All the greasy and meaty things in the cave had been cleared away. The two men were now sitting on either side of the fire. There was moonlight at the entrance of the cave, firelight inside the cave, and light blue light from two night pearls above their heads.
There were sounds of gurgling water and whistling wind outside the cave entrance, occasional crackling sounds of burning fire inside the cave, and the light breathing sounds of Yan Baibai and Lu Wuxiu.
Of course, in Lu Wuxiu's ears, he could still hear the pounding sound of his own heartbeat.
"Really, it's just an ordinary pearl." Lu Wuxiu turned his head slightly and didn't dare to continue looking at Yan Baibai. He felt that all the blood in his body rushed to his face and heart, making him feel hot and uncomfortable.
As for the first half of Yan Baibai's words, he chose to ignore it. He didn't know how to answer, nor did he dare to answer.
"Yeah, it's really pretty." Yan Baibai smiled. She really thought it was beautiful, but seeing Lu Wuxiu's bewildered look, she found it adorable, so she wanted to tease him: "Lu Wuxiu, are you planning to give this pearl to the woman you like?"
"No, it's me..." Lu Wuxiu quickly turned around and looked at Yan Baibai. Seeing the smile on her face, he quickly looked away. After a long while, he gritted his teeth and murmured, "This... is for you."
"Well, give it to me?" Yan Baibai pointed at himself in surprise.
Lu Wuxiu turned around to look at Yan Baibai. Seeing the stunned look on her face, he suddenly felt relieved and said formally, "This was originally the thank you gift I intended to give you."
"Why?" Yan Baibai still couldn't recover from the shock.
"A thank you gift for saving my life." Lu Wuxiu said, then looked up at the two night-shining pearls on the cave ceiling, touched his nose, and said, "Some time ago, in the Beast Hunter Forest, you saved me."
"Oh, so it was that time!" After being reminded, Yan Baibai quickly recalled it. She suddenly looked at Lu Wuxiu and said in amazement, "In just a few short months, your cultivation has improved so rapidly. Lu Wuxiu, you are amazing!"
"I'm an outer disciple, so I can't bring anything special. This pearl is the best thing I have." Lu Wuxiu paused for a moment, looked up at the two night-shining pearls on the top, touched his head with a silly smile, and then hurriedly said, "I'll..."
As Lu Wuxiu spoke, he took back the pearl in his hand, but the pearl was quickly taken away by Yan Baibai, and Yan Baibai interrupted him before he could continue speaking.
"Thank you for the thank-you gift, I like it very much." Yan Baibai said with a smile while holding the pearls: "And you just saved me, so I will give you a thank-you gift as well!"
"I'm giving you a thank-you gift not because I want your thank-you gift. What I mean is, I don't want your thank-you gift, no..." Lu Wuxiu didn't expect things to turn out this way. He never thought about asking for any thank-you gift when he saved Yan Baibai. He was a little flustered for a moment and didn't know how to express his current thoughts.
During the etiquette class, the etiquette elder said this: Being grateful does require expressing gratitude, but if you do something out of gratitude, you will consume the bond.
The etiquette elders also said that if you receive a little help from someone and repay it immediately, it sends two messages to that person: first, you don't want to owe them anything and don't want to be involved with them any more, which means you're drawing a line; second, you want to continue to be involved with them, which is a gesture of friendship. It all depends on how the other person feels about it.
Lu Wuxiu felt that the interactions between people were too complicated. He had avoided them whenever possible in the past, but now, he suddenly felt a little regretful. He should practice more.
If it were not for this, he would not want to express his hope that Yan Baibai would accept his thank-you gift and let her know that he did not mean to draw a clear line between them.
"I understand what you mean." Yan Baibai said suddenly.
"You understand?" Lu Wuxiu was surprised.
"Yes, I understand." Yan Baibai nodded firmly.
"Well, that's good." Lu Wuxiu nodded hesitantly, and was too embarrassed to ask Yan Baibai what he understood.
After putting away the pearl in her hand, Yan Baibai turned her gaze to the Flame-Eating Sword that Lu Wuxiu placed at the entrance of the cave.
"Is this your sword?"
Lu Wuxiu nodded, and the sadness in his eyes flashed away.
"This is a good sword." Yan Baibai nodded, then looked at Lu Wuxiu and said seriously, "Is this the reason you have so many wounds on your body?"
"How do you know?" Lu Wuxiu was surprised.
"First, if this was your ancestral sword, you wouldn't be just an outer disciple of the Yanjian Sect. Second, if you had this sword all along, you wouldn't have had to wait for me to rescue you in the Beast Hunting Forest. Third, you kept leaving this sword at the entrance of the cave, which shows at a glance that you two are not familiar with each other."
Is there any sword cultivator in this world who would just abandon his sword wife so casually?
"Haha, yes." Lu Wuxiu was also amused by Yan Baibai's last words and nodded.
"Lu Wuxiu, since you are unwilling to accept my thank-you gift, let me apply medicine for you." Yan Baibai said as he took out a small porcelain bottle and opened it. The rich fragrance of medicine spread in the cave.
"It's okay, this injury is nothing, it will heal soon."
Even though he had never seen any good medicine, once he smelled the fragrance of this medicine, his mind became much clearer and he felt refreshed. He knew at a glance that this medicine was a top-grade medicine. In Lu Wuxiu's mind, as long as it was not a fatal injury, there was no need to use medicine.
Moreover, he is a half-demon. No matter how many wounds he has, as long as he doesn't die, the wounds on his body will disappear after each demonization. It is because of this that he has been able to survive safely until now.
"But it will hurt, won't it?" Yan Baibai took out some ointment, a puzzled look on his face. "I know there are many sword cultivators who think the same way as you, but as sword cultivators, we will have many opportunities to get hurt in the future, so if we can alleviate some of the pain, why not do it?"
