Chapter 160 The Reasons for Going Abroad
Xue Ling kept crying without saying a word, and it was unclear whether she had listened to anything.
Yang Han sighed and said, "You'd better go down now, or I'll call your brother."
Xue Ling remained silent, neither speaking nor leaving her seat.
Yang Han was losing patience and took out his phone to call Qin Ce.
Xue Ling suddenly moved; she opened the car door and got out by herself.
Seeing this, Yang Han finally breathed a sigh of relief; this whole thing had been quite a commotion.
As soon as Xue Ling got out of the car, he stepped on the gas and sped away as if a ghost was chasing him, wishing he could grow wings and fly out of the neighborhood!
Xue Ling wiped away her tears, turned around, and found Qin Ce and Qiao Xing standing behind her.
She lowered her head guiltily and turned to leave.
"Stop." Qin Ce suddenly called out to her.
Xue Ling paused, then stood silently in place.
Qin Ce walked up to her, stared at her reddened eyes, and remained silent for a moment before saying, "Your sister-in-law wants to take you shopping. Go with her."
Xue Ling paused for a moment, then looked up at Qin Ce.
Qin Ce showed no expression and didn't say anything to her. Xue Ling was slightly touched and nodded in agreement.
Qiao Xing gave Qin Ce a reassuring look, then took Xue Ling's arm and walked out.
Now she finally understood what was going on: this young girl was experiencing her first love and had taken a liking to Yang Han.
Qiao Xing didn't hear what they said in the car, but seeing Xue Ling getting out of the car crying, he could basically guess what it was.
No wonder Joey warned her at the dinner table earlier. Joey knew about it too, didn't he?
Looking at Xue Ling's red and swollen eyes, she didn't know what to say for a moment, so she could only walk with her on the road.
The sun was out a bit today, perfect for a walk.
Xueling suddenly spoke up, saying, "Sister-in-law, am I a very bad person?"
Qiao Xing paused, looking at her in surprise, "Why would you say that?"
Xue Ling said to herself, "I knew him first."
Qiao Xing opened his mouth, his expression complicated, and said, "Xue Ling, feelings... don't distinguish between first come, first served."
"I know, if I were the same age as him, wouldn't he marry me?"
Qiao Xing couldn't answer this. She was silent for a while before saying, "Do you believe in fate?"
Xue Ling grew up in China, so she should be able to understand these words.
"have no idea."
"I once saw a quote online that said that a person's life script is already set before they are born. You've already read it before you came into this world, so what you missed is for the sake of meeting something better in the future. So there are definitely people and things worth waiting for you in the future."
Xue Ling's eyes welled up with tears again. She had fair skin, so even a slight redness in her eyes was very noticeable.
"I don't believe in these things. People should take their own destiny into their own hands!"
Qiao Xing's heart skipped a beat. Did this mean she still wasn't planning to give up?
"Xue Ling, what...do you like about him?"
Xue Ling bit her lip, stared down at her toes, and said in a muffled voice, "When we were little, he came to our house every day."
“When I was very young, my brother didn’t like to talk to me. He was the one who carried me out to play every day and bought me lots of things.”
Yang Han's family is from Yucheng. She was a boarding student in Xiacheng, but later she simply moved in with Qin Ce.
Sometimes when her parents went out, they would ask Qin Ce to take care of her, and Qin Ce would simply leave her with Yang Han.
He picked her up from school, he helped her lose her baby teeth, he secretly took her out for delicious food, and he took her to the amusement park.
Later, when she went to school, he was the one who tutored Xue Ling.
Yang Han is a kind-hearted person, and since Xue Ling listens to him, Qiao Yi simply let Yang Han tutor her with all her homework.
Sometimes Xue Ling would imitate her parents and kiss Yang Han's face. Because of the large age gap between them, no one paid much attention to it.
Yang Han naturally couldn't take it to heart. He was too happy to be kissed by such a tiny little girl, so why would he think so much?
Later, Xue Ling asked Yang Han what kind of wife he liked. Yang Han said he didn't want a wife, as he was more comfortable being alone.
Xue Ling said that when she grew up, she would let Yang Han marry her.
Yang Han said back then: "Little brat, you should grow up first."
Xue Ling took those words to heart.
What happened next was that Joey saw her diary, which was full of her memories with Yang Han, and there were also many photos of the two of them tucked inside.
They finally realized something was wrong, and the two of them even abandoned their work and moved overnight, moving to a place far away, all the way to the other side of the sea.
As soon as they moved in, Xue Ling caused a huge uproar, leaving the whole family worried sick.
In the end, there was nothing I could do but comfort her and say that when she grows up and becomes outstanding, she will be allowed to go back to Yang Han.
“They all think I’m too young and that they’ll forget about me as time goes by and I grow up.”
"Actually, I didn't forget. I just didn't want my parents to worry about me, so I hid the notebook."
Qiao Xing was somewhat shocked after hearing her words.
Even just now, she thought that Xue Ling was too young to distinguish between love and friendship.
Now, Qiao Xing is starting to waver.
She was even more confused about whether Xue Ling's feelings for Yang Han were love or just a long-standing obsession.
People tend to want what they can't have.
Over time, you might not even be able to tell what you want anymore.
Is it the resentment of waiting for so many years, the obsession of being constantly hindered, or the desire to prove something?
It turns out that their family went abroad because of this.
Xue Ling turned her head and looked intently at Qiao Xing, "Sister-in-law, do you still think that I was just young and immature?"
Qiao Xing shook her head. "I don't think so. On the contrary, I think you are much more mature than your peers."
"Yes, they all think I'm just a child and don't know any better."
Qiao Xing held her hand and said earnestly, "Xueling, you are very sensible. I believe you are an adult now, so a mature adult must learn to control their emotions and feelings."
"A mature adult must learn to consider whether their words and actions will cause trouble or harm to others. True growth is actually about self-control."
"There are many things in this world that we cannot have. The older we get, the more choices we have to make. All we can do is restrain ourselves and not do things that go against our conscience."
"Do the math. We only live for a little over 20,000 days in this world. If we keep fixating on things that don't belong to us, we'll miss out on even more. Why not make ourselves happier?"
Xue Ling listened to her words in silence.
Qiao Xing looked at her and said softly, "You don't want to be old and frail in the future, and when you look back on your life, it all seems like nothing but unfulfilled desires and sadness, do you?"
Xue Ling burst into tears. She looked at Qiao Xing with difficulty, and after several struggles, she managed to squeeze out a few words.
"But I still can't let go."
