Chapter 41 Stepping Forward to Protect the Baby
Zhenwei shook his head frantically, "We didn't steal it, Aunt Wen gave it to us!"
Aunt Qin sneered, clearly not believing it.
"Impossible. Comrade Wen would never do something so degrading."
Her gaze swept over the children, then landed on the youngest little dumpling. Her skin was as white as if she had just been pulled out of a milk vat, and she was dressed so stylishly and cutely. She couldn't possibly be stealing.
Immediately, Aunt Qin turned her suspicions toward Zhenwei.
"If you admit to stealing, I might consider not calling the police. Otherwise, when the police come to talk to your parents, you can expect a good beating!"
Xiao Zhenwei's eyes reddened, and he was so frightened that he dropped the candy in his hand on the ground.
Seeing that her threat had worked, Aunt Qin walked forward triumphantly, bent down to pick up the snacks, opened them, and poured them into her mouth, as if afraid of missing out on a single bite.
They looked incredibly greedy.
Sang Zhizhi stood with her hands on her hips, her chubby face flushed with anger, "We didn't steal anything, that's all! Auntie, if you want to eat, you can eat. Why are you accusing us of stealing?"
"Little brat! What do you know? I'm just tasting it!" Aunt Qin said, her face showing panic, then she added defiantly, "Whether it's from my family or not, I'll know as soon as I taste it!"
"Oh? Does that prove that you often steal food from home, Aunt Qin?"
Yuan Hui, who had remained silent until now, suddenly asked a question, and what she said hit the nail on the head.
Aunt Qin's expression froze for a second. She could only stubbornly argue, "Yuan Hui, I caught a thief for you. You can't side with outsiders! Aren't you hurting my feelings?"
“I’m the nanny of this family, how can that be called stealing food? No other nanny is as tired as me, having to take care of a blind person. If I hadn’t taken care of you since you were little, who knows what would have become of you. Why don’t you know how good it is?”
She curled her lip, her tone carrying an undisguised threat.
"Yuan Hui, you're undermining me like this. It seems I can't continue working for your family!"
After listening to Aunt Qin's emotionally charged "speech," Sang Zhizhi showed a slightly confused expression.
Aunt Qin is a nanny; her job is to take care of people.
She's paid to do things, and her salary isn't low, so why does it seem like she's suffered a huge injustice for taking care of the handsome guy?
The handsome guy hired a nanny, not a 'tyrant'.
Aunt Qin's attitude is so strange!
Xiao Zhizhi nodded, "Okay, then you can go."
Aunt Qin didn't expect this little girl to be so direct in telling her to leave.
She raised her chin, looking down at people with disdain, and said, "Who do you think you are? You think you can just tell me to leave and I'll leave? I've had an employment relationship with the former political commissar's family for so many years. How could they possibly listen to an outsider like you?"
Yuan Hui clenched his fists, his usual good temper gone.
"What if I told you to leave?"
"W-what?" Aunt Qin stammered, still stubbornly insisting, "What right do you have to kick me out?"
Sang Zhizhi wore pretty little braids today, and when she shook her head, it was like a rattle drum. She cleverly retorted, "Are you stupid? Just because handsome brother is your employer!"
Yuan Hui was amused by Zhi Zhi's adorable actions, and his originally serious expression softened with a smile.
"Yes, Zhizhi is right!"
He looked at Aunt Qin and said indifferently, "Since you find it tiring, we can't force you to continue. I'll talk to Mom and Dad when they come back and settle your wages. Aunt Qin, you should find another job that's easier and more respectable."
At first, Aunt Qin worked diligently, but after a while, she started to complain that taking care of a disabled person was too tiring.
Every time she said that, her mother would give her a raise in order to keep her.
Aunt Qin now earns 30 yuan a month, which is higher than the wages of workers in state-owned factories.
But over the years, her appetite has grown bigger and bigger. She often steals small things from the house and threatens to leave at the drop of a hat.
Previously, because he was blind, his parents were afraid that Aunt Qin would leave and they couldn't find a suitable caregiver to take care of him for a while.
But if his eyes are cured, he won't have to put up with the nanny's bad temper anymore.
When Aunt Qin heard that she was really going to be fired, her eyes widened in shock.
"Yuan Hui, what nonsense are you spouting?! You think you can just tell me to leave and I'll go? Who do you think you are?!"
Aunt Qin grew angrier and angrier, and ran into the yard to yell and curse, trying to attract the attention of outsiders. "I've taken such good care of you, I've worked so hard, and look at the former political commissar's child! This ungrateful brat treats me like this!"
This is probably what a shrew's rant looks like; it quickly attracted a lot of neighbors from outside.
"Is this the nanny from the former political commissar's family? Oh dear, look at her pitiful state, could she have been bullied?"
"Wen Tuanhua has always been proud and arrogant, and she's probably a difficult person to please."
"Hey! What's Yuan Hui doing at Commander Jiang's house? His daughter Zhizhi is the most sensible one, she wouldn't bully a nanny, would she?"
The neighbors around were talking about it.
Yuan Hui had never been publicly slandered before, and his face immediately turned red. He was so angry that he couldn't utter a single word for a long time.
At this moment, Sang Zhizhi bravely stepped forward.
Her cheeks puffed out in anger, just like a lifelike pufferfish.
“Aunt Qin, you were the one who wanted to leave, but you got upset when the handsome brother actually allowed you to. You’re really strange.”
"What nonsense are you spouting, you little girl!"
Seeing that many of her neighbors were on her side, Aunt Qin quickly started playing the victim, "I couldn't find Yuan Hui when I got to work today. I was afraid something had happened to him, so I rushed over. But then I saw this family's kids stealing snacks from Commissar Yuan's house. I said I'd call the police to find out, but these kids wouldn't have it and started urging Yuan Hui to fire me. Oh, I'm innocent! I was only thinking of my employer's best interests. These kids are really going to rebel!"
"You're lying!"
Sang Zhizhi pointed her little finger at the corner of her mouth, "Aunt Qin, you should wipe your mouth before you lie!"
Aunt Qin subconsciously wiped her mouth and found that there were still brown sugar residues left on the corners of her mouth from when she ate the chocolate biscuits.
The neighbors burst into laughter.
This little Zhizhi's fighting power is truly extraordinary.
With just a few words, the nanny's true colors were instantly exposed.
No wonder Commander Jiang liked her so much back then.
The laughter around her was incredibly grating to Aunt Qin's ears. Her face slowly turned a deep purplish-red, and even her voice became distorted beyond recognition. "What kind of person do you think you are? Your two older brothers are motherless bastards, and what about you? Don't you know what kind of despicable scum your father is who got your mother pregnant and made Commander Jiang take over? Today I'm going to teach you what it means to respect your elders!"
After breaking down, Aunt Qin hysterically berated the children.
She even rushed forward and tried to attack.
Just when things were at their most critical, a woman suddenly rushed out from the crowd and bravely held the child tightly in her arms.
"—Zhizhi!"
