Chapter 10: Her Short-lived Fiancé
Lu Wanning took a deep breath and quickly took the man's pulse.
After letting go, he quickly took out a very exquisite small porcelain bottle from his arms, took out a pill and stuffed it into Princess Qi's mouth.
"Swallow it."
After taking the pill, Princess Qi's breathing finally calmed down a little. Even though the dim moonlight couldn't make out her complexion, Lu Wanning could guess that it must be very pale.
She soothed him, "I'm sorry, I didn't know you had a heart disease, but in that situation just now, if you didn't run, you would die."
Princess Qi shook her head, unable to speak.
Lu Wanning wet a handkerchief with river water and wiped the blood off her face, then sprinkled it with hemostatic powder.
After packing up, she asked Princess Qi, "Will your family come to see you?"
People from the Chen Mansion might come looking for her, but if they can't find her here, they will probably think she is dead.
As a doctor, she really couldn't bear to see a person with heart disease left alone in this desolate mountain.
Anyway, she had no intention of leaving. If this man's family came looking for her, it would be okay for her to stay here and wait for a while.
Otherwise, it would be dangerous to go down the mountain alone.
The tightness in her chest gradually improved, and Princess Qi was finally able to speak.
"Yes, my son will come to find you soon."
The night was quiet, and the sound of wind blowing through leaves would give people goose bumps. Princess Qi was probably a little scared, so she talked more.
"My son is getting married soon. I came out today because I heard that Baoji Temple is very effective in praying for children, so I came to pay my respects to the couple, hoping that they can have a grandson soon."
Lu Wanning curled the corners of her lips, thinking that the young couple hadn't even gotten married yet, and the mother-in-law was being a little too impatient.
The two chatted idly, but Princess Qi was so sleepy that her voice became lower and lower.
Lu Wanning didn't dare to sleep. She had heard from her father that there were wolves on Yueshi Mountain. Regardless of whether it was true or not, she didn't dare to close her eyes now.
But what you fear will come true. When Lu Wanning saw the dark green dots suddenly appear in the darkness, her scalp immediately tensed up.
She woke Princess Qi up and lowered her voice, "Can you climb a tree?"
Princess Qi nodded, "Yes!"
She was born in the countryside and did a lot of things like climbing trees and fishing when she was a child. However, these things were often laughed at by the noble ladies in the capital behind her back. Since she married Prince Qi, Princess Qi has never done such wanton things again.
"Climb up," Lu Wanning said stiffly, "the higher the better."
Only then did Princess Qi see those emerald wolf eyes.
The chest that had just eased a little suddenly sank again.
Heaven!
There were five or six of them.
A faint glow of fire could be seen in the distance, and it was unclear whether it was a deadly bandit or a savior coming to look for someone.
But at this moment, these wolves that are eyeing us with greedy eyes are the most dangerous.
Lu Wanning watched Princess Qi climb up the tree, picked up the dagger she had dropped, and stood guard under the tree. "There's a good chance that the torch over there is coming for you. Shout over there, the louder the better."
Lu Wanning seemed to be the backbone between the two of them. Princess Qi listened to whatever she said, but she was obviously more worried about Lu Wanning's safety and reached out to pull her up the tree.
But this tree is not very thick, how can it bear the weight of two people?
If she went up, the branch would break and both of them would fall to their death.
Lu Wanning retreated towards the river with a dagger in hand.
The two wolves followed her closely.
Wolves are extremely intelligent animals. They seemed to have sensed her intention to retreat into the water and immediately pounced on her.
Lu Wanning aimed the dagger in her hand at the wolf's neck and stabbed it decisively. Her calf was bitten and the pain made her sweat coldly. However, she did not loosen the dagger in her hand at all. She turned it around and cut the wolf's neck downwards.
But after killing one, there was still another. The smell of blood made the wolves even more excited, and all the wolves rushed towards her.
Lu Wanning was filled with despair, thinking that she might as well poison herself to death, which would be better than the pain of being torn apart by the wolves.
The other wolf lunged at her, its fangs aimed straight for her throat.
Lu Wanning closed her eyes, grasped the dagger and swung it forward desperately.
For a long time, the pain did not appear.
She cautiously opened one eye and saw that the wolves surrounding her had all been shot by arrows and fallen.
Every arrow hit the fatal spot. This man's archery skills are simply superb.
hero!
Lu Wanning's eyes were blurred with tears. She turned around and was about to say thank you, but she saw that the man holding the bow and arrow was exactly the same as the sickly prince who had been pressed down by her and ravaged several times.
She rubbed her eyes and saw that the man covered his lips and coughed a few times, with bright red blood flowing out from between his fingers.
Yes, it was indeed her short-lived fiancé.
After saving Lu Wanning, Qi Muchao reached out to Princess Qi in the tree, "Mother."
Lu Wanning: “…”
Chen Wenjian was really talking nonsense. She said that Prince Qi was her beloved man. Look, God was helping her.
Lu Wanning was shocked again and again, and her ability to endure was really limited. The bite wound on her leg was so painful that her eyes went black, and she passed out with her eyes rolled back.
Before she lost consciousness, she seemed to fall into a not-so-warm embrace, and a faint scent of herbs wafted through her, making her feel as reassured as when she accompanied her mother to pick herbs and lay in her arms.
…
Lu Wanning woke up in her room.
She forced herself to sit up, but the dryness in her throat made her cough twice.
The wound on his leg had been bandaged properly. Although it was still excruciatingly painful, at least he had saved his life and did not let this chance to live a second life be wasted so soon.
Aunt An heard the noise and walked in. Seeing that she had woken up and looked happy, her worry got the better of her. She walked over and flicked her head hard, "My dear, you might as well scare me to death."
God knows when the servant came back and said that Lu Wanning had met bandits, Aunt An almost fainted.
Lu Wanning laughed, "This was an accident."
It's not something that no one could have predicted.
But then again, if she hadn't gone up the mountain to pick herbs, her fate might have been no different from those servants who were hacked to death.
Aunt An folded her hands and prayed, "I think my sister and brother-in-law are blessing you in heaven. This matter may not be a disaster for you."
Touching her hair, Aunt An said softly, "Originally, Auntie was worried about you marrying into Prince Qi's mansion, but yesterday you saved Princess Qi's life. Now, you are Princess Qi's lifesaver. When you marry into Prince Qi's mansion, the people there won't treat you harshly because of your life-saving grace."
Just as she said, when she gave birth to a boy or girl for the prince, if Prince Qi really died in the future, it would not be convenient for Prince Qi's mansion to let her be buried with him.
Aunt An finally felt relieved.
"Is Princess Qi alright?"
"Nothing. Princess Qi originally wanted to take you back to Prince Qi's residence for treatment, but since you and the Crown Prince haven't married yet, it would be against the rules to do so. So, she sent you back to the Chen residence and asked Elder Liu from the Skylark Pavilion to treat you."
