"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Someone approached her from the side, holding her hand and trying to offer warmth. Wu Yue turned her head to look at the young man beside her, already retracting the words that had just slipped out.
She composed herself slightly and forced a smile: "Let's go. Let's find Xuanwu, Qinglong, and the Book God quickly, and then everything will be fine."
Bai Ze glanced at Wu Yue from behind with an ambiguous look in his eyes, but said nothing.
The old ghost found it somewhat amusing to listen to this group talking to themselves: "Young people, you want to go to the underworld? You can talk about it, but I won't allow it..."
Before he finished speaking, the ghost uncle stared intently at the scroll extended in front of him. It bore the personal seal of Yama, the King of Hell, and a black token for entering and exiting the underworld. This token was different from his; it was of superior quality, with the character "君" (Jun, meaning "King") reflected in its center. Just looking at it made this ghost tremble.
The old ghost was about to kneel down and pay his respects uncontrollably. In a daze, he realized that the people in front of him were not only ghost masters in the human world, but also distinguished guests from the underworld.
"Don't panic, uncle. They're just trainee ghost messengers and friends of King Yama. They're not high-ranking people and won't hurt you." Cheng Pingxi found the ghost uncle quite cute. Seeing him trembling and his soul becoming much more transparent, he quickly explained and comforted him.
Upon hearing this, Uncle Ghost immediately turned to the side, waved his sleeve, and a dark, swirling hole appeared beneath the tombstone.
"Please, everyone!"
Zhuque trotted forward and said, "I'll go first." Then she stepped in and disappeared in an instant.
Cheng Pingxi followed closely behind, while Bai Ze consciously stayed behind: "You guys go first."
Yan Chiyu did not refuse and led Wu Yue into the black hole.
After they had all left, Bai Ze turned to Uncle Ghost and smiled slightly, "Thank you for your trouble, Uncle." He looked kind and approachable. But Uncle Ghost didn't dare to get close to him, let alone the others; this young man was particularly dangerous.
Seeing the ghost uncle's troubled expression, Bai Ze quickly realized what he was—no, what kind of constitution he had. He hurriedly jumped into the black hole.
The ghost uncle let out a long sigh, wiped away imaginary cold sweat from his forehead, and then closed the entrance to the underworld. Reflection sat back on the stone tablet and grabbed a banana to calm his nerves.
...
Between the human world and the underworld lies a long, dark road, swept by howling winds and piercingly hoarse birdsong, yet devoid of any light. The ground beneath one's feet creaks and groans eerily.
Yan Chiyu was given a luminous pearl each to guide the way. He didn't need to carry it himself; Cuihua and Tiezhu each held one on one side, like the lantern bearers on the road, leading the two of them forward.
The Vermilion Bird could see in the dark and didn't need the luminous pearl. But she loved treasures, and when Yan Chi Yu Fang handed it to her, she stuffed the pearl into her feathers and galloped away joyfully.
The closer they got to the border of the underworld, the more low boundary markers appeared on both sides of the road. Some were broken markers left over from battles, and others seemed to have names engraved on them. They glanced at them quickly, not giving them much attention, since they were insignificant things anyway.
About ten minutes later, a light appeared ahead, and the grass swayed gently. Looking up, one could see a faint shimmering light among the grass.
"How can there be fireflies in broad daylight?" Cheng Pingxi asked, his eyes wide with surprise.
Yan Chiyu explained, "Although there is light, it is not daytime. The underworld is dark all year round, so this light must be the sky created by Yama using a magical artifact."
Cheng Pingxi, unusually, didn't refute, replying, "That's true. The sun is so bright, but it's not hot at all. It even feels a bit cool."
As soon as the group crossed the boundary marker of the underworld, a restaurant stood before them, its surroundings deserted and desolate. However, after trying countless paths to cross it, they reluctantly entered the restaurant and were all stunned by the scene before them.
