Chapter 442: Saving a Life
Ye Wanxi was completely unaware of the little incident that happened between Chen Maochang and Bai Limei.
Li Suizhi felt threatened because of her involvement in Qi Yanjiao's matter and wanted to bring forward the plan, but Ye Wanxi was completely unaware.
Of course, even if she knew, Ye Wanxi wouldn't take it to heart; instead, she would hope that Li Suizhi could hurry up.
After all, being too busy can lead to chaos. Ning Anquan was just worried about not being able to find fault with him, and his actions gave them an opportunity instead.
Sure enough, a few days later Ye Wanxi received a call from Ning Anquan.
Since it was something that had been agreed upon beforehand, and Li Suizhi had already become wary, this matter needed to be resolved as soon as possible. Ye Wanxi then planned to ask Director Jiao for a day off.
Ye Wanxi had only been on set for half a month when she took two days off, and she thought that Director Jiao would have some objections.
As soon as she mentioned it, Director Jiao immediately agreed. He even thoughtfully asked her if she needed two more days off so she could rest and not overwork herself.
If it weren't for the sincerity and flattery in Director Jiao's tone when he said those words, Ye Wanxi would have thought he was deliberately being sarcastic and ironic.
"Director Jiao, do you... really think that way?"
"Of course that's what I think." Director Jiao smiled, his face crinkling with wrinkles. "I've heard about what happened online. It's a good thing, a good thing that brings good fortune. I know you're sensible and you wouldn't take leave casually without a reason. I trust you on that."
Ye Wanxi nodded, acknowledging his explanation: "Then I'll be going now. I'll take a day off tomorrow, and I'll be back as soon as I'm done. I definitely won't delay the production schedule."
Ye Wanxi was about to leave when Director Jiao hurriedly called her back.
"Is there anything else?"
Director Jiao nervously rubbed his hands together and chuckled awkwardly, "No, it's nothing serious, I just wanted to thank you."
"Thank me?" Ye Wanxi pondered for a moment, then quickly understood why Director Jiao was thanking her. "Because...your son?"
Director Jiao's eyes lit up slightly, and he nodded hurriedly, saying, "Yes, yes, yes."
When talking about his son, Director Jiao was both frightened and moved: "When you sold me the amulet that day, didn't you specifically tell him to stay home as much as possible, and even if he did go out, not to go east?"
"He didn't listen to advice?"
When Director Jiao heard her ask that, he awkwardly touched his nose and said, "This poor kid has a bad sense of direction. He can't tell east from west, and he doesn't even know where east is."
Ye Wanxi: "..." She really never expected this reason!
It turns out that Director Jiao bought a lucky charm from Ye Wanxi that day and immediately had the child's mother send it abroad via express delivery.
Afterwards, Director Jiao called his son and told him that he must carry these talismans with him at all times. He also reminded him not to go out unless necessary, and not to go east if he had to go out.
Director Jiao's son is fairly obedient. He has been busy with his graduation thesis lately, spending all his time researching and rarely going out.
But there are always exceptions. Jiao's son went out this time because his supervisor had invited him out to discuss the progress of his thesis.
The place they arranged to meet happened to be located to the east of the apartment rented by Director Jiao's son.
Jiao's son has a poor sense of direction, especially when it comes to directions like east, west, south, and north. So he didn't pay much attention to this point and just followed his mentor's instructions without really understanding what was going on.
Unfortunately, just as they were about to reach the agreed location, Director Jiao's son was passing by a bank when he bumped into several fully armed robbers wearing sweaters and hoodies who were robbing the bank.
Because of his striking appearance, the poor guy who was just passing by became a hostage that the robbers were targeting.
“There is a time difference between foreign countries and China. When he had the accident, it was still late at night in China. His mother and I had already gone to bed. In the middle of the night, my wife had a nightmare about our son. After waking up, she immediately called him. She called him several times but he didn’t answer. She was very worried.”
“I was also a little panicked at the time, but I still comforted her, saying that the child was busy lately and couldn’t possibly be by the phone 24 hours a day waiting for our calls.”
Even though that's what they say, Director Jiao wasn't entirely sure himself.
As a result, the two comforted each other, but they barely slept a wink all night.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, the couple, who had been sleepless all night, finally received a call from their son with the news.
Speaking of this, Director Jiao couldn't help but feel indignant: "My son was inexplicably taken hostage, it's no exaggeration to say that he had the worst luck in eight lifetimes. But there was nothing we could do, he just happened to be in this situation. But what angered me the most was that when the kidnappers took my son and asked them to back down and leave, they completely ignored them and even fired a shot."
Ye Wanxi's face darkened upon hearing this. If what Director Jiao said was true, then these people had no intention of rescuing the hostages at all, and only wanted to kill the kidnappers and recover their losses.
This is far too cold-blooded and cruel, completely disregarding the lives of others.
Director Jiao clearly thought so too: "I suspect they never even considered rescuing the hostages, or rather, they never wanted to rescue my son. Just because my son isn't one of their own, just because the emperor is far away, we have to be subservient on someone else's turf. Whether we live or die, how we live or die, is entirely up to them."
Director Jiao became increasingly angry as he spoke, and this matter truly terrified his son and his parents.
You know, his son lives in a peaceful era. Even when he goes abroad, he always hears people say that there are gunfights in some area. But this is the first time he has ever encountered a kidnapping incident with real guns and ammunition.
Not to mention that he was the protagonist and the person involved in the whole incident. After experiencing that hail of bullets, it took him a long time to recover, only to find that three out of the five amulets he carried with him had been burned.
Director Jiao's son carried this amulet only to reassure his parents; in reality, he probably didn't really believe in such things.
The spontaneous combustion of the talisman shattered his last bit of hope. When he told his parents about it afterward, Director Jiao and his wife couldn't help but feel lingering fear.
Three of the five talismans were burned, which means they blocked three fatal wounds for his son. In other words, without these talismans, his son would have been hit by at least three bullets.
Given the situation at the time, those three bullets would not only have injured or killed his son, but would have also quickly rendered him incapacitated, making it impossible for him to escape.
At that time, his son will face more than just these three bullets; he could be riddled with holes!
Ye Wanxi could understand Director Jiao's complaints.
Dying far from home and being buried in a foreign land is a common occurrence.
No matter how good things are abroad, it's not your own home. In times of danger, you'll be the first to suffer as cannon fodder.
