Chapter 2: Green Tea Puppy, didn’t you think of me during the operation? ...

Shu Shu's questions came crashing down on Cheng Guo, so direct that Cheng Guo's mind went blank for a while before she realized it meant the same thing. "I didn't—"

“I know you went in early yesterday,” Shu Shu interrupted her, “and you even covered him with a sterile towel.”

What else could Cheng Guo say?

Cheng Guo shut her mouth.

I rubbed my ears, and certain images uncontrollably flooded my mind again.

According to her prediction, what she would see when she entered the operating room was a sleeping Chen Zhui covered with a sterile drape, with only the surgical area exposed, rather than a naked, awake Chen Zhui.

The moment their eyes met, Cheng Guo was stunned. Her gaze involuntarily lingered on Shen Zhui's bare chest and abdomen, his eight-pack abs as lean and handsome as ever. Then, she calmly looked away, glancing at the medical staff in the operating room who were noticeably more excited than usual, before heading to the instrument cart to put on her surgical gown.

The circulating nurse, surnamed Hu, was someone she knew well. She exclaimed in surprise, "Huh? Didn't I send you a message telling you to come ten minutes later?"

After saying that, he mouthed jokingly, "Come see the celebrities?"

Yu Guangzhong's deep gaze shifted over.

Cheng Guo hadn't noticed the message on her phone. She shook her head slightly. Xiao Hu smiled and came over to help her put on her surgical gown. They chatted for a bit about the car accident and emergency treatment that evening. As he handed her the straps of the surgical gown, he asked, "So, what about your blind date today—"

"Doctor, it hurts." A male voice interrupted Xiao Hu from behind.

Upon hearing this, Cheng Guo quickly turned around. Shen Zhui was lying on the operating table with an electrode pad on his chest and a pulse oximeter attached to his fingertip.

His face was pale from the pain, and his lips, which hadn't been wet for hours, were dry with clearly visible lines.

"And now?" the nurse asked him nervously.

Shen Zhui lowered his eyes and replied after two seconds, "It's nothing."

Xiao Hu exclaimed in surprise and said apologetically, "I touched your hand."

A doctor's hands must be kept sterile and cannot be touched.

Cheng Guo turned around and took off the surgical gown she was only half-wearing. "It's okay, I'll go wash it again."

The blind date topic ended there. Cheng Guo went out to wash her hands, and when she came back to put on her surgical gown, the anesthesiologist was chatting with Shen Zhui. After she put on her sterile gloves, there was no more movement from them.

He must have been knocked down.

Cheng Guo breathed a sigh of relief.

She was familiar with the next steps: the patient would be undressed, disinfected, and covered with a sterile drape.

According to her duties, she just needed to wait for the procedure to be performed, but for some reason, Shu Shu's words came to mind: the several young female nurses in the nursing department were vying to shave Chen Zhui's skin...

Although medical staff have seen countless human bodies, —

Cheng Guo blinked, and heard Shu Shu click her tongue on the other end of the phone, "Xiao Hu said you were really quick back then. The nurse had just taken off Chen Zhui's pants when you swished your sterile drape over him. Guo'er, I suspect you're trying to hog him! Do you have feelings for him too?"

Can you remove the word "也"?

Cheng Guo rubbed her temples, tossed aside the cushion, and sat up in bed. "...Am I the kind of person who's never seen the world? She's a celebrity, after all, and she probably doesn't want to become the subject of gossip. Okay, okay, I'll get ready and go to the hospital. Let's have dinner together tonight, muah!"

He hung up the phone decisively.

Is she the kind of person who has never seen the world?

no.

It's just that I haven't seen this kind of grand spectacle many times before.

Cheng Guo rubbed her face and got out of bed.

The procedures for cardiac surgery were not complicated. After leaving there, Cheng Guo changed into a white coat and went to the inpatient department.

