Chapter 236 Rock Bun's Advice

Hehehehe~ See you in three days~ Chapter Twenty-Five

Yan Zhili still had to attend court. Before leaving, he went to see Yan Shujin again, and instructed the guards to remember to call the imperial physician before departing.

The imperial physician arrived. After reviewing the prescription, he made no changes, but instead prescribed several dietary supplements before going to rest in another courtyard. He wanted to stay and wait for Yan Shujin to recover.

Yan Shujin woke up with her fever gone, but she was feeling a bit listless and sat on the bed hugging her blanket.

Liu Qin sat by the bedside the whole time, and reached out to touch her forehead: "Is Baojie feeling any better? Aunt Yu, go and fetch the imperial physician."

Yan Shujin was too lazy to move and said, "I want to eat shredded chicken noodles."

Liu Qin remembered that the imperial physician had told Yan Shujin to eat something light: "I had someone prepare millet and red date porridge for you, and you can have shredded chicken noodles tomorrow."

Yan Shujin nodded: "I'm hungry."

Liu Qin had someone bring over some porridge: "Brother Gui came to see you a few times, but I sent him away."

"There's no point in him staying," Yan Shujin said softly. "Let him focus on his studies."

Liu Qin reached out and gently tapped Yan Shujin's forehead: "Don't say that in front of Brother Gui."

Yan Shujin yawned and said, "I've said that before."

Liu Qin didn't know what to say. No wonder Gui Ge didn't hesitate when she asked him to leave, but he would come to ask about it from time to time.

The imperial physician arrived quickly, took Yan Shujin's pulse, and simply told her to rest well. Liu Qin thanked him and personally escorted the physician to the door.

Aunt Yu brought over the porridge. Yan Shujin wanted to get out of bed to wash up before eating, but Liu Qin stopped her. The maid brought over the washing utensils and helped Yan Shujin with her washing and grooming, showing no intention of letting Yan Shujin get out of bed.

Liu Qin sat by the bedside, feeding Yan Shujin spoonful by spoonful of porridge.

Yan Shujin took a few bites and then took the rest herself, saying, "Mom, I can eat by myself."

Liu Qin didn't object, and after Yan Shujin finished her bowl, she asked, "Would you like more?"

"Yes," Yan Shujin said. "I'm not full yet."

Liu Qin had someone serve her another bowl.

After Yan Shujin finished eating, she was forced to drink another bowl of "medicine" and lay motionless on the bed, clutching her stomach.

Liu Qin said, "Aunt Yu, you can go out first."

Yan Shujin grunted twice, but didn't say anything.

Aunt Yu and the maids in the room all left.

Looking at her daughter's expression, Liu Qin's heart softened, and she said softly, "Can you tell me why Bao Jie did this?"

Yan Shujin puffed out her cheeks and said, "Mother, I don't want to talk about it."

Upon hearing this, Liu Qin didn't ask any further questions: "Why did you make yourself so feverish?"

Yan Shujin said, "I was wearing wet clothes when the night wind blew on me."

Liu Qin felt a pang of heartache and reached out to tidy her daughter's stray hairs, asking, "Where are your wet clothes?"

Yan Shujin said with a grin, "Aunt Yu keeps it."

"Aunt Yu?" Liu Qin frowned slightly and asked, "Could it be that Aunt Yu's arrangement was also the reason the doctor said you were overthinking things?"

Yan Shujin nodded.

Liu Qin asked, "You..."

Yan Shujin pursed her lips and said, "Mother, I need someone I can trust by my side."

Liu Qin sighed and said, "You know what you're doing, but remember, nothing is more important to me than your health, understand?"

Although Liu Qin didn't accuse her of making herself sick, those words hurt Yan Shujin even more than any accusation.

Holding her mother's hand, Yan Shujin deliberately brought up Aunt Yu's matter: "I think nothing brings people closer than a shared secret, and it can also be considered a handle that Aunt Yu gave me, which is to put my mind at ease."

Although Liu Qin understood, she still felt sorry for her daughter.

Yan Shujin deliberately made a face and said, "And right now, Father, don't you feel guilty and heartbroken towards me?"

Liu Qin did not answer.

But Yan Shujin could already guess the answer just by looking at her expression.

Yan Shujin said, "If anything happens in the future, Father will only think that I'm being stubborn, not that I'm heartless."

Liu Qin whispered her conversation with Yan Zhili, and Yan Shujin beamed with joy. If she weren't still feeling unwell, she probably would have jumped out of bed and done something: "Sister Bao, don't overwork yourself."

Actually, Liu Qin wanted to advise her daughter not to be too wary of her father, but after saying that, she thought again that it was better to be a little shrewd than to be too trusting of others, so she only advised her daughter not to overwork herself.

Yan Shujin didn't feel tired at all, as if these things were very simple for her, much simpler than practicing calligraphy. However, Yan Shujin didn't plan to tell Liu Qin about this, and just said coquettishly, "I know, Mother, don't worry."

Liu Qin then stopped saying anything.

By the time Madam Wang arrived in the capital, Yan Shujin had fully recovered. If the imperial physician hadn't insisted that Yan Shujin rest for a couple more days to ensure her recovery, she probably wouldn't have wanted to stay in her room on the second day.

After confirming Madam Wang's arrival time, Yan Zhili arranged for people to wait at the dock, fearing that he might miss his benefactor, Madam Wang.

So after receiving Madam Wang, the servants hurried back to deliver the message.

The Prince's mansion had already prepared the courtyard, but Madam Wang had no intention of moving in; she simply said that a courtyard had already been rented.

The steward dared not make the decision on his own, nor did he dare to actually stop Lady Wang and her entourage. He could only send someone to deliver a message and escort Lady Wang to her rented courtyard, so that they would be able to answer if Prince Xuan or Princess Xuan asked about it later.

Most importantly, the steward knew the status of Lady Wang in the hearts of Prince Xuan's family, so he naturally treated her with utmost respect.
