Chu Yanyan was working happily this morning. Chen Feiyang was stunned as he watched Chu Yanyan harvest two more bundles of rice than himself.
During the intermission, Chen Feiyang's expression could no longer be suppressed. He secretly sat down next to Chu Yanyan and began to ask, "Chu Yanyan, what happened to you today? Why are you so active in working?"
As he spoke, he saw the white rice porridge in Chu Yanyan's lunch box and said with envy: "Damn, what's in your lunch box?"
Chen Feiyang's voice was so loud that it attracted the attention of the people nearby. He lowered his voice and asked, "Your uncle's family is so well-off?"
Chu Yanyan drank a few more sips without changing his expression, and said slowly, "It's not from that uncle's family."
"Whose family is that? Do you know where I live with Uncle Jiu? His wife is Aunt Jiu. How should I put it? She's a little off-kilter. She keeps saying she wants to save food for her eldest son to eat when he comes back, and she only steams a few potatoes for breakfast. She wouldn't let me into the bridal chamber at first, saying it was for her eldest son to live in after he got married. Later, Uncle Jiu found a place for me in the utility room. Sigh."
"And you know what? They agreed to let us educated youth live there because we could get more work points and more food."
As Chen Feiyang spoke, he sighed incomparably, then looked at Chu Yanyan's porridge, which seemed to contain pickles, and then thought of his two cooked potatoes this morning, one was as big as the sky and the other was as dark as the ground.
Chu Yanyan didn't sympathize with him. She said in a rather heavy tone, "You'll get used to it after living here for a while."
Chen Feiyang rolled his eyes, feeling that Chu Yanyan was insulting him. He pulled up some weeds from the ground and played with them in his hands: "You've never lived here before, so of course you'd say that."
Chu Yanyan uttered an "oh" without saying anything more: "Oh."
Chen Feiyang: “…” Thank you, I’m really angry.
Chu Yanyan had almost finished drinking and saw that the box was still half full. Li Hexing's lunch box was huge and she couldn't finish it all by herself, so she picked up the lid and poured some out, handing it to Chen Feiyang who was playing with grass next to her: "I can't finish it, drink it."
Chen Feiyang had been secretly blaming Chu Yanyan for not sharing his food. But when he heard Chu Yanyan's heartfelt words, he realized he had misjudged him. This guy could still be a brother. He quickly reached out and took the food: "Thank you."
"It's okay. If you want to thank someone, thank Brother Xing." Chu Yanyan said, not understanding the twists and turns in Chen Feiyang's mind.
"Oh, thank you Xing...eh"
Chen Feiyang was halfway through his drink, echoing Chu Yanyan's words when he realized the porridge wasn't right. He chewed the rice grains, swallowed them, and looked straight at Chu Yanyan, who was fanning herself with her straw hat. "Did Brother Xing make this porridge for you?"
"Yes." Chu Yanyan admitted.
Chen Feiyang's eyes lit up as he looked at Chu Yanyan's cute face, which didn't look yellow even from the sun. Considering how close Chu Yanyan and Li Hexing had been recently, he immediately understood the reason. "Brother Xing, he's so nice. Ask him if he needs a brother and what he thinks of me."
Chu Yanyan stopped moving his hands, put on a straw hat, picked up a small sickle and stood up.
No words were said.
Chen Feiyang understood Chu Yanyan's reluctance: "Don't be like this, isn't it good for your brother Xing to have another brother like me? Chu Yanyan, don't eat alone."
Chu Yanyan looked at the chattering Chen Feiyang, her dark eyes revealing subtle emotions. Her pursed lips moved slightly, and under Chen Feiyang's expectant gaze, she bluntly refused, "Impossible."
Chen Feiyang looked disappointed, but soon his expression brightened up: "Okay, I was just joking, don't take it seriously, and don't tell Brother Xing."
"Yes. Remember to close the box tightly after you finish eating." After Chu Yanyan said this, he walked to the unharvested rice field to continue working.
"I understand." Chen Feiyang said that he understood.
Today, many of the grains in this rice field are shriveled, and many vole holes are found on the ridges.
An old man next to Chu Yanyan cursed, "The millet harvest is poor, but there are so many rat nests. Damn it."
