humiliated by Director Bai, Zhu Jin sat in the passenger seat, pursed his lips, looked behind him, and said irritably, "Officer, please take us to make a statement as soon as possible. We have some very important things to do."
Yang Lianhai nodded: "Thank you all for taking the time to cooperate with our work."
Cheng Pingxi's gaze drifted through the car window to Chu Xiao, who was making a phone call beside the female corpse. A hint of anticipation flickered in his heart, mixed with a sense of nervousness and unease—he hadn't yet decided how to phrase it. He exhaled irritably, then expressionlessly took the notebook from the person beside him and quickly scribbled down a name.
Yang Lianhai's smile froze when he saw the name on the notebook. He frowned in confusion, "That... Cheng..."
"Mr. Cheng, are you sure you haven't made any typos?"
After being reminded, Cheng Pingxi turned his head and glanced at the notebook. The signature on it wasn't his, but rather…
"Hello? Is this little Wuyue?"
"I need your help with something. Come to the police station."
"Oh, right, your brother is here too."
Chu Xiao looked up at the fading clouds on the horizon, and seemed to see the girl's raised eyebrows. Her cool, slightly moved voice brushed past his ear like a refreshing breeze: "Address."
