Chapter 10: I Found a Job

Chapter 10: I Found a Job

Bai Zhi was unaware of Lu Shan's inner thoughts.

She was unaware that she was being treated specially by Company Commander Lu.

She packed the silver needle box into her cloth bag and said goodbye, "Uncle, Aunt, I'll be going back now."

“Okay.” Lu Zheng’an said to Lu Shan, “Go get Xiao Zhi’s medicine. Your mother and I will see her off.”

Lu Shan quickly brought over a bottle of wound ointment independently developed by the military hospital. Bai Zhi didn't actually need it, but since it was a kind gesture, she had no choice but to accept it.

After thanking him, he prepared to leave.

Lu Zheng'an and Xie Yun escorted her to the stairwell. Xie Yun took out a wad of cash from her wallet and handed it to her. "Xiao Zhi, we were going to take you shopping for clothes, but we really can't leave now."

"Take this money, take a taxi directly to the department store, and pick out a couple of outfits you like."

Bai Zhi hurriedly waved her hand to refuse, "Auntie, no need."

"Here you go. Your clothes are too hot. Buy two dresses. If you don't buy them, your Grandpa Lu will be suspicious when we get back."

Bai Zhi had no choice but to accept it, saying, "Then consider this money a loan from me."

Bai Zhi packed up the money, greeted them, and went downstairs.

It was already past nine in the morning, and the sun was already very strong during the hottest days of summer.

Bai Zhi glanced down at her clothes, which did indeed seem somewhat out of place in the current environment.

Of course, it's hot too.

Xie Yun was also very generous, giving her a full two hundred yuan, which was more than enough to buy two sets of clothes.

She first mailed the letter in the package at the post office near the hospital.

Because time was of the essence, she specially sent it by registered mail.

I carefully affixed the stamp and dropped the envelope into the mailbox.

Then I took a bus to the department store.

In this era, the women in the city dressed very fashionably, especially in summer, with all kinds of colorful, retro, and beautiful skirts.

Bai Zhi was wearing heat-absorbing black fabric trousers and cloth shoes, and her floral shirt had faded from washing.

Standing in front of this grand department store, I attracted strange looks from the fashionable women who were shopping in twos and threes around me.

Bai Zhi, with her mature mindset, doesn't care about these things.

Once inside the mall, she ignored the sales assistants' pitches and picked out a white shirt and a pair of flared jeans from the women's clothing section.

Plus a pair of white sandals.

She needs to dress appropriately and conservatively when she goes to look for a job.

She bought relatively ordinary materials, spending a total of over seventy yuan.

For her now, this is considered a huge expense.

As she was leaving the mall, she saw two floral dresses hanging at the entrance with "cheap clearance" tags on them.

The mall staff said that the clothes had some minor flaws and would be sold for ten yuan each. Bai Zhi looked at them for a while and then bought the light blue one.

This is a long dress; she can just cut off the top half and hem it.

In this hot weather, it's okay to wear something a little shorter.

She bought new clothes, put her old clothes in a bag, and boarded the bus again.

I went to the Chinese medicine shop where I got the prescription and exchanged it for silver needles yesterday.

When she went in, Dr. Zhou, who was on duty, was holding a martial arts novel, just like yesterday, and was dozing off with one hand supporting his chin.

Bai Zhi tapped the tabletop twice with her fingers.

Dr. Zhou opened his eyes, still half asleep.

Upon seeing the person's face clearly, he yawned, "Oh, isn't this the girl from yesterday?"

"Hello, Dr. Zhou."

Bai Zhi glanced around and smiled, "You seem to have a lot of free time."

Dr. Zhou sighed, "You bet! I haven't had a single patient all day, I've been so bored I've fallen asleep."

"It would be great if there were no patients. It is also our wish as doctors to have people in good health."

"That's true, but we still need to eat, don't we?"

