Chapter 145 Dad's Divine Soldier Saves the Little Boss
The moment a voice rang out from the corner, everyone's attention immediately turned to it.
Upon seeing the person's face clearly, Ma Jianhua frowned almost imperceptibly. "Gan Su? Weren't you in Suzhou? Why are you back so suddenly?"
Jiang Gansu's face showed lingering fatigue, but her eyes were still surprisingly bright.
“My father is gone, but I am still here. Why should my family’s homestead be given to someone else?”
Ma Jianhua looked around and was surprised to find that only Gan Su had returned; his adoptive father was not with him.
He couldn't help but chuckle when he saw that there was only a five-year-old child.
"Gansu, you're still young and don't understand anything. Don't get involved in adult matters."
Jiang Gansu strode forward, stood in front of the table, and slammed his hands heavily on it.
"My father's homestead is the last thing he left me. You can't take it from me!"
Although the child's voice was loud, all the men present could hear it clearly.
But none of them took a child seriously.
In Xishan Village, Ma Jianhua was the production brigade leader, and his words carried a lot of weight. Although his younger brother Ma Jianguo was indeed more powerful, the deceased was gone, and the empty titles left behind were of no use.
Moreover, all that came was a five-year-old child. It would be a real shame to offend the village leader for the sake of a martyr's child.
Ma Jianhua crossed his arms, a contemptuous smile playing on his lips. "This is a matter for our village. Gan Su, you have an urban household registration and have been adopted. Logically speaking, you have no right to come to our village committee to listen to these things. Since you're here, your uncle is letting you listen out of consideration for our kinship. But you can't be as short-sighted as a rat. How the homestead is allocated has absolutely nothing to do with you."
“I am my father’s only son. That house belongs to my parents and should legally belong to me. My uncle… The village committee has a lot of power, but does it think it can stand above the state?”
Jiang Gansu's eyes were completely red, and he almost forced out the words through gritted teeth.
The villagers watching the play nearby made strange noises.
“Gansu, your uncle has worked hard to support your family all these years. Now that you’re a city dweller and have a ration of food, don’t be too greedy.”
"Yes, the production team leader goes to the fields every day to supervise us in planting, record work points, and also worries about the village's year-end pig slaughter and meat distribution. He works very hard. Your parents have only sacrificed their lives. You can't take advantage of this little bit of merit and keep asking us for land and houses, can you?"
"That's how those city bumpkins are. Living in those tenement buildings has made them narrow-minded. All they know how to do is calculate and scheme all day long. We honest farmers from Xishan Village have been farming all our lives. What's the point? Isn't it just to make sure we don't lose our ancestral property?"
"If you ask me, his dad's house has been empty for years, so it's just sitting there. Either we should all divide it equally, or only villagers from Xishan Village should be eligible to inherit it. We can't let someone with a city household registration take it away!"
Hearing the sarcastic remarks around him, Gan Su clenched his fists so tightly they cracked, and tears involuntarily streamed down his face, but he refused to bend down or lower his head.
"Do you have any conscience? My parents passed away... That was an honor! That was a sacrifice for the country! They were martyrs! How dare you say such things about them!"
He knew he was outnumbered and outmatched, but he never expected that the uncles and elders who had come to his house for his parents' funerals just a few years ago would now have changed their tune.
Villagers with good intentions rushed forward to flatter Ma Jianhua, eager to curry favor with him.
"You think your parents are so great, that they're the only ones who bring glory? Then why don't you take their memorial tablets or move their graves to the city? What are you doing here in our rural area?"
With one person taking the lead, the other troublemakers who were on good terms with Ma Jianhua quietly went to observe his expression.
When they realized that Ma Jianhua was indifferent to his nephew being pulled around, they all understood what was going on.
The captain is clearly trying to get rid of this kid.
Shouldn't they lend a hand?
If you please the team leader, why worry about not getting a good plot of land in Xishan Village?
Without further ado, the other troublemakers rolled up their sleeves and headed towards Gan Su.
"Kid! Let me tell you, this is Xishan Village Committee, not a place where you can cause trouble. Go back to where you came from!"
"Just throw him out, what are you waiting for!"
"Throw it out! Just throw it out! It's an eyesore!"
Ma Jianhua's arrogance was almost overflowing, but for the sake of his pride, he had to pretend to be helpless.
"Oh dear, he's still just a child. Be careful not to break him when you throw him out, or the army will come and bully us."
"Don't worry, Captain!"
As he spoke, the group of burly men approached Gan Su and grabbed his arms.
Gan Su struggled desperately, but he was no match for several adult men on his own.
Seeing that they couldn't control the child, the group of troublemakers simply brought over a basin of cold water and poured it over his head.
Tian Wu was the most arrogant of them all. He finished pouring the water with a grin and enjoyed watching Gan Su's drenched and embarrassed appearance.
"What I despise most are you city folks. Where does your sense of superiority come from? You're always bossing people around. Now it's your turn to look down on us, isn't it? You're not having a good time, are you? If you beg for mercy now, I might punch you a couple less times. Kid, if you don't learn to back down, guess if this basin will just crack your skull open?"
When Tian Wu grinned, his large, yellow teeth, stained from years of smoking, emitted a foul stench.
Jiang Gansu was shivering from the cold; in the dead of winter, even the water was frozen solid.
He poured the liquid directly from his head to the base of his neck; you can imagine how unbearable that must have been.
"roll!"
"Oh?" Tian Wu found it strange and cursed, "You're just like your cheapskate father, still stubborn even when you're about to die. Brothers, hold them down!"
As he spoke, he grabbed a washbasin and smashed it heavily on Gan Su's head.
The basin was heavy and made of hard material; if it hit someone, they would be crippled even if they didn't die.
In the blink of an eye, just as Tian Wu was about to smash the basin down, a figure flashed past the door, and then he felt an unprecedentedly intense force rushing straight toward his face.
'Bang!'
Before Tian Wu could react, he was kicked to the ground.
'Bang!' The washbasin crashed to the ground with a loud thud.
"Big brother! Are you alright?!"
Zhizhi's tone was anxious and worried. She pushed the men away forcefully, cursing, "Let go of my brother, or I'll bite you to death!"
After the cub finished speaking, everyone let go of its hands.
However, what people feared wasn't the child's words, but rather the man who had just kicked Tian Wude over...
Jiang Anchao's eyes burned with fury. He pressed his foot against Tian Wu's neck, his tone more dangerous than ever before, "You feel a sense of accomplishment when you bully kids, don't you? You love to swagger around, don't you? If you want to die, just say so, I'll grant your wish!"
