Fu Chengyi tried his best to hide the soreness in his voice: "If you insist on canceling the engagement, then I respect your decision."
Fu Hange turned around abruptly to look at him, her eyes filled with disbelief.
He agreed.
Fu Hange knew that ultimately she was the one who wronged him, just like with Gu Yuan—he didn't love her, but she used to want to marry him.
After they finished talking, Xu Haicang went in and was furious when he heard Fu Chengyi say that the engagement was to be canceled.
He scolded Fu Hange: "Yan Yan, I'm not joking with you, but your brother's incident caused quite a stir last time. If you don't use this incident to suppress the media, the Xu family might be finished again!"
Fu Hange's anger, which she had been holding back all day, exploded at this moment. She frowned and said coldly, "You only ever think about interests. Do you know how painful it is for Xu Yi to marry Liu Yunqi, a woman he doesn't love?"
Xu Haicang, his face full of anxiety, explained, "These two things are different. Xiao Fu truly loves you, so you will definitely be happy with him."
Fu Hange slung her bag over her shoulder and said coldly, "Whether I'm happy or not is something only I know. You don't need to worry about it."
After saying that, she strode away. This place, so full of self-interest, really annoyed her.
Fu Hange took a taxi back to the hotel. As soon as she put her things down, she felt her stomach protesting. She subconsciously touched it and then opened her phone to order takeout.
She definitely can't cook; she'd burn the kitchen down if she didn't.
To her surprise, the takeout was delayed. Fu Hange called to urge them, and the person on the other end said that the bill had already been paid.
She stared at her phone, completely bewildered. The bill was paid? She hadn't paid yet, so how could it be paid already?
The phone rang, and Fu Hange quickly answered it.
"I'll give you five minutes. I'll be waiting for you downstairs at the hotel. If you're not here in five minutes, you can forget about dinner tonight."
Gu Yuan?!
It was definitely his voice; even with damaged vocal cords, she could still recognize it.
Before she could speak, Gu Yuan hung up the phone, and a busy tone came from the other end.
Fu Hange put on her shoes and then hastily grabbed a coat and put it on.
Sure enough, at the hotel entrance, a man in a black suit stood out dazzlingly in the afterglow. His figure was particularly striking, with long, slender legs that appeared exceptionally tall and straight. His handsome face was flawless, and he stood in the crowd like a king, inspiring admiration from everyone.
Fu Hange tentatively walked up to him and asked, "What's wrong? Did you sabotage my takeout?"
"You'll find out once you get in the car with me." He said coldly as he took Fu Hange's hand.
He then shoved her into the passenger seat and went around to fasten her seatbelt. The moment Gu Yuan leaned in, Fu Hange could clearly feel her heart pounding and every cell in her body going wild.
She could smell the faint, refreshing fragrance emanating from Gu Yuan.
"Where are you taking me?" Fu Hange asked, tilting her head to look at him.
Gu Yuan seemed to be deliberately keeping her in suspense, saying, "I told you, you'll know when you get there."
Are you suggesting we take her to the Civil Affairs Bureau to complete the procedures now? That would be quite a commotion.
Gu Yuan did not go to the Civil Affairs Bureau as Fu Hange had suggested. Instead, he drove his car through the bustling city center, where it was completely dark and the nightlife was just beginning.
More than ten minutes later—
"Get out of the car," Gu Yuan ordered.
Fu Hange was a little unfamiliar with her surroundings. She gripped her bag tightly and descended step by step.
