Not a good person

Not a good person

Wen Ya was stunned by the fall. She was completely embraced by Si Mucheng. She felt his weight, struggled a little, but found that she couldn't move at all.

"you……"

"There's a ghost!" Si Mucheng buried his face in Wen Ya's neck, his hot breath tickling her bare skin as he spoke.

She rubbed against him uncomfortably, and Si Mucheng, thinking she was comforting him, hugged her even tighter.

Wen Ya quickly glanced around and then saw a squirrel on a nearby tree staring at them curiously with its beady black eyes. The squirrel lost interest and quickly scurried down to the next tree.

She sighed: "There are no ghosts."

"But I just saw a dark shadow..." Si Mucheng didn't dare to look up, but the force in his hand did not loosen.

Unable to bear it any longer, Wen Ya struggled free and punched Si Mucheng hard on the head: "Let go of me!"

Si Mucheng cried out in pain, quickly got up, and covered his head.

Without the pressure, Wen Ya felt much more relaxed. She sat up, rubbed her elbow which had just hurt, and felt the veins on her forehead throbbing.

"Really not?" Si Mucheng covered his head, blinking his wet, puppy-dog eyes, looking pitiful.

Wen Ya's initial anger turned into helplessness: "...No."

Knowing he was in the wrong, Si Mucheng quickly went to help Wen Ya, who was still sitting in the flower bushes.

The once lush flowerbed was flattened by the two of them, forming a human shape. Wen Ya's long hair was still covered with leaves, making her look rather unseemly.

"I'm so sorry, Master." Si Mucheng scratched his head, feeling quite embarrassed.

Just as Wen Ya was about to speak, she suddenly felt several gazes. Looking in the direction they were looking, she saw two old ladies staring at them with intriguing eyes. Judging from their appearance, they must have also come down from the hillside park.

After a brief standoff, the old ladies exchanged glances, shook their heads, and walked away, muttering under their breath, "Tsk tsk, these young people nowadays."

"How shameless! It's not even dark yet."

"Well, why are you in such a hurry?"

Wen Ya: ...

She glared at Si Mucheng, ignored him, and strode away.

Si Mucheng pursed his lips, not daring to utter a sound. But as he watched Wen Ya's figure grow further and further away, he suddenly snapped back to reality, looked around, and, still feeling afraid, quickly ran after her.

With Zhang Wei's matter finally resolved, Si Mucheng felt relieved and ate an extra bowl of rice that evening.

Seeing this, Aunt Chen couldn't help but tease, "What's wrong with you today? Are you going to grow taller again?"

Si Mucheng waved his hand in a good mood, said nothing, and then began to wolf down his food.

Aunt Chen glared at him reproachfully, then quickly put the last piece of rib on Wen Ya's plate: "Xiao Ya, eat quickly, that guy is starving like a reincarnated ghost, if you don't eat now, there won't be any left."

Si Mucheng exclaimed, "Aunt Chen, you're so biased!"

Aunt Chen laughed: "Alright, I'll swallow it back."

Wen Ya looked around at the harmonious scene and swallowed her words of farewell.

That evening, Si Mucheng was very excited and told Wen Ya that he would be the host the next day and take her out to play, asking her if there was any place she wanted to go.

"You came here when you were little, so you probably didn't go out to play much. Qicheng has developed quite a bit; it must be very different from what you remember. By the way, have you ever been to an aquarium? Shall I take you to see the polar bears?"

Wen Ya looked at her superior, Mu Cheng, with expectant eyes, but the words stuck in her throat.

After regaining her senses, she couldn't help but laugh at herself, wondering when she had become so indecisive.

After seeing Si Mucheng off, Wen Ya returned to her room, packed her meager belongings, and turned around to see Wen Xiaofeng nestled on the windowsill watching her. Wen Ya went over and patted its head.

She planned to visit Zhao Wentian tomorrow to clarify the matter of the Soul-Returning Lamp. Zhao Wentian's great-grandfather was a senior figure in the industry, already 127 years old, and looked very robust. There were rumors that Old Master Zhao had found the secret to cultivation, and he was now practically a demigod.

The longer one lives, the more knowledgeable one becomes. If the exorcists encounter any difficulties in the process of exorcising ghosts and spirits, they will usually go to the Zhao family for help.

Wen Ya took out the Soul-Returning Lamp from the cloth bag. The palm-sized copper lamp was very quiet at this moment. If it weren't for the light shining from the lotus petals, it would have been no different from before.

Wen Ya stared intently at the source of the light, feeling something was amiss. She had examined the lamp many times when it malfunctioned earlier. The petals were fine before; the problem was with the wick. The center of the flower was the wick, and the light it emitted flickered.

Now, a patch of lotus petals lit up, but Wen Ya didn't know why.

If she couldn't figure it out, she decided to stop thinking about it; she was going to the Zhao family's house anyway. So she put the lamp away again.

Nothing happened that night.

The next day, Wen Ya thought that she should still say goodbye to the host family no matter what, so she waited until Si Mucheng's parents got up and came downstairs for breakfast before she said her goodbye seriously.

Si Licheng simply nodded, but Chen Hui and Aunt Chen were both a little reluctant to let them go: "Won't you stay a couple more days?"

Wen Ya said, "I'm already very sorry to have bothered you for so long."

Chen Hui then asked, "Is everything done?"

Wen Ya didn't want to say more, so she just nodded.

As they were talking, Si Mucheng came downstairs yawning, his hair a mess, and the others couldn't help but turn to look at him.

