Chapter 1025 Why are you here?

Chapter 1025 Why are you here?

The emergence of mutated plants and animals has indeed brought many unknown dangers to people.

But since we are alive, we must survive. Most people need to maintain their lives through daily activities before they are attacked.

Although the staff responsible for the archaeological excavation of the imperial tomb, especially several senior members, were not among them, they did not heed the advice of Xiao Jihui's men to temporarily leave the imperial tomb after the incident.

"This is an imperial tomb that has never been recorded before, a truly imperial tomb. Do you know what this tomb means? It means that this is a civilization that we do not understand. The things inside may very well be able to testify to or even correct some of our current speculations, allowing us to know how people lived hundreds or thousands of years ago."

"What were those past glories like? Do the histories written in history books differ from reality? With the changes of history, how much wisdom and cultural heritage of the ancients have not been inherited by us? And all of these things that we have missed may find their answers in this tomb."

"This is not just a tomb; it is a treasure that carries the weight of history and civilization. We finally found it after so much trouble, and we were just one step away from uncovering the mysteries and puzzles that have puzzled humanity for thousands of years. How can we retreat now and abandon the truth buried beneath these historical relics?"

“I’m not leaving! I’ve lived this long and enough. Being able to enter this tomb before I die and see as many historical traces as possible is already a hundred times more fortunate than my ancestors. You can leave if you want, but I’m not leaving.”

"Yes, we're not leaving either!"

The staff responsible for protecting these people had no choice but to truthfully report the information to their superiors and Xiao Jihui.

Xiao Jihui felt a headache coming on after hearing this. He had grown up in a compound with his father and had met many similar seniors.

Regardless of their personalities, these senior colleagues all share one thing in common: they are always exceptionally stubborn when it comes to their job duties.

To put it nicely, it's staying true to oneself; to put it bluntly, it's being stubborn, so inflexible that not even a few oxen could pull one back!

Once they've made up their minds, there's no way to reason with them.

Since the other party insisted on not leaving, Xiao Jihui could not force them, so he had to call in other people to help and protect them.

This led to the accidental discovery that Ye Wanxi's name was engraved on the tomb door of the main burial chamber. Unfortunately, when the senior scholars were about to delve deeper into the inscriptions on the tomb door, a large number of mutated plants suddenly appeared on the mountains surrounding the imperial tomb.

Those responsible for protecting them dared not indulge them this time, and seeing the situation was not good, they immediately forcibly took everyone away and evacuated.

Therefore, when Ye Wanxi chased after them, the entire mountain was deserted.

Because it was a cloudy day, the cold mountain wind blew through the trees, making sounds like the roars and howls of animals. Combined with the fact that there was no sign of human habitation on this mountain and the clusters of graves on the neighboring hill that had not yet been moved, it was truly chilling.

Ye Wanxi wasn't afraid of any of this, and she didn't care about the desolation of the place. Following the traces of the archaeologists' retreat, she found the entrance to the tomb.

The moment Ye Wanxi stood before the tomb entrance, her heart skipped a beat for some reason. It was an intuition about danger and the unknown that made her instinctively raise the hairs on her body and her nerves tense.

She took several deep breaths to suppress the strange feeling in her heart before stepping inside.

They had only walked a few meters forward when a mutated plant peeked out from the end of the walkway.

On top of the thick branches is a flower head the size of a table, with sharp, fang-like teeth in the center.

"A man-eating flower?" Ye Wanxi narrowed her eyes and muttered softly, "How could there be such a thing in this place?"

Before she could think any further, the carnivorous plant rushed towards Ye Wanxi as if it had smelled some kind of delicacy.

Before this, it should have just been a plant rooted in the earth, so small that it was barely visible to the naked eye when it moved. But after the mutation, it possessed the hunting speed and lethality of a wild beast.

If those archaeologists hadn't evacuated in time, they would probably have become its meal by now.

Unfortunately, it encountered Ye Wanxi.

With no ordinary people around, Ye Wanxi attacked without any restraint. She first threw several lightning-summoning talismans, which rendered the man-eating flower powerless to fight back.

Before it could react, he approached it first and stabbed the center of the large flower plate with his sword.

In an instant, a stream of green grass juice spurted out. Ye Wanxi, anticipating this, dodged to the side, preventing the juice from getting on her in the slightest.

The splattered grass juice, when spilled on the ground, hissed and bubbled like some terrible corrosive liquid.

In just a short while, it corroded a small pit into the marble floor.

If even hard rocks are like this, one can only imagine how terrible it would be if this grass juice fell on a person.

The carnivorous flower, pierced by Ye Wanxi's thorns, struggled for a few moments before collapsing unwillingly against the wall beside the walkway.

The moment it fell, all the branches and leaves on the vine withered and turned black, and the flowers also withered, becoming utterly dead.

Ye Wanxi glanced at it, but didn't linger, and quickly walked further inside.

The entrance to the tomb chamber leads to a maze of corridors specially designed to prevent tomb robbers. Ye Wanxi brought a compass with her to help her find her way.

But once she entered the corridor, she found the layout of the place... inexplicably familiar.

Whenever I come to a fork in the road, I can choose the right path without much thought.

Throughout her journey, apart from the carnivorous flower she encountered at the very beginning, she hadn't encountered anything dangerous.

The entire corridor seemed to fall into a deep silence, with undercurrents surging beneath the silence, like the calm before a storm.

Ye Wanxi stood at the end of the corridor, subconsciously stopping in her tracks, listening to the sounds coming from afar in this empty passageway.

Suddenly, her ears twitched, and her hand gripping the sword tightened instinctively. She turned and slashed at a spot behind her.

With a clang, the sound of sharp weapons clashing was exceptionally clear in the silent corridor, and the sparks they produced briefly illuminated the dark passageway for a moment.

Ye Wanxi didn't see the person behind her clearly. After slashing down with her longsword, she followed her instincts and exchanged a few more blows with the other person.

As weapons clashed once again, a ray of light suddenly appeared in the dark corridor, allowing the two fighters to see each other's faces clearly.

"Junior Sister?"

Ye Wanxi was also surprised when she saw the other person's appearance: "Third Senior Brother, what are you doing here?"