Doctor Zhou looked at Bai Zhi with bright, expectant eyes. "Are you here to sell prescriptions again? I showed your prescription to my father yesterday, and he said it was wonderful. Where did you get that prescription?"

Bai Zhi replied, "I opened it."

"How could that be?" Doctor Zhou glanced at her with disdain. "I'm forty-two years old, and I can't even prescribe such a medicine. How old are you?"

“Dr. Zhou, you must have heard of the word ‘comprehension’.” Bai Zhi shrugged. “My family has a long tradition of medicine. I’ve been studying medicine since I was a child and I read medical books every day.”

Bai Zhi glanced at the books on his desk and chuckled, "What books are you reading?"

A little embarrassed, Dr. Zhou put away his beloved martial arts novel and asked Bai Zhi, "May I ask who your ancestors were?"

"Keep it a secret."

"Let's get back to the point." Bai Zhi put away her nonchalant attitude, looked at Doctor Zhou with a serious expression, and said, "Doctor Zhou, isn't there a notice on your door advertising a medicine-dispensing apprentice? I've come here for an interview."

"you?"

"Yes, let's follow the normal interview process. If I pass, I can start the job; if I don't, you can not hire me."

Dr. Zhou glanced at the confident and radiant girl, hesitated for a moment, and then began the normal interview process.

Identify herbs.

This was naturally no challenge for Angelica dahurica.

She could not only recognize every Chinese herb that Dr. Zhou brought out, but also explain its alternative names, growing locations, effects, and side effects in detail and clearly.

And as they talk, they unconsciously drift into more profound topics.

For example, she is now preaching while holding a medicinal herb in her hand.

"This is Eupatorium fortunei. It has a pungent taste and a neutral nature. It enters the spleen and stomach meridians and has the effects of aromatically resolving dampness, invigorating the spleen and stimulating appetite. It can treat symptoms such as summer heat and dampness, headache with chills and fever, internal dampness, epigastric fullness and lack of appetite, nausea and vomiting."

"There's also this ingredient called Asparagus..."

"That's enough, that's enough," Dr. Zhou interrupted her.

The girl's eyes lit up when she saw the herbs. If she were to go through all the different kinds of Chinese medicine in the cabinet, she would talk until dark and still not finish.

Dr. Zhou felt that Bai Zhi was more professional than him.

He immediately decided to hire her. "Miss Baizhi, my pharmacy pays eighty yuan a month, lunch is provided, I work from eight in the morning to five-thirty in the afternoon, and I get one day off a week. Is that acceptable?"

Upon hearing Doctor Zhou's words, Bai Zhi tilted her head and pondered. If they couldn't stop her from staying at the Lu family's place, would she have to stay there for the time being?

Alternatively, find another place to live.

Seeing that Bai Zhi remained silent, and knowing that she was complaining about the low salary, Dr. Zhou coughed lightly and said, "Eighty yuan is the trial period salary. If you perform well in half a month, I will raise it to one hundred yuan."

"Okay." Bai Zhi nodded immediately. "Then, will I start work tomorrow?"

"Come and report for duty at 8:00 AM sharp tomorrow morning."

It was already lunchtime. Bai Zhi came out of Ji Ren Tang, strolled to the street, ate a bowl of refreshing cold noodles, and bought some peaches from roadside vendors to take back to the Lu family.

As she entered the military compound, she saw a neighbor she had met yesterday, and Bai Zhi politely nodded and greeted them.

After she walked away, people started talking about her.

"Is this the country girl that Old Master Lu arranged for Lu Ye?"

"Yes, she's really pretty. After changing her clothes, she doesn't have any of the rustic air of a country girl. She's poised and elegant, and looks quite good."

"What's the use of being pretty? Haven't you seen that Lu Ye still hasn't come back? I heard that Old Lu and Teacher Xie are also avoiding each other. This marriage is doomed to fail."

As soon as Bai Zhi arrived at the door, she heard what sounded like guests in the living room.