Si Mucheng just smiled, "Everyone's up so early..." Suddenly his gaze fell on Wen Ya's duffel bag at her feet, and his pupils immediately widened, "Great God, you're leaving??"

His keen insight saved Wen Ya a lot of trouble. She looked up at him slightly and said, "Yes."

"You!" Si Mucheng strode over and said anxiously, "Didn't we agree yesterday that I'd take you out to play today?!"

"I did not agree."

Si Mucheng was taken aback upon hearing this. Indeed, it was all his own words; Wen Ya hadn't agreed to anything. From the very beginning, it had all been wishful thinking on his part.

Seeing that the two still had something to say and that it was almost time, Si Licheng and Chen Hui got up to leave. Before leaving, Chen Hui reminded Si Mucheng, "Xiao Cheng, don't force things. You're a boy, so be more magnanimous. See Xiao Ya off later."

Wen Ya bowed her head in gratitude.

Aunt Chen glanced at the scene, then left the dining area to the two children and went to the kitchen to get busy.

"Where...where are you going?" Si Mucheng looked down at her, his eyes filled with tears, which inexplicably reminded Wen Ya of stray dogs abandoned on the roadside.

She said calmly, "Let's go find Zhao Wentian first."

Si Mucheng's eyes lit up: "I'll go with you, Brother Zhao told me to go visit him!"

"Si Mucheng." Wen Ya suddenly called his name; this was the first time she had called him so seriously.

Si Mucheng immediately shut his mouth and stared at her without blinking.

“You’re not a Taoist priest, exorcisms have nothing to do with you, you don’t need to get involved.” Wen Ya looked at him. “Just live your life. We were never meant to be together.”

Si Mucheng's expression went blank for a moment. He thought, "As expected of Wen Ya, her words are really harsh..." But he wasn't buying it at all.

"No, I'm afraid of ghosts!" Si Mucheng said matter-of-factly. "You... why don't you draw me a talisman so I can't see ghosts?"

Wen Ya thought to herself, "You're really stubborn."

She suppressed the urge to sigh: "I only know talismans that can make you see ghosts. Do you think everyone has the ability to see ghosts? Celestial masters usually rely on their own skills and use all sorts of magical artifacts to try to see ghosts."

"I don't care," Si Mucheng said pitifully, his face contorted with worry. "I'm just scared..."

"Don't be unreasonable."

Wen Ya didn't want to say more to him, so she picked up her bag and was about to leave. Si Mucheng was caught off guard and hadn't changed his clothes yet. He hurriedly said, "Hey, wait a minute! If you can't, I'll take you to Brother Zhao's place!" He then ran upstairs to get his clothes.

Wen Ya went out the door, and the sound of flapping wings grew louder as it approached. Then Wen Xiaofeng flew over and perched on her shoulder.

She looked around. Having lived here and gone out with Si Mucheng for some time, she had gotten to know the way around. She had to walk out of the villa area and then wander around the neighborhood before she could reach the roadside where there was a car to take.

Si Mucheng caught up with her just as she finished walking up the long slope and turned into the next intersection.

Wen Ya glanced at him. This person was quite efficient. In just a few minutes, he had already become quite the expert.

"Actually, it's no use you following me. I won't be staying in Qicheng for long." Her tone was calm, but it had a hint of persuasion in it.

This time, Si Mucheng simply put his hands in his pockets, looked straight ahead, and revealed a hint of arrogance in his profile: "I didn't follow you. I went to find Brother Zhao. He told me to go to the Taoist temple to visit him."

"Alright then." Wen Ya looked away and shut her mouth.

The two eventually found themselves on the same path again.

Si Mucheng's ride-hailing car was already waiting by the roadside. Wen Ya usually went out by public transportation or walking, and she was too busy using her phone to do anything but make calls and send messages, so she had never used a ride-hailing car before. She watched as Si Mucheng got into the car, and just as she was pondering, she saw him roll down the window and invite her with a mischievous smile: "We're going the same way anyway, why don't you condescend to ride in the same car as me, great god?"

While Wen Ya was still thinking, the driver called out, "Hey, I don't carry poultry! If you're bringing chickens, don't get on."

Si Mucheng glanced at Wen Xiaofeng and thought, "Oh no, I forgot about that. Should I cancel the order? Or should I call Lalamove?"

He was about to get out of the car when Wen Ya said expressionlessly, "Oh, this is a toy."

Si Mucheng: ?

He looked at Wen Xiaofeng and saw that the colorful white-feathered chicken was motionless, not even blinking, its feathers trembling slightly in the wind.

I must say, it really does look like a doll.

The driver looked closely and felt he had just seen the chicken move, but now it hadn't moved at all; it really was just a toy. He scratched his cheek and said awkwardly, "Oh, okay, get on then." As if trying to make amends, he muttered, "Why would anyone wear a toy like that on their shoulder?"

Wen Ya didn't say anything, she just silently got into the car.

The car slowly drove towards Yuhuang Mountain in the east of the city.

The only sound inside the car was the occasional beeping of the driver's phone navigation. Si Mucheng looked at Wen Xiaofeng with great curiosity, wondering what was wrong with her, when he saw her eyes dart around and wink at him.

"Humorous!" Si Mucheng laughed. "Has this thing become a spirit? It's so funny!"

Hearing the noise, Wen Ya glanced at him with a strange look in her eyes.

Si Mucheng leaned forward, threatening with a grin: "Master, if you don't let me follow you, I'll report you to the driver and kick you off the bus."

Wen Ya slowly turned her head to look at him, speechless. Even without saying a word, Si Mucheng knew that she was about to say the word "childish".
