Chapter 1003 Heroic Rescue
When the scream came, Lin Wanrong had just finished eating the instant noodles she had cooked. She was stunned for a moment when she heard the noise, dropped the bowl that was not yet clean, and rushed to the living room immediately.
Banban panicked when it heard the noise and rushed in to find its owner.
The person and the pet quickly reunited, and at this point the commotion grew even louder.
Lin Wanrong held Banban, trembling, not knowing what to do.
Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice. She was startled, hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth and walked towards the door.
They had barely opened the door a crack when both the person and the pet were startled.
Outside in the corridor, many adults and children that Lin Wanrong recognized were running around frantically, crying and shouting, trying to find a place to stay.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.
Behind them stood a giant banyan tree, over ten meters tall, its shadows swaying like giant, dancing hands reaching out to the people scattering and running in the corridor.
When Lin Wanrong looked out, she saw an old woman who loved to gossip being entangled around the waist by a banyan branch, and being carried away while suspended in mid-air.
The woman was stunned for a moment, and after realizing what was happening, she couldn't help but scream in terror. Lin Wanrong trembled and instinctively tried to close the door.
Just then, a familiar voice came from outside again.
"Mmm, mmm!"
Lin Wanrong paused for a moment, then turned to look in the direction of the sound and saw Grandma Wang standing at the elevator entrance with a look of terror on her face, with one resident after another fleeing in panic beside her.
At this point, no one cared about respecting the elderly or caring for the young; all they cared about was how to save their own lives.
Grandma Wang was jostled by the passing residents and stumbled several steps, almost bumping into a wall.
That would have been fine, but at this time she originally planned to take her simple packed luggage and grandson to visit her son and daughter-in-law.
This sudden turn of events shattered their plans and also caused her grandson to be scattered in the chaos of their escape.
The child, not yet six years old, was suddenly separated from his grandmother and had no idea what was happening; he could only cry in fear.
Grandma Wang was eager to get back to her grandson, but she couldn't because of the crowd. Seeing that a banyan branch was about to reach the child, Grandma Wang finally couldn't help but tear up. She called the child's name and struggled to get closer.
Unfortunately, she was too slow and couldn't save the child in time.
At the critical moment, Lin Wanrong could no longer stand idly by. She rushed out of the house, grabbed the child, and tried to run back inside.
The huge banyan tree in the courtyard seemed to have read her mind. The banyan branch that was originally reaching out to the child suddenly slid to the ground and tripped Lin Wanrong.
Lin Wanrong lost her balance while holding the child, instinctively tightened her grip on the child, and turned her body to the side.
With a thud, Lin Wanrong felt as if her entire back no longer belonged to her.
A six-year-old child is quite heavy, and he fell to the ground so unexpectedly that Lin Wanrong was in so much pain that she couldn't get up for a long time.
The child lying on her cried even harder upon seeing this, calling her name as he sobbed.
Lin Wanrong was brought back to her senses by his crying. She knew this was not the time to be dazed, so she immediately braced herself and struggled to continue her escape.
Unexpectedly, the banyan branch that had tripped her suddenly lifted up, and its pointed tip, which had been reaching out to them, suddenly snapped open and thrust straight at the two of them.
Lin Wanrong's face turned pale, and she could almost foresee the bloody scene of the tree branch stringing the two of them together into a blood gourd.
She instinctively closed her eyes and hugged Enen tightly, vaguely hearing Grandma Wang's heartbroken cries.
Just when Lin Wanrong thought she was doomed, a figure suddenly darted out from the side and bit the banyan branch that was reaching towards them.
"Oh my god, that dog..."
"Where did this dog come from? Could it be a mutant too?"
Hearing the commotion, Lin Wanrong opened her eyes and saw her beloved dog biting a banyan branch, preventing it from getting close.
The dog's sharp teeth were almost embedded in the banyan branch, and its mouth, unable to close, kept drooling. This position was obviously uncomfortable, but Banban showed no intention of letting go of the banyan branch. In fact, an angry and threatening growl could be heard coming from its throat.
It is obvious that it is preventing the banyan branch from touching its owner; it is protecting its owner.
"Banban..." Lin Wanrong burst into tears upon seeing this scene.
Logically speaking, banyan branches are covered with a layer of bark, and the trunk inside is quite hard, so being bitten by a dog like that shouldn't cause any damage.
But who would have thought that such a small, short-legged Corgi would have teeth as sharp as saw blades, biting deeper and deeper with each bite?
The old banyan tree felt the pain coming from its branches and began to shake them, trying to throw it off the building, which was more than ten meters high, and smash it to pieces.
When Lin Wanrong saw this scene, she was so frightened that she almost jumped out of her skin. She struggled to her feet and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Banban, Banban... save it! Someone please help me save it! Someone please save my Banban, please, please save my Banban... please!"
Lin Wanrong's presence had already attracted the attention of the fleeing residents. Having witnessed Banban's actions firsthand, they knew that Banban had run out to save its owner.
Its current entanglement with the old banyan tree has also drawn their hatred, buying them time to escape.
It was this dog, which had been rejected by countless people who clamored for it to be euthanized on the spot, that helped them.
But in a situation like this, how many people would dare to risk their lives to stand up and save a dog?
Lin Wanrong looked around and met the evasive gazes of the crowd, feeling a deep sense of sorrow.
The commotion caused by the tree and the dog, along with the silence of the crowd, also gave Grandma Wang an opportunity to get closer to Lin Wanrong.
"Yeah."
"Grandma, waah..." The child cried even harder than before as he returned to his grandmother's side. Grandma Wang patted his head tenderly, not forgetting to thank Lin Wanrong, "Wanrong, thank you, thank you, if it weren't for you..."
Lin Wanrong stopped her, saying, "No need to thank me. It was Banban who saved us. While it's still relatively safe, you should leave quickly."
Grandma Wang was stunned. Just as she was about to say something more, Lin Wanrong got up and prepared to leave.
Seeing this, Grandma Wang quickly pulled her aside: "Wanrong, where are you going?"
"I'm going to save Banban."
"Save Banban? How can you do that? Didn't you see how scary that tree is? Aunt Liu and Uncle Zhang downstairs were just thrown down by it. Everyone is trying to get out of the way, and you're going to go over there? Isn't that just suicide?"
Lin Wanrong knew this all too well, but she still had to go: "Banban, Banban is still on that tree. It was taken away to save me, and I have to go find it."