In the afternoon, Chen Zhui was moved to a single room. When Cheng Guo went over, the door was ajar, and she could vaguely hear conversations inside. Out of politeness, she raised her finger to knock on the door. After a short while, a series of footsteps approached, and someone muttered, "Brother, I wash my feet every day," before opening the door.

Tall and thin, with a slightly simple mind, he is Chen Zhui's assistant.

The assistant was slightly taken aback when she saw her, then overjoyed, she called out, "Dr. Cheng is here!" and made way for her to enter.

Cheng Guo nodded with a smile, and after walking a few steps inside, she saw Chen Zhui.

He was sitting on the edge of the bed with a frown, one hand resting on the edge of the bed with an IV catheter in the back of his hand, the other hand lightly resting on his abdomen, and his feet sticking out of his sneakers on the floor.

The shoes looked like they had been worn for a long time, with a deep crease on the surface.

When Shen Zhui saw her, he was taken aback. His irritated brows gradually relaxed, and his hand, which was originally on his abdomen, slowly slid down to his leg.

Cheng Guo took a few steps forward, stopping two steps away from him, and asked gently, "How are you today? Still have a fever?"

Shen Zhui stared at her, his lips pressed tightly together, and remained silent.

The room fell silent for a moment. The assistant looked at his handsome artist with a sour face, not quite understanding. Didn't he ask if Dr. Cheng was there as soon as he woke up after the surgery? He was a little unhappy that he didn't see Dr. Cheng making his rounds in the morning.

Why are you not saying anything now that you see people?

He quickly stepped forward to explain that his fever had just subsided at noon, and added, "He wants to get out of bed and walk around now."

His tone suggested that he and Shen Zhui had a disagreement, and that he wanted her, the doctor, to uphold justice.

Shen Zhui frowned and then relaxed, looked away, and remained silent.

“It’s good that you can walk,” Cheng Guo said calmly as she glanced at Chen Zhui’s profile. From her angle, she could see his still dry lips. “After he passes gas, he can drink some water, rice porridge, or juice.”

"But his surgical wound is in so much pain—"

"Xiao Li, get out of here," Shen Zhui finally spoke.

"I--"

"Close the door, I need to have a few words with Dr. Cheng alone."

"Oh," the assistant glanced at the two of them a few times before reluctantly walking out. "I'll be right outside the door. Call me if you need anything, bro."

With a click, the door closed, and the room fell silent.

Shen Zhui sat on the bed, tilting his head slightly back. His slightly cold gaze met Cheng Guo's without looking directly at her. He stared at her quietly for a long time without saying a word.

He has striking features, with clear contours and a strong visual impact. When he smiles, he's radiant and his eyes are only for you. He'd give you the whole world. You can scratch his chin and pat his head.

When he's not smiling, he looks like this: a stern smile, arrogant and aloof.

This time, there was probably an element of spite involved as well.

Cheng Guo thought.

There was a pen in her white coat pocket. She slowly rubbed her index finger against the pen, maintaining her usual smile. Waiting for Chen Zhui to speak, she didn't want to waste any more time with him, so she simply began giving him post-operative instructions: "After appendicitis surgery..."

"Why are you pretending not to know me?" Shen Zhui suddenly interrupted.

"No." Cheng Guo put away her smile and answered after a few seconds.

"Then who am I?"

“Chenzhui”.

How old am I?

"twenty one."

How long have we known each other?

This time, Cheng Guo did not speak immediately.

Shen Zhui raised his head, pursed his lips, and looked at her, his Adam's apple bobbing very slowly.

Cheng Guo stared at him quietly for two seconds, her knuckles aching from the pen, but her tone remained gentle: "Chen Zhui, we're not in a relationship of reminiscing now."

The room fell silent, and the boy in front of her tightened his lips.

“Before I came here, I checked with your attending physician to understand your condition. All the data are within the normal range,” Cheng Guo ignored her inner sigh, quickened her pace, and quickly explained the precautions. “If you have any problems, press the call button to find a doctor.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the person in front of her suddenly stood up and took a step towards her. Perhaps his wound was aggravated, Chen Zhui frowned, his hand moved to his abdomen, and he stumbled and fell towards her. Cheng Guo quickly reached out to support him.

