In fact, Madam Yan also had her own selfish motives, but they were all for the sake of Liu Qin and her two sons.
Madam Yan said, "Wait two more years. If we still can't find out about Zhili by the time the world is at peace, then we'll name the children and you can remarry. I'll give you a dowry, and I'll take care of the two children if they want to stay."
Liu Qin wasn't the kind of person who didn't know what was good for her. She didn't have any intention of remarrying, but she was afraid that she would have to re-register her household registration when things were peaceful. By then, there would be time to name the children.
Gui Ge also woke up and was led by the maid to find Liu Qin and Bao Jie. He was still a little shy, and the only people he was familiar with in this place were his mother and sister.
Unexpectedly, not long after Gui Ge arrived, a maid brought over a lot of fruit and pastries. The pastries were shaped like various animals, and just by looking at them, you could tell that they were much more exquisite than what the kitchen had served to Liu Qin and Bao Jie.
After the maid entered, she bowed and said with a smile, "This servant, Yunxiang, greets Madam, Young Master, and Miss. These are pastries that our Madam specially asked the small kitchen to prepare for Young Master. We didn't know what Young Master's tastes like, so we prepared some sweet and some savory ones."
Gui Ge didn't say anything, just quietly looked at the maid. Even though he was still a child, he was literate and his mother was his father's wife. Yet there was another person in their family who called herself "Madam".
Liu Qin pursed her lips: "I didn't know there was another lady in this household."
Yunxiang came here on Xu's orders to test Liu Qin's abilities. If Liu Qin steps down this time, it will be difficult for him to take over as manager again in the future: "This servant doesn't know either. It was Master who had people call me that."
Baojie got off the chair, walked over and looked at the pastries Yunxiang was holding, and said with a smile, "These things are exquisite, they look just like the real thing."
Looking at Baojie's appearance, Yunxiang couldn't help but feel a little disdainful. As expected of someone from the countryside, she had no refinement whatsoever. "If you like, Miss, you can always come to our Madam's courtyard to eat in the future."
Baojie shaped a pastry into the shape of a tiger and looked at Yunxiang: "Sister, you are very pretty too."
Yunxiang was secretly pleased, but she didn't show it on her face. She simply said, "Thank you for your kind words, Miss."
Baojie glanced at the other maids around her, fumbled with her fingers, circled Yunxiang halfway around until she was behind her, and then suddenly kicked her to the ground.
Yunxiang was shocked that Baojie would actually attack, and even more so that Baojie was so strong. She gasped and fell to the ground, dropping the plate and pastries she was holding: "Miss, you..."
Before she could finish speaking, Baojie had already knelt on one knee behind her back, holding the little tiger snack in one hand and pulling her hair with the other, making her raise her head.
Bao Jie's attack was sudden, which startled Liu Qin. Gui Ge, on the other hand, remained quiet, as this wasn't the first time he had seen his sister make a move.
"Oh dear, it's such a pity that such delicate pastries are all dirty." Baojie looked at the maid who came with Yunxiang and said, "Pick up all these pastries for me."
The maid's face turned pale. She looked at Yunxiang and then at Baojie.
Yunxiang cried and said, "Miss, you're like this..."
Baojie's expression changed, and she grabbed Yunxiang's head and slammed it to the ground. The blow was merciless, and Yunxiang felt a darkness before her eyes. When she looked up again, blood was already flowing down her forehead.
The maid was about to cry out when she tightly covered her mouth.
Baojie looked around at everyone in the room and said, "I have a bad temper, so don't make me repeat myself."
The maid who came with Yunxiang was a little unsteady on her feet. Although they were maids, they had been raised to serve others since childhood and had never seen such a bloody thing before. When she saw Baojie staring at her, she immediately knelt down on the ground and quickly crawled to pick up the pastries.
Sometimes, without noticing, she would carelessly cut her hand on a plate, but she didn't dare to utter a sound. The pastries, now covered in dust and stained with blood, would never have been as exquisite as they once were.
Baojie said, "It's such a waste of these snacks. I've never eaten anything so good before. Don't waste them. You feed them to her. Don't waste a single bite, okay?"
Yan Shujin vaguely heard that the man's words implied that he was humiliating the girl. It seemed that the girl's family had some status in the previous dynasty, but they had fallen from power. The two families used to know each other, and it was likely that the young man's family was among the first to seek refuge with his uncle.
Yan Shujin had no idea what happened to that girl.
Yan Shujin frowned and said, "Stop the car."
Just as Yan Shujin said, if doing good deeds would implicate herself and her family, then Yan Shujin would not do it. However, helping this girl would not hinder Yan Shujin in any way, so she would choose to do it.
The guards stopped the carriage, and without anyone helping her, Yan Shujin got off the carriage herself. Just as she was about to walk over, she saw another young man in brocade robes leading a group of people past.
The young man in brocade robes was arrogant, but only because he was so good-looking, his demeanor didn't make people feel disgusted; instead, it made people feel that he deserved to be that way.
Yan Shujin stopped in her tracks, wanting to see what the young man in brocade robes was going to do, as he walked toward the group of people with fans.
The young man in brocade robes seemed not to see the people with fans. Even though the young man with the fan dodged him, he still bumped into them. Before the young man with the fan could speak, he immediately clutched his arm and cried out in pain.
Yan Shujin: "..."
If she wasn't mistaken, she had bumped into the right arm, but the young man in brocade was covering his left arm, clearly indicating he was looking for trouble.
The young man with the fan angrily retorted, "Hey, Han, what do you mean?"
