Chapter 86: Love at First Sight
Xie Zheng threw down the peach pit and was about to leave.
When his grandmother saw him about to go out, she stopped him, saying, "Xiao Zheng, you're injured. Stay home and rest in this hot weather. Don't go out."
The old man was somewhat worried when Lu Ye invited him.
Lu Ye was as strong as an ox. If the two of them got into a fight, their eldest grandson would definitely be no match for Lu Ye.
Every time they clashed as children, Xie Zheng would come home with a bruised and swollen face.
Lu Ye is now a special forces soldier. Even if Xie Zheng wasn't injured, let alone injured, he wouldn't be a match for him.
But they also knew Xie Zheng's temperament; he was always sarcastic and liked to provoke Lu Ye.
If the arm is injured a second time, that would be terrible.
Even if there is no physical harm, there will definitely be psychological trauma.
Therefore, Xie Zheng's grandmother strongly opposed it and did not want Xie Zheng to go out.
"Grandma, it's okay, the wound is almost healed, it won't affect anything."
He didn't believe that Lu Ye would lay a hand on him, an injured patient.
Old Xie also came over to remind him, "You must take good care of yourself when you go out. If the road is uneven, let others smooth it over; if there is injustice, let others handle it. You are injured, so remember to pay attention to safety."
Upon hearing his grandfather's words, Xie Zheng smiled and looked at him, "Grandpa, this isn't like you at all. You didn't educate me like this when I was a child."
Meeting Xie Zheng's teasing gaze, Old Xie's eyes flickered slightly as he tried to justify himself, "What I mean is, you're injured, don't try to be brave."
That's right. When Xie Zheng was a child, he taught him to be brave and to have a strong sense of righteousness.
But as he and his wife grew older, they became increasingly afraid that Xie Zheng, their only son, would be harmed.
Due to the special work requirements, the son and daughter-in-law are almost out of contact.
Xie Zheng is their spiritual support. Whether he is successful or not, whether he can achieve great things or not, it doesn't matter. As long as he is safe and healthy and by their side, that's enough.
"Grandpa, don't worry, I'm a grown man and I can protect myself. This little injury is nothing to worry about."
Xie Zheng went inside and found a brand new red shirt. Looking at the shirt in his hand, he muttered to himself, "No, he'll definitely attack me for dressing too femininely again."
So, with difficulty, he picked up a light blue shirt with his left hand. "This one is nice, I'll wear this one."
After struggling to get dressed, he came out with a bottle of hair mousse and handed it to his grandmother. "Grandma, could you spray some hair mousse on my hair? It keeps flying around."
Grandma Xie took it. Her movements were practiced. "Squat down a bit, otherwise I can't reach it and won't spray it evenly."
Xie Zheng dressed up from head to toe, put on sunglasses, and went out looking very fashionable and stylish.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the teahouse that Lu Ye had arranged over the phone.
Xie Zheng entered the teahouse and saw a man sitting upright in a chair drinking water from afar.
He took a deep breath, composed himself, prepared for battle, and stepped forward.
He approached and was somewhat surprised when he saw Lu Ye's face clearly.
This kid doesn't look too good.
She looked haggard and much thinner.
He plopped down opposite him and asked directly, "Did you need something?"
As soon as Xie Zheng sat down, a pungent smell of hair mousse hit Lu Ye's nostrils.
He quickly covered his mouth and nose and sneezed properly.
He wiped his nose with a handkerchief, looked at the increasingly glamorous and fashionable man, poured him a cup of tea, and pushed it in front of him.
"Still not working properly?" he asked Xie Zheng casually.
"What do you mean by a proper job?" Xie Zheng crossed his legs, picked up his teacup, took a sip, and scoffed, "I hate it when you always look down on others with this condescending attitude, as if you're the only great one."
Of course, it must be admitted that Lu Ye's profession is indeed very noble.
But what's great is his profession, not him as a person.
He wouldn't have any professional bias towards Lu Ye.
Xie Zheng glanced at him and asked, "What did you want to meet me for? You didn't just want to show off your professional superiority and mock me, did you?"
"Stay away from Bai Zhi from now on," Lu Ye said bluntly.
Xie Zheng narrowed his phoenix eyes slightly, clearly not expecting Lu Ye to bring this up. "What do you mean?"
Lu Ye's gaze sharpened. "You knew she was engaged to me, so you deliberately approached her?"
"You're really overthinking it."
Xie Zheng leaned back in his chair and said, "I'm not that despicable."
Lu Yejun looked at him seriously, his tone heavy, "Xie Zheng, we've known each other for so many years, we know each other very well. You can hate me, but don't hurt innocent people because of me."
"Isn't Bai Zhi the arranged marriage your grandfather forced upon you? Knowing your nature, you wouldn't be so bored as to worry about whether I'll hurt her."
Xie Zheng narrowed her phoenix eyes, scrutinized him, and concluded, "You like her."
Lu Ye neither admitted nor denied it. "Just remember what I said."
"Have you seen her?" Xie Zheng asked.
Lu Ye neither confirmed nor denied, "Of course."
"Love at first sight?" Xie Zheng looked at him with a smirk, her tone meaningful. "That shouldn't be the case. What kind of women haven't you, Company Commander Lu, seen? Would you fall in love with a country girl at first sight?"
Feeling guilty under Xie Zheng's gaze, Lu Ye quickly avoided his eyes, his tone carrying a warning, "I'll say it again, stay away from her."
“Lu Ye, I’m afraid that won’t work. It’s my freedom to be close to whomever I want and to make friends with whomever I want.”
Xie Zheng was furious. "Bai Zhi is also very good to me. When she saw my injured arm being bandaged, she was so worried about me."
He looked at his arm and continued stabbing himself. "She's afraid I'll have scars on my arm, so she's going to give me scar removal medicine."
Scar removal medication?
Lu Ye, "!!!"
He exuded a terrifying aura, his eyes dark and sinister. "Xie Zheng, don't you know your own character? How many women have surrounded you all these years? Don't use the same tricks you use on Bai Zhi. She's different from those women."
He warned him, "If you deliberately approach her or hurt her because of me, I will not forgive you."
Xie Zheng, however, got excited and leisurely sipped his tea, saying in a nonchalant tone, "Who are you to her? By what right do you speak to me like this? Your engagement was arranged by your elders. Whether she even approves of you is another matter. Stop indulging in self-congratulation."
Xie Zheng tossed his flowing, chin-length hair with a narcissistic air, "Maybe she likes my type."
"You better behave yourself, or I'll punch your face in the face."
His eyes were dark and sharp, and Xie Zheng's heart skipped a beat, but he quickly calmed down.
"We'll see."
The conversation between the two men ended unhappily.
...
Bai Zhi had just locked the door after getting off work in the afternoon when she turned around and saw a tall man standing behind her like a wall.
She nearly bumped into his chest.
She looked puzzled. "Company Commander Lu, what are you doing here?"
"To pick you up after get off work."
"What?" Bai Zhi looked at him as if she had seen a ghost, then turned her head to look in the direction where the sun was setting.
"Don't doubt it, the sun sets in the west."
