Five days passed uneventfully.
On weekends, Chu Yanyan wore a white round-neck T-shirt and knee-length black shorts, and huddled under the carambola tree in the yard. He set up a small table and stool, munching on carrots picked and washed from the vegetable garden and placed in a basket, while listening to the system painting a rosy picture for him.
"After the mission is completed, there will be so many carrots that the whole room will be filled," said Tongzi.
"Is the carrot big?" Chu Yanyan asked.
"Big, of course they are. Each carrot is as big as you. I can eat one for several days."
"No, I can finish a carrot as big as mine in half a day." Chu Yanyan said, crunching the last bite of carrot into his mouth.
"Why? You eat even this small carrot so slowly." Tongzi asked curiously.
"Because the carrots get bigger, I will get bigger too," Chu Yanyan replied.
Tongzi: “…”
When Shen Qihe came in, he saw Chu Yanyan continuing to gnaw on a new carrot.
Seeing Chu Yanyan eating so happily, Shen Qihe couldn't help but feel curious. Is it really that delicious?
Unconsciously, he quickened his pace and walked to Chu Yanyan, picked up a washed orange-red carrot on the vegetable basket, took a bite, chewed it and swallowed it into his stomach. The curiosity on his face gradually returned to normal. It was bland and not as delicious as he had imagined.
"Brother, why are you looking for me?" Chu Yanyan looked up at Shen Qihe holding his carrots in one hand and two poles in the other.
Shen Qihe put the bitten carrot back and asked him, "Yanyan, do you want some fish soup?"
Chu Yanyan frowned when she heard about fish: "I don't really want to eat it. Fish has bones. The last time I ate fish, the fish bone got stuck in my throat."
The thought of encountering this the first time he ate fish was quite traumatic for the little rabbit demon.
Hearing Chu Yanyan’s miserable story, Shen Qihe felt a little distressed: “The fish soup has no bones. I’ll make it for you, and you will definitely not eat any bones.”
Seeing Shen Qihe was so determined, Chu Yanyan took a bite of the carrot: "Okay then. I want to eat."
Shen Qihe handed him a fishing rod and said, "Let's go fishing later."
Chu Yanyan picked up the fishing rod: "Okay, catch a big fish."
"Grandma, my brother and I went fishing. We're having fish soup tonight."
"Okay, have fun and be careful." Grandma Chu's voice came.
"Okay~"
Chu Yanyan was carrying a small cloth bag containing a few carrots and a plastic bag for fish. She was wearing a straw hat and small slippers, and she was skipping behind Shen Qihe.
June season.
Rice has been planted in the south, and the fields are now lush green.
The fields outside their town are contracted by the government to large business owners for collective farming. They earn a profit from the land every year, and they usually make money by making breakfast and selling fruits and vegetables. Those who can afford it can also work in the machinery factory in town, which is local and easy to commute to.
Chu Yanyan sat at the edge of the bamboo forest and looked at the fields not far away. Her teeth moved. There was so much fresh grass. She didn't know whether the grass tasted good or not.
He turned his head to look at Shen Qihe who was squatting next to the bamboo. He walked over in small steps and watched Shen Qihe push aside the withered and yellow bamboo leaves, holding a small iron shovel and shoveling away the soil on top. Under the fertile soil, it was easy to see many earthworms.
He squatted beside Shen Qihe and watched Shen Qihe pick up an earthworm and put it directly on the fishhook.
Noticing that Chu Yanyan was looking at him, Shen Qihe had a bad idea and placed the still-twisting earthworm in front of Chu Yanyan: "Are you scared?"
"Don't be afraid." Chu Yanyan reached out and touched it, sighing, "The quality and size of the radishes I grow all depend on it. Without earthworms, the radishes won't taste good."
"Oh." Shen Qihe retracted it, threw it into the pond, and after fixing it, he began to play with Chu Yanyan's hook and asked Chu Yanyan: "Yanyan, why do you like eating carrots so much?"
"Because radishes are delicious." Chu Yanyan's eyes lit up when talking about carrots.
Shen Qihe looked at his cute appearance and jokingly said, "What a rabbit spirit."
"Hey, I'm going fishing." Chu Yanyan took the fishing rod that Shen Qihe gave him, walked to the other side, cast the hook out, and sat aside. He reached into the water to wash his hands, then sat upright, holding the fishing rod at one end, his eyes staring at the pond, his mind working frantically.
"Did Shen Qihe really discover my identity?"
"What should I do? Will he call the police and have me arrested?"
"Oh, what should I do, Xiaoqi?"
Shen Qihe just asked casually. Chu Yanyan thought that Shen Qihe had realized his identity, so he quickly called Tongzi. After Tongzi's repeated assurances, he finally felt relieved.
'It turns out Shen Qihe was joking.'
Chu Yanyan looked at the foam without any movement, holding it with one hand, and reached into the cloth bag with the other hand, taking out a carrot. He turned his head to look at Shen Qihe next to him, and raised the carrot in his hand: "Brother, do you want to eat it?"
Shen Qihe looked over and said, "No, eat by yourself and don't get too close to the river." As he said that, he put down his fishing rod and walked towards Chu Yanyan.
"oh."
After Shen Qihe adjusted Chu Yanyan's position, he walked back to where he was. His hand still had the soft touch of Chu Yanyan's waist that he had just touched. A hint of unnaturalness appeared on the young man's face, and the tips of his ears were slightly red.
Unfortunately, Chu Yanyan, who was only thinking about carrots, didn't notice Shen Qihe's performance.
As the summer breeze blows, the slender bamboo leaves rustle and the bamboos collide with each other, making crisp sounds.
