Chapter 199 An Agreement is Reached, Jiang Yan Takes the Cub to Find Its Father
"What kind of beast?"
The little cub's question left both of them speechless.
Gan Su silently covered his face beside her, and whispered to his sister to explain the meaning of the note.
Zhizhi then realized that she had misread it.
It turns out they didn't call the child a monster; she was just illiterate.
She scratched her head a little embarrassedly.
Deng Qiu sent the two children out to keep an eye on things, and then negotiated with Jiang Yan in the inner room.
Zhizhi stood behind the door, but her gaze couldn't help but wander towards the living room.
Gan Su glanced at her helplessly, "Don't look anymore, Mom won't suffer any loss."
He nudged his sister with his elbow and whispered, "Is that man your biological father?"
Zhizhi snapped out of her daze, shook her head with a stern face, and said, "No, no."
"Don't lie, or a child's nose will grow longer."
Upon hearing his older brother's words, the little cub immediately covered his nose with his hand, crying out, "No, no!"
She cautiously glanced at her older brother's expression, then suspiciously tugged at her own cheek.
"Does it really look that similar?"
Gan Su curled her lips into a smile. "Have you forgotten that many uncles and aunts have said that you look a lot like our dad? That person is practically a carbon copy of our dad. So, do you think you look alike or not?"
The little cub sighed deeply, as if filled with bitterness and resentment.
So that's how she ended up looking like her father.
She had thought that dogs resemble their owners, and that she resembled her father, or that her father resembled her.
It seems she was overthinking things.
"Big brother, you know Dad has been arrested, why aren't you worried?"
"Because I know that the country and the military are fair, and the laws of our country will not wrong any good person, nor will they let any bad person go unpunished. Dad has done nothing wrong, so why are you in such a hurry?"
Gan Su was calm and composed; he appeared much more composed than the rest of his family.
The little cub stared intently at her older brother, unsure whether to say he was clever or that he knew too little.
That's true, though.
But the fact that my father enlisted in the army under a false name is irrefutable and cannot be denied.
Zhizhi is very worried about what will happen to her father in the future.
She didn't want to be separated from her parents.
Gan Su patted her shoulder, his tone reassuring, "Don't worry, I'm here. I won't let you leave. Our family can't be missing anyone!"
A short while later, Deng Qiu and Jiang Yan came out.
After confirming that no one was outside, Deng Qiu escorted Jiang Yan out of the military dependents' compound.
This time, however, Deng Qiu did not guard against Zhi Zhi as usual. Instead, she took the initiative to ask Zhi Zhi to escort Jiang Yan out.
"Why?"
Zhizhi looked at her mother angrily. She didn't understand. Was her mother sending a lamb to the slaughter?
What did this little lamb do wrong?
Deng Qiu's face remained calm and composed. "Do you want to see your father?"

"He will take you to see him now."
"ah?"
Zhizhi was stunned. She turned to look at Jiang Yan, her mind gradually becoming a jumbled mess.
I just can't figure out what happened that made my mom change so quickly.
Deng Qiu stared at Jiang Yan, her tone still wary as she left.
“I can tentatively believe what you said is true, not because of your credibility, but because I remember the kindness you showed by taking the heat for Zhizhi. Jiang Yan... he has already sacrificed enough for you. Don't let your brother be completely disheartened. Family is not for scheming against each other, but for sticking together and keeping each other warm.”
Jiang Yan's lips curled up slightly, but the smile was indistinct.
He neither agreed nor made any promises, but simply took Zhizhi's hand and walked outside.
Zhizhi followed for quite a while until she reached the main street, where a low-key black car stopped in front of her.
Jiang Yan silently opened the car door. "Get in."
"No way!"
"Do you really intend to walk that far?"
The little cub angrily slapped his hand away, turned around and glared at him, "I don't know what kind of spell you and Mom have cast on me, but it's because of your appearance that my family has encountered so many problems. Jiang Yan, you're a big bastard! What right do you have to threaten me with Dad?"
"When you grow up, you'll understand that it's a good thing when someone becomes your weakness."
Jiang Yan's expression was unreadable; he picked her up and shoved her into the car.
After getting into the car and closing the door, he instructed Xiao Wu in the front, "Go to Suzhou Military Region."
"Jiang, this isn't in accordance with the rules. It wouldn't be appropriate for you to go over there, would it?"
Xiao Wu glanced at the rearview mirror and whispered his advice.
Jiang Yan raised her eyes and shook her head almost imperceptibly at him. "Go."

With a screech, Xiao Wu slammed on the brakes, and the vehicle came to a steady stop at the entrance of the military base.
Zhizhi was about to get out of the car to find her father, but Jiang Yan reached out and stopped her.
"What are you doing? Get away from me!"
Jiang Yan lowered his eyes, a fleeting look of disappointment crossing his face, which he quickly concealed.
Did you understand everything I told you on the way here?
Zhizhi pouted, "I'm not stupid!"
On the way, he analyzed word by word what Uncle Han said in the phone booth.
That was a foreign language, though I don't know who Uncle Han was talking to on the phone.
However, Jiang Yan also stated that he was not the one who reported Jiang Anchao.
Even the fastest emergency telegram, once sent to the Beijing Military Region, would take at least twelve hours to reach them.
He stayed at the Jiang family's house all night and couldn't spare the time to write the complaint letter.
Very few people know about this, so who else could report it?
Jiang Yan told her that he found a bugging device in the Jiang family's living room, and it was very likely that the bugging device was installed by someone with malicious intent.
The sheer volume of information left the little cub completely bewildered; she felt her walnut-sized brain simply couldn't keep up.

Jiang Yan felt a little relieved after confirming that she had truly listened to him.
"Alright, you can go now."
Zhizhi was too lazy to talk to him anymore and reached out to open the car door.

The little cub turned to look at Jiang Yan, "You clearly didn't report it, so why did you admit it was you when I first asked you? Which of your statements is true and which is false?"
