Chapter 4 The New World (1/2)

early morning.

Su Qianqian opened her eyes.

It was no longer that pure white void. What came into view was a somewhat mottled ceiling and a simple ceiling light.

The air no longer smelled of disinfectant, but rather the scent of an old house mixed with dust and sunlight.

She sat up gently.

Beneath me was a slightly firm single bed, covered with faded checkered sheets.

The small room was simply furnished: a desk, a chair, a simple wardrobe, and a few cardboard boxes piled in the corner.

A small window was open, and a gentle breeze carried the faint sounds of the street below, along with the fresh scent of a few potted green plants on the windowsill.

She instinctively raised her hand and covered her left breast.

There was no pain, no suffocating feeling.

Only a steady, strong heartbeat, one after another, struck her palm.

Alive.

Really alive!

Overwhelmed with joy, she was instantly overwhelmed.

Su Qianqian threw off the thin blanket and practically lunged to the window.

It's a summer afternoon outside the window.

The golden sunlight streamed into the alleyways of the old town, green vines climbed the mottled walls, and the sounds of breakfast vendors calling out their wares, electric scooter horns blaring, and the aroma of food wafting from the neighbors' homes filled the air...

The scenes, which were as ordinary as could be, were vivid and precious to her than she had ever seen before.

She took a deep breath; even the air tasted sweet!

"Wow..." she couldn't help but let out a small exclamation, her moist almond eyes shining brightly, as if filled with crushed starlight.

She stretched out her delicate pink fingertips and carefully touched the thick leaves of the potted green ivy on the windowsill. The real touch made her laugh softly, her eyes crinkling with a pure and contented smile.

[Host! Host! You're finally awake!] A slightly childish yet urgent voice rang in her mind; it was the system.

It can finally stop imitating the serious attitude of its predecessors, boohoo.

But Su Qianqian was still immersed in novelty and joy and had no time to pay attention to it.

Like a bird just released from its cage, she circled around the small rented room, touching the rough desk surface, and curiously opened the wardrobe, where a few simple white shirts and jeans hung.

Hey! Qianqian! Listen to me!

The system's voice rose, "I know you're happy, but business comes first, listen carefully!"

"Okay, go ahead."

Su Qianqian answered absentmindedly, her gaze then drawn to a cheap landscape painting on the wall.

[This is the old town of City S in a parallel world. The body you are currently using is also named Su Qianqian, and you are eighteen years old.]

The perception of this small world will automatically rationalize your existence; everyone will assume that you have always looked the way you do now.

[The original owner of this body just got the job as Lin Shu's assistant and will start work tomorrow.]

The system's tone turned serious: "But Lin Shu, the original female lead, is incredibly jealous. You're still nominally her assistant, hanging around under her nose with that face… it's too dangerous!"

You need to learn to conceal your true feelings, understand? Be humble and subservient, play dumb, and never stand out too much in front of her.
