Chapter 701: Don't be a spoilsport parent

Chapter 701: Don't be a spoilsport parent

Dr. Zhou wanted to get the answer from his daughter in front of everyone.

Although Zhou Lin had previously expressed her interest in studying medicine.

But since Ye Rufeng said that, he must have his reasons.

Did Zhou Lin say something to Ye Rufeng?

Meeting the tense yet inquisitive gazes of her grandfather and father, Zhou Lin smiled and said, "Dad, I want to be a doctor. It's my lifelong dream. I want to be a Chinese medicine doctor with superb medical skills, just like Grandpa Ye and Sister Baizhi, who can save lives."

"Child, you didn't say anything against your conscience?" Old Master Zhou pressed.

Zhou Lin laughed and said, "What's there to be against my conscience about? If I didn't want to study medicine, would I have followed Grandpa Ye? I've read so many medical books over the years. Did you think I was just putting on an act for you? Let me tell you, we young people think differently from you. If we don't like doing something, we won't compromise."

Dr. Zhou breathed a sigh of relief, "My dear girl, it's good that you're willing to learn."

Ye Rufeng listened to Zhou Lin's words, his eyes filled with admiration.

“This child is far more talented than you two. Since she said so in front of you today, she will follow me from now on. As for whether she will return to Jishengtang, we’ll talk about that after she completes her apprenticeship.”

Upon hearing Ye Rufeng's evaluation of Zhou Lin, Old Master Zhou and Doctor Zhou exchanged bewildered glances.

These words were honest, and although they made the father and son lose face, it was gratifying that Doctor Ye had affirmed Zhou Lin's abilities, which meant that the Zhou family would at least have a successor.

This was very gratifying for them.

Ye Rufeng also thanked Dr. Zhou's mother.

If she hadn't regained her senses and been able to communicate normally with Ye Tiandong, the father and son would never have had a chance to reconcile.

Therefore, he taught Zhou Lin medicine for free as a way of expressing his gratitude.

"What medicine is your sister-in-law taking? Is it imported from abroad?" Ye Rufeng asked Grandpa Zhou, looking at the old lady sitting with them and occasionally chiming in.

Grandpa Zhou nodded, "Yes, Huai Ren asked a friend to send it from abroad. You have to keep taking the medicine and can't stop. It's some kind of nerve-suppressing drug with quite a few side effects, but thankfully it's effective. At least I'm more clear-headed than before."

Ye Rufeng is only proficient in traditional Chinese medicine and does not know much about Western medicine. However, he has to admit that Western medicine has its advantages in many fields.

Bai Zhi also explained a lot about Western medicines to him.

For diseases like Alzheimer's, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is not very effective. Although acupuncture can play a certain role, patients are usually unable to cooperate with the treatment because they are not in a state of consciousness.

For this disease, they need to perform acupuncture on the patient's face and head, and the location of the acupoints themselves is very dangerous.

If the patient cannot remain still, the needle could be inserted into the acupoint, and there is a risk to life if not handled carefully.

So even though traditional Chinese medicine could be somewhat effective, he still couldn't risk treating Grandma Zhou.

Ye Rufeng said, "As long as it works, continue taking the medicine."

Ye Tiandong and Cui Hua drove over in the afternoon, first picking up Ye Rufeng and Zhou Lin from the Zhou family, and then taking them to the hotel for dinner.

Ye Rufeng thought they were going to the train station, but when he looked out the window, he realized something was wrong.

He asked, "How did we end up at the hotel again?"

Ye Tiandong replied, "It's still early. Come over and have a meal. Once you're full, you can take the bus."

After parking the car, he and Cui Hua led the old man and Zhou Lin straight into the private room on the second floor.

As soon as the guests were seated, the waiters began serving the dishes.

Looking at the magnificent and luxurious hotel and the table full of delicious food, Zhou Lin was filled with amazement.

That's too extravagant.

Ye Tiandong smiled and called to them, "Come on, Linlin, stop staring and eat!"

Ye Tiandong very considerately served Ye Rufeng a bowl of fish soup, saying, "Dad, have some soup first."

Ye Rufeng was deeply moved as he looked at the fish soup brought to him by the hotel owner's son, who was wearing a white shirt, tie, and slicked-back hair.

Cui Hua was also busy setting out the dishes. He said, "You two eat too."

"Okay, sure."

Cui Hua and Ye Tiandong sat down on either side of Ye Rufeng. Although no one was very hungry at this time, they still ate with the old man.

Looking at the sumptuous feast on the round table in the private room, Ye Rufeng said, "We're all family here, there's no need for you to be so extravagant. Just make a bowl of noodles for each of us. All this meat and fish is too greasy, we can't eat it, and it's not good for our health."

Ye Tiandong served him some food, smiling as she said, "Dad, what are you saying? How can eating too much meat and fish be bad for your health? So many people work hard all day just to earn money for their food."

Ye Rufeng, however, did not appreciate his sentiment. "This is your boss's idea. The nutritional value of these things is really not as good as eating some whole grains."

Upon hearing this, Ye Tiandong's lips twitched slightly, and he said in a low voice, "Don't be a spoilsport old man."

“I don’t want to nag you too much, but when I took your pulse last night, I made it very clear that you need to take care of yourself. I’ve written down the prescription and put it on the table. Go get some medicine when you have time.”

If his son continues to overeat like this, it will really affect his health.

Upon hearing Ye Rufeng's words, Cui Hua looked at Ye Tiandong with a puzzled expression, "Uncle Ye prescribed you medicine. Are you feeling unwell? Why didn't you tell me?"

Ye Tiandong was sweating profusely with embarrassment. He tried to make excuses, saying, "I'm perfectly healthy, nothing's wrong with me. My dad wants me to take care of my health."

He didn't have any illness; the old man just wanted to have a grandson.

How could he possibly say that?

Ye Rufeng ignored Ye Tiandong and looked at Cui Hua, instructing her, "Xiao Cui, make sure he drinks the medicine, for at least 20 days."

Cui Hua nodded. He felt that since Ye Rufeng had prescribed medicine for Ye Tiandong, there must be something wrong with his health.

It's impossible to make a healthy person take medicine for no reason.

She'll take the prescription to a professional doctor for a quick look and she'll know the answer.

"Alright, alright, hurry up and eat. After you finish, we'll get on the bus."

Ye Tiandong was afraid that his father would speak recklessly and bring up the matter of them having children soon in front of Cui Hua.

He and Cui Hua had just registered their marriage when he mentioned having children, which inevitably aroused suspicion that he was using her as a breeding tool.

Although they are both of a certain age, they are not in a hurry.

Fortunately, the old man knew his limits and didn't say anything to embarrass the girl.

After finishing their meal, Ye Tiandong and Cui Hua asked Ye Rufeng and Zhou Lin to take them to the train station.

"Dad, please be careful in the car."

"Don't worry, we'll get there after a nap, no need to worry."

Ye Rufeng was very familiar with taking the train and didn't need Ye Tiandong to buy him a platform ticket, since he didn't have much luggage.

He slung his small satchel over his shoulder and walked away with a nonchalant air. "You two go back, we'll go in ourselves."