The 1.9-meter-tall boy's weight was not to be underestimated. He pressed down on her like a small mountain, his clear features getting closer and closer until only the lines of his shoulders were visible. Cheng Guo tilted her head back and tried to support herself against him, but she was still forced to take two steps back. Her heels hit the wall, and just as the back of her head was about to hit the wall, someone cushioned it with their hand. Then, a figure pulled her close, and she heard a muffled groan.

The IV catheter in Chen Zhui's hand...

Cheng Guo panicked and, while holding onto Chen Zhui, leaned forward to make him pull his hand away.

He was tall, and she practically buried herself in his arms.

The hand that should have been pulled away moved downwards, gliding over her shoulders and neck, over her back, and finally landing on her waist, tightening around it.

"Shenzhui!"

"Didn't you even think about me?" Shen Zhui asked softly, holding her in his arms.

Cheng Guo's heart softened uncontrollably, her cheek pressed tightly against the warm, damp chest, the faint minty scent of Shen Zhui filling her nostrils.

She took a deep breath, her tone unusually stern: "Chen Zhui, let go and sit on the bed."

The person holding her was stunned for a moment, then slowly let go of her, lowered his head and carefully examined her expression. Cheng Guo's lips were flat and she looked up at him. The tall boy, who was a head taller than her, completely let go of her, put his hands down by his sides, and obediently sat back on the bed.

Cheng Guo glanced at his now obedient face and commanded in a deep voice, "Hold out your hand, the one with the needle."

The horse obediently lifted up.

His slender fingers hung down gracefully, and a trickle of blood oozed from the IV needle on the back of his hand, spreading outwards along the tiny gaps between the tape and the skin.

Cheng Guo pursed her lips and tucked her curled fingers into the pocket of her white coat.

"Lie down properly, lift up your clothes."

"There was no bleeding."

"Does it hurt?"

Shen Zhui looked up at her. "It hurts."

"Then lift it up."

Shen Zhui obediently did as he was told, lifting his clothes to reveal his waist and abdomen, his gaze never leaving her face.

Cheng Guo didn't disinfect her hands or touch his wound. She just glanced at it twice and then pressed the call button to ask a nurse to come and treat him.

She kept a cold expression throughout and didn't make eye contact with him.

The atmosphere in the ward was somber, with only the buzzing of Cheng Guo's phone. When the person on the bed tried to get up, Cheng Guo said in a calm voice, "Lie down," and Shen Zhui immediately lay back down as if frozen in place.

Cheng Guo turned to the side and raised the corner of her lips slightly from an angle where he couldn't see her.

With a click, the nurse pushed open the door and came in, followed by Shu Shu and Shen Zhui's assistant.

The assistant was startled to see the doctor and nurses arrive together. He rushed to Chen Zhui's bedside, his face full of concern, as if something terrible had happened to him. "Brother, what's wrong?"

Shen Zhui turned his head away and ignored him, then glanced at Cheng Guo, who was eight steps away from him.

No response was received.

Shu Shu came in and examined Shen Zhui first. When the nurse was dealing with his IV, she stepped back to Cheng Guo's side and gave her a look, as if to say, "What's going on?" Cheng Guo pretended not to see it and turned off her phone.

Ms. Yu Muying called her twice.

He probably thought she wasn't fully awake when he hung up, but a little while later, Yu Muying called back.

There was nothing left for Cheng Guo to do in the ward, so she simply told Shu Shu to wait for her outside, answered the phone, and walked out of the ward.

Ms. Yu called to remind her to add Xiao Yuan on WeChat, saying that she had already booked a restaurant for them to meet on the 1st of next month, and that she would send her the restaurant address in a little while.

