Si Muyang pushed open the door to Cheng Xiaokui's bedroom. He walked into the room, looked around cautiously, and finally came to the back window of the house.
When Cheng Xiaokui was building the house, she asked the master craftsmen to make large windows in every room. Bungalows are usually damp because they are close to the ground, and within a few years, half of the walls will be covered with alkali.
The windows are large, allowing plenty of sunlight and good air circulation, which can reduce humidity in the room.
She followed Si Muyang into the room and said, "What are you looking at? I'll be fine on my own! Don't worry about me!"
Si Muyang said, "There's an open space outside this window; anyone can walk through here. I'm worried about you living here alone. What if a bad guy comes?"
He drew the curtains as he spoke.
It took Cheng Xiao Kui a full two seconds to understand the meaning of the word "not at ease".
After all, she traveled back from a book more than 40 years in the future. At that time, there were cameras on the streets, and people lived in peace and contentment. Although there were criminals, they were few.
However, the crime rate of burglary and robbery was definitely higher in this era than in later eras.
Her lips twitched slightly; she had forgotten about it when she opened the window.
She hesitated for a moment before saying, "It should be alright, right..."
Si Muyang said, "How much money did you earn today? How much money do you have at home? You're telling me it's nothing?"
You shouldn't have the heart to harm others, but you must be wary of others. What would you do if a robber, a girl, took the risk?
He gently parted the curtains a little with his fingers and looked outside.
The kerosene lamp hadn't been lit in the room yet, so it was dark inside, as were the streets and open spaces outside.
The moon shone down from the sky, casting a white reflection on the ground, which then shone back into the sky.
Therefore, in the areas illuminated by the moon, one can still vaguely see human figures.
Si Muyang frowned as he saw a figure moving in the distance.
He said, "I was right! Come and see!"
Cheng Xiao Kui walked over, and to get a better look, she stood in front of Si Muyang and peered out through the gap in the curtains.
She asked, "Look where? There's no one here."
Si Muyang said, "Look at the intersection, is there a figure moving around there?"
Cheng Xiaokui looked carefully, and after Si Muyang said that, she really saw a figure flicker at the intersection, and it shouldn't be just one person.
She asked, "Did you just walk by?"
Si Muyang said, "They were just walking by, and they just stood there without moving? Were they sleeping there?"
Cheng Xiao Kui pouted, "No way, we've been targeted so quickly!"
Si Muyang said, "You earn too much in a day, the people who are eyeing you should have been watching you for a long time."
You used to earn a lot, and now you earn even more. If someone comes in and robs you once, as long as you don't get caught, it's enough for half a year's living expenses.
I'll stay here with you tonight, and I'll find you two dogs later. A wolfhound to guard the house. Most thieves won't dare break in.
The mention of dogs instantly dispelled Cheng Xiao Kui's sleepiness.
She asked, "What kind of dog?"
All she could think about were Corgis, Golden Retrievers, and Labradors.
Si Muyang said, "A dog is a dog. A big wolfhound."
Cheng Xiao Kui imagined a wolfhound, could it look like a husky?
During her stay, the neighbors all lived in large courtyards, so there was no place to keep dogs and she hadn't seen any big dogs there.
Cheng Xiao Kui said, "Okay, thank you! Why don't you sleep next door to me? And your two guards too. There's another room next door where they can sleep."
Si Muyang looked at Cheng Xiaokui speechlessly, "I sleep next door, what about you? Someone climbed in, and you still had time to wake me? You would have been knocked unconscious by now! Aren't you afraid of losing both your money and your body!"
Cheng Xiao Kui touched her two index fingers together, fearing that she would lose both Si Muyang and her money if she let him stay here!
Just as she was figuring out how to get Si Muyang to sleep in the next room, she faintly heard footsteps coming from outside.
The footsteps were extremely light, the kind of footsteps that were deliberately slowed down in speed and weight.
Si Muyang pulled Cheng Xiaokui into his arms, his lips close to her ear as he whispered, "Did you hear that? They're coming. There should be three of them! Can you let me sleep in the next room?"
Cheng Xiaokui nudged Si Muyang's shoulder, pushing the man back a little, and nodded to indicate that she understood.
At this point, she also became a little scared. If three big men smashed the window and ran in, she really couldn't fight them all by herself.
Si Muyang said to Cheng Xiaokui in the bathroom, "You wait here and don't move. Don't make a sound!"
He turned and walked out of the room, deliberately using a restrained force when opening the door so that it made no sound at all.
He went out to call his two bodyguards.
The three men outside tiptoed to Cheng Xiao Kui's back window.
The three of them squatted down against the wall, whispering and discussing their next move.
One of them took out a piece of metal and poked it into the crack in the window, using it to slowly pull out the latch.
Once the latch is opened, the three of them can jump out of the window.
The three of them were listening intently to the clicking sound of the metal plate moving the pin.
Three people suddenly jumped down from the roof, and each of them kicked the three of them to the ground.
The three petty thieves were instantly terrified!
They considered that someone might be in the room and could hear the faint sound of the metal plate moving the pin.
But they never imagined that someone would jump down from the roof and kick them over!
