Chapter 68 The Golden Bun Transforms into the Golden Debater

Lady Wang had no intention of making things difficult for the steward. She took the boy into the carriage prepared by the steward. The carriage had the insignia of the Prince Xuan's residence, and no one would cause trouble on the way.

Inside the carriage, Madam Wang breathed a sigh of relief, thinking about the respectful attitude of the steward and servants. It seemed that Baojie and the others were doing well in the capital and their positions were secure, which was good news.

When the steward's message arrived, Yan Shujin and Yan Qiyu were in class. After Mr. Li finished speaking, they learned that Madam Wang had arrived but was staying outside. The two of them immediately went to see Liu Qin.

Liu Qin was waiting for her two children and had a lot of things packed up: "Have you asked the master for leave?"

Yan Shujin said, "Not yet, I just got the news and came over."

Liu Qin said, "You should go and ask the teacher for leave first. I'll wait for you at the door."

Yan Shujin agreed and said, "Mother, there is a small mahogany box in my room that I prepared for Madam Wang. Please remember to take it with you."

"Okay." Liu Qin urged, "Go quickly."

Yan Shujin then cheerfully took Yan Qiyu to ask Mr. Li for leave. She also wanted to chat with Madam Wang, as she was afraid she wouldn't be able to make it back in time for the afternoon.

Yan Qiyu asked, "Sister, why doesn't Madam Wang live in the mansion?"

Yan Shujin said, "I'm afraid it's inconvenient."

"Won't you be disappointed, sister?" Actually, Yan Qiyu wasn't familiar with Madam Wang, but she knew that Madam Wang had been kind to their family and treated Yan Shujin very well, so she had a good impression of her and couldn't help but say, "Besides, what if she gets bullied while living outside?"

Yan Shujin smiled and said, "I'm not disappointed. Madam Wang is a smart woman and won't be bullied."

She was naturally not disappointed. Madam Wang had rented a courtyard in the capital instead of living in the mansion, which probably meant she intended to stay in the capital. How could Yan Shujin be disappointed by such good news?

Yan Qiyu then stopped asking questions.

Mr. Li was still in his study, preparing what he would be saying in the afternoon. When he saw Yan Shujin and the others return, he asked, "Did you forget something?"

“Sir, Madam Wang is here. I would like to ask for leave this afternoon.” Yan Shujin said respectfully, “I will catch up on the homework you assigned later.”

Mr. Li had heard about Madam Wang's situation, and he felt that it was a good thing that Yan Shujin hadn't forgotten her former benefactors after becoming successful, nor that Madam Wang knew about her impoverished past and hadn't become estranged from her. So he readily agreed and asked, "Are you the only one asking for leave?"

Just as Yan Qiyu was about to speak, he heard Yan Shujin say, "Yes, my younger brother will come to class."

Mr. Li said, "Okay, you can go ahead."

After leaving the study, Yan Qiyu asked, "Sister, shouldn't I stay there?"

Yan Shujin said, "You're not familiar with Madam Wang. When the time comes, Mother and you will come back first, and I'll keep Madam Wang company for a while."

Yan Qiyu nodded. It seemed that her sister was annoyed that she and her mother had disturbed her and Madam Wang's secret conversation.

Mrs. Wang rented a house in Xicheng, but the location was a bit remote, the yard wasn't big, and the house looked a bit simple, but the layout was quite nice.

When Liu Qin arrived with her two children, Madam Wang was having her luggage moved.

Because Madam Wang had already sent people to the capital to clean it in advance, it wouldn't look too dirty or messy. Moreover, Madam Wang knew that Liu Qin and the others were coming, so she specially had people tidy up the flower hall in advance, and water was also boiled in the kitchen.

"Madam." Yan Shujin quickly stepped forward upon seeing Madam Wang, though she regarded Madam Wang as another mother to her.

Madam Wang was about to bow when Yan Shujin quickly helped her up.

Liu Qin also said, "Madam, you've made us feel ashamed."

Lady Wang said, "The proper etiquette must not be disregarded."

Yan Shujin wrinkled her nose, took Madam Wang's arm, and said, "We'll talk about etiquette and rules when there are outsiders. We're all family now, so we don't need to worry about these things."

Looking at Yan Shujin's expression, Madam Wang smiled and said, "Alright, Baojie's word is law."

Yan Shujin chuckled.

After the group sat down in the flower hall, Madam Wang had her maid bring tea, and the snacks were specially ordered by her to be bought in advance.