The address was sent over when the call ended. Cheng Guo admired Ms. Yu's efficiency. After glancing at the address, she turned off her phone. Turning around, she saw Shen Zhui's assistant standing next to her, and Shu Shu and the nurse also came out of the ward.

She smiled at her assistant and was about to leave with Shu Shu when her assistant called her back.

“Dr. Cheng,” the assistant cautiously reminded him, “my brother still has something to say.”

Cheng Guo put her hands in her pockets, looked up and smiled back, "I'm done."

He pulled Shu Shu, who was looking back, and they walked away together.

Also having dinner with us that evening was Ruan Ning, Cheng Guo's best friend and neighbor. Their mothers were close, and Ruan Ning and Cheng Guo grew up together. After graduation, Ruan Ning became a teacher, just like her two mothers, while Cheng Guo became a doctor.

Because of Cheng Guo, Ruan Ning and Shu Shu also became friends.

They had hot pot for dinner, at a place Ruan Ning had chosen, in an area they didn't often visit. Cheng Guoshu arrived first, and Ruan Ning only arrived late after all the dishes were on the table.

She jumped off the back of a black Ducati V4, took off her helmet, tossed her long hair, and kissed the owner after he took off his helmet before getting in.

Cheng Guo looked at him with a disapproving expression and turned away to eat her hot pot meat early on. Shu Shu, resting her chin on her hand, watched with great interest, saying, "The male students at the Film Academy are so handsome."

Ruan Ning's boyfriend is Zhou Nanyu, who is studying acting at the Film Academy and will be a senior this fall.

It was a hot day. When Ruan Ning came in, she first took a few sips of iced juice before sitting down. Cheng Guo picked up a piece of meat with her chopsticks and put it in her dipping sauce dish. She also put wide rice noodles, which everyone likes, into the soup pot. Looking down, she saw that there was also a piece of meat in her own sesame sauce dish.

The person who served her the meat was meeting Zhou Nanyu for the first time today and was asking her why she hadn't brought anyone in to eat with her.

Ruan Ning glanced quickly at Cheng Guo, who was eating meat with his head down, and said, "He has to rush back to pack his luggage."

"Do you want to join that film crew you mentioned last time?"

“The production team informed us in July that their dormitory building would be under renovation during the summer vacation and they couldn’t live there,” Ruan Ning explained while cooking vegetables. “We just moved our things to his classmate’s house today and are staying there while we wait for news. His classmate is a bit of a germaphobe and will be back soon after filming wraps up.”

"Her classmate bought the house himself?"

Ruan Ning let out a soft "hmph" without saying much. Shu Shu sighed, "Actors really make money." Thinking of Chen Zhui staying in the hospital, she rolled her eyes and tapped Cheng Guo, "Guo'er, did you notice?"

"No." Cheng Guo cut her off without blinking, looking down at the meat in the hot pot.

Ruan Ning laughed as she watched Shu Shu pout, then abandoned Cheng Guo, who was only focused on eating meat and seemed "boring," and started chatting with her across Cheng Guo.

"Let me tell you, we admitted a celebrity to our ward. What's really amazing is that this celebrity's clothes aren't as good as his assistant's. Take shoes, for example: the celebrity wears Converse, while the assistant wears Air Jordans, limited editions that cost over ten thousand yuan!"

Cheng Guo dipped a piece of meat in the broth and put it into Shu Shu's bowl, urging her to eat.

"Which celebrity is doing so badly? Or is their assistant's family too powerful?" Ruan Ning asked with a smile.

Cheng Guo treated her the same way, picking up a piece of meat with his chopsticks and urging her, "Eat."

He refilled Shu Shu's juice bottle and pushed it towards her.

Shu Shu hesitated for a moment about whether to tell him or not, but in the end she couldn't help herself, "I'll tell you if you don't follow celebrities."

"Mmm." Ruan Ning picked up the juice.

Shu Shu said mysteriously, "Chen Zhui!"

