"Host, what are you still hesitating about?" The system looked at Mu Li who had been following the little girl in stealth, and couldn't help but urge her.
"You didn't tell me what I was going to do next! Why are you rushing me?" Mu Li continued to watch quietly as the little girl climbed up the steps of Baiyun Temple with difficulty.
"Of course I have to replace her and become her! Otherwise, how can you complete the main quest?"
"Are you in a hurry?" Mu Li asked doubtfully.
"Of course... no rush, host, take your time."
"Then shut up!" Mu Li scolded fiercely.
Mu Li followed the little girl into Baiyun Temple, walked through a quiet path, and finally stopped in front of a dilapidated house.
She pushed open the door, and a stale smell hit her face. The house was dark and damp, with peeling walls and the floor covered with dust and cobwebs.
Sitting on the cushion in the middle of the room was a white-haired old man. He was wearing a tattered Taoist robe and had a kind and calm face.
"Is this the abbot of Baiyun Temple?" Mu Li thought.
But the master of the temple raised his head and looked at Mu Li gently with a faint smile on his lips.
He didn't seem surprised by Mu Li's arrival, as if he had already expected it.
"You're finally here?" A hoarse voice sounded, and Mu Li was startled. "Are you asking me? Can he see me?"
The old abbot nodded and said, "I have been waiting for you for a long time!"
Mu Li was shocked, "What's going on?!"
Seeing that Mu Li did not show up or speak, the old abbot casually waved his hand and removed the invisibility talisman on Mu Li.
Mu Li calmly walked to the bench nearby and sat down, smiling, "So you've already noticed me!"
"I 'saw' you from the moment you landed on Baiyun Mountain, including the time when you helped Silly Girl punish the kids who bullied her..." The old abbot pointed at the water tank in front of him and waved his whisk. The scene of Mu Li landing on the mountain and entering Baiyun Temple appeared on the water surface.
"You always knew that she was being bullied? Then why didn't you help her?" Mu Li was a little angry.
"Alas... It's not that I don't want to help, but I can't!" The old master seemed to be recalling something, sighed, and fell into deep thought.
Mu Li looked at the naive little girl beside her, feeling increasingly sad. She should have been pampered, but this little girl had suffered so much since childhood. At this moment, Mu Li suddenly missed her family so much. She wondered how they would react when they knew she had come to another world. Her mother would probably cry, right?
"Girl, life and death are determined by fate, and wealth and honor are in the hands of God. You don't have to be sad about this! It's destined for that silly girl!" Mu Li, who was missing her relatives, was suddenly interrupted. When she came to her senses, she heard the nagging voice of the old master.
"You may not believe this, but three years ago, I was sleeping when I suddenly dreamt that my Grandmaster came to me and told me to quickly go to a scrap yard on the outskirts of Magic City and pick up a black garbage bag. He also said that if I didn't go, he would expel me from the sect, and our Baiyun Temple would cease to exist."
"I naturally didn't believe it after I woke up, but when I saw a stack of flying charms, invisibility charms, protective amulets, and a small porcelain bottle filled with some liquid on the bedside, I believed it because these things were not mine at all."
"So I packed all my stuff in my bag and used a lot of invisibility and flight talismans along the way to avoid detection by the electronic sky eyes. Finally, at dawn, I arrived at the scrap yard that the ancestor mentioned."
"When I got there, I saw a woman running away in a panic. There was indeed a black garbage bag at the entrance of the scrapyard. I was puzzled, so I went to check. I opened the bag and saw a baby lying inside, covered in bruises. The umbilical cord hadn't been cut, and I had no idea if it was still breathing. Just as I was at a loss as to what to do, I heard a loud thunderclap in the sky, mixed with a faint, angry voice."
"Fool, hurry up and feed her the spiritual spring water!"
"Then I remembered the small white porcelain bottle in my bag, and quickly took it out and fed the liquid inside to the baby. Strangely enough, after drinking the spiritual spring water, the baby's complexion visibly improved, but soon she started crying. I was afraid of causing unnecessary trouble, so I took her back to Baiyun Temple."
"Later, I dreamt that the Grandmaster told me not to interfere too much in Silly Girl's life, and that I should just make sure she stayed alive, so as not to disrupt her trajectory. He also said that one day the real her would return, and then Silly Girl would return to normal..."
"What?" Mu Li was shocked when she heard this! Subconsciously asked, "When is her birthday? Do you remember?"
"Of course I remember. It was the third day of March, the Flower Festival."
"March 3rd? The same birthday as mine, born at dawn. Could it be that she really has some connection with me?" Mu Li was uncertain.
At that moment, a book emanating an ancient and mysterious aura slowly emerged from between Mu Li's brows. Its surface was covered in mottled lines and strange symbols, as if carrying the weight of countless years and mysterious power. With its appearance, the surrounding air seemed to grow heavy, and an indescribable pressure permeated the air.
As the ancient book was opened, the old monk saw three clear large characters printed on the cover: "Book of Life and Death".
"What? This is the Book of Life and Death? Who is she?" The old abbot looked at Mu Li in shock, forgetting words for a moment.
Mu Li heard the old abbot mumbling to himself and frowned in confusion, "Book of Life and Death?"
She had always thought it was just an ordinary book, but she had never expected it to be the legendary Book of Life and Death. So, what was her identity? At this moment, Mu Li began to doubt her own life experience.
