It was a little cold at night. When they walked to a house, they heard a dog barking. The barking continued until they passed by. Then he heard the owner of the house scolding, and the dog stopped barking.
After walking for more than ten minutes, Li Fanggui finally stopped and looked towards the lighted house in front of him: "We're home."
Chu Yanyan looked over there, then looked around. It was pitch black. Looking forward again, he saw the dark forest ahead. The surroundings were quiet, with only many spots of light where he was going back.
"Xiao Qi, where is Li Hexing's house?"
"He's not far from you, but he has turned off the lights and gone to bed. You can go check it out tomorrow when you have free time." The system's voice came.
Chu Yanyan understood and looked to the side. It was pitch black there and only the outline of the house could be seen.
"Go ahead." Li Fanggui's voice came.
"Coming." Chu Yanyan followed with the luggage.
Li Fanggui stood at the door, the wooden door was tightly closed, and he shouted inside: "Cuiying, I'm back!"
Soon after he finished speaking, a baby's voice could be heard from inside: "Dad. I'm...back."
After a moment of thought, a woman's soft voice followed: "Fang Gui, is that you?"
"It's me." Li Fanggui replied.
"Oh, wait a minute."
After the sound of small footsteps, the wooden door creaked.
The door was opened.
The person who came into view was a gentle-looking woman with a healthy complexion. She first glanced at her husband, then looked at Chu Yanyan next to her. After a few inquiries, she asked, "Is this the educated youth comrade?"
Chu Yanyan raised the corner of her mouth and smiled: "Hello, auntie, my name is Chu Yanyan."
"Hey hello, come in."
Liang Cuiying offered to help carry the luggage. Chu Yanyan walked in and looked around. In the middle was the patio, on the right was the hall, and on the left, in front was the room, with a tile and wooden pillars as the roof.
After they came in, the three children sitting on the chairs immediately stood up, looked over and called out, "Dad."
At the same time, he looked at the unfamiliar face his father brought back with an inquiring look.
Li Fanggui looked at his wife: "Where's Mom?"
"She went to bed first." The woman replied.
"oh."
The woman beckoned the children over: "This is the educated youth brother who came to our team. He will stay here for a while. From now on, we will be a family."
The three boys nodded and shouted to Chu Yanyan in unison: "Hello, brother."
Li Fanggui walked towards them, rubbed their heads, bent down and picked up the youngest one, then turned to look at his wife: "Cuiying, take Comrade Zhiqing to his room."
"Okay." Liang Cuiying nodded and looked at Chu Yanyan: "The room is cleaned up."
"thank you."
Chu Yanyan carried her luggage and followed Aunt Eighteen into a room on the left.
The woman was holding a kerosene lamp. She pushed open the wooden door, walked in, lit the kerosene lamp inside, and the orange light illuminated the room.
There was a wooden bed, a four-legged stool and a desk in the room. The walls were painted with yellow mud, and some walls were covered with newspapers, which gave it a very old-fashioned feel. The floor was very clean.
"The house is like this, I hope you don't mind." Liang Cuiying said.
"Very warm." Chu Yanyan replied.
"That's good." Liang Cuiying nodded: "Put your things down first, go wash your face and hands, and eat first. You can do the rest after you've eaten."
"good."
The staple food of the meal is sweet potato, and the dishes include potatoes, wolfberry leaf soup, and sweet potato chips. There is no smell of oil, only a burnt aroma.
When Chu Yanyan was a rabbit, he had eaten wild sweet potatoes, but they weren't as sweet when eaten raw as they are today when cooked. When he was hungry, he would eat anything he could.
After eating, Chu Yanyan carried a wooden bucket and walked to the well beside the patio to fetch water for a bath.
After taking a shower and changing into clean clothes, I felt much better.
After the kerosene lamp was extinguished, the room fell into darkness. After a while, moonlight shone in through the window.
Chu Yanyan lay on the bed and sighed, "Xiao Qi, the people here are so warm and simple, aren't they?" Anyone with a discerning eye could see that they really treated others well.
"Well, maybe the people here are nicer. It's hard to say if it's another village," the system replied.
"Oh, but they are so nice to us, why are they so hostile to Li Hexing? Isn't this a contradiction?"
The system was silent for a moment. "Perhaps it's because you're outsiders. They know you're educated youth, sent by the state. Li Hexing is a local, and carries a bad reputation. Of course, they'll exclude him if they can."