"Cough cough cough cough!" Ruan Ning turned her head and coughed a series of coughs, her cheeks flushed. She glanced at Cheng Guo and asked, "Chen Zhui?"

"Mmm." Shu Shu nodded. "Why do you think that is?"

Cheng Guo put down her chopsticks and took away Ruan Ning's juice, saying, "Don't drink it!"

Then she took away Shu Shu's juice, saying, "You shouldn't drink it either."

Ruan Ning and Shu Shu both glanced at Cheng Guo, who had three glasses of juice in front of them and was deliberately holding them up, her face clearly unwilling to talk about Chen Zhui. Ruan Ning took the initiative to soften her stance and awkwardly steered the conversation toward Cheng Guo, "Going to the cardiology department next month?"

Cheng Guo hummed in response.

Shu Shu asked at the same time, "What did you and Shen Zhui talk about alone in the room today?"

Ruan Ning's eyes widened, her gaze eager yet hesitant to ask, before abruptly changing the subject again, "So, do you still have time to raise a dog?"

Ruan Ning has a Samoyed, which Cheng Guo adores. She frequently posts pictures of dogs online and asks Ruan Ning to help her find a smaller one to raise.

"Forget about getting a dog," Shu Shu finally broke away from Chen Zhui's topic. "You won't get any sleep on night shifts in cardiology. General surgery has five night shifts a month, but cardiology has seven or eight."

"Let alone raising a dog, it would be good enough if I had time to date."

When the topic of dating came up, Ruan Ning had something to say and turned to Cheng Guo, asking, "Have you added that blind date guy on your WeChat?"

Cheng Guo watched with one eye open and the other closed as the woman slowly reached for her cup right under her nose, suppressing a laugh as she asked, "Did you add it?"

Ruan Ning finally touched her cup again. "I searched for his phone number, and his profile picture is a photo."

Seeing that there was juice to drink if they didn't talk about Chen Zhui, Shu Shu joined in the blind date conversation and got her juice back.

Cheng Guo recalled the other party's qualifications: University of A, PhD in Computer Science, teaching position at the university, 35 years old...

"Do you still have hair?" she asked.

"Yes, yes! Thank goodness, Auntie finally got my signal this time. It wasn't for nothing that I kept nagging her."

"This one's not bad looking?" Shu Shu asked. "Why did you mention it to Teacher Yu?"

It's no secret that Cheng Guo went on blind dates. The men she met were all PhDs, and their looks and heights varied greatly. In Ruan Ning's words, some of them were simply too much to handle. Getting married and having children would be a waste of Cheng Guo's good genes. She didn't know what Aunt Yu was thinking. She had such a handsome boyfriend when she was young, but her daughter was all ugly.

"I just asked Guo'er about her ideal type of partner, and I occasionally give her advice on what kind of person to find for her."

Ruan Ning got excited at this point, put down her chopsticks and started talking, "For example, Guo'er is 172cm tall, so the man can't be shorter than 180cm, right? It's best if he's 190cm, so the two of them look more compatible standing together. Fair skin, slim, clean-cut, but not skinny, he should have some muscle, even a thin layer of muscle is fine. Also, PhDs are prone to baldness, so try to find someone with a lot of hair. As for eyes, they should be dark and bright. As for personality, Guo'er's requirements are a bit stubborn."

Before he could finish speaking, Cheng Guo slapped his arm with a "smack".

Ruan Ning chuckled and continued, "She doesn't often refuse people, and she often swallows her unhappiness. So the other person has to be perceptive. When she's not busy, you have to take the initiative to be affectionate with her, and when she's busy, you can't bother her."

Shu Shu listened as she ate, her brows furrowing more and more as she listened. "I don't know about her personality, but as for her appearance, she's 190cm tall, fair-skinned, thin, with thick hair and bright black eyes..."

She looked at Ruan Ning, "What if you added a beauty mark under your right eye—"

Then he looked at Cheng Guo—

"Isn't that Chenzhui?"
